Just wanted you guys to know I listed a few stars on ebay. I listed a Jackson IA, Clemente, Carew, and Garvey. Same as before, if any board member wins my auctions insured shipping is on me.

    Thanks--Jason

The tortoise (me) has finally caught up to the hare! LOL #17 baby!

I picked up a couple of commons and a T. Munson along with a L.Brock! Great deals on both, by the way.

For now, the score is 3.98 me and 3.94 Dave! Sorry...have to talk some smack because I'm sure it's short lived. The good thing is that we are both about to pass the Constantino set (3.99) and start to crack the top 15!

Little quiet over the last couple of days here on the thread. Oh well, picked up another couple of commons last night including a HI#. Almost 57% set!

And....I'm waiting for a little shipment from Frank which should push me up a notch or two as well! image

Dave...why you! LOL...I knew it'd be sooner or later....great job!

I'll try and work my way back up to your 'level'. As soon as I receive the group of cards from Frank, I should be in at least 17th place. We'll see.

I am a huge Indians fan, grew up in Cleveland, Joe's rookie was 1981 Topps, I remember pulling it out of packs as a kid and yelling to him in left field from the sky box i used to have my birthday parties in...him and Miguel Dilone. Those were the days...

Congrats on a great '72 set. I'm one of the 'young guns' to the set, but already climbing the list with a little more than 56% of the set at this point in a little less than 2 months.

Good luck with those last cards. By the way, I LOVE that Frank Robby rookie!

    Hey Mr Olander,

It is nice to see you posting in our new 72 Topps thread. Your set (and that of Frank Bakka's) are the truly impressive sets and that of which we all inspire to be.

So what can you tell us of resubmissions and skewed pop reports?

If, indeed I were to ever come into possesion of one the cards you need in PSA9, I would be more then happy to sell it to you. image

I will have to give it some thought about which card is my favorite.

I always found the Clemente IA funny....it appears as if he has just taken a called third strike. ( or been the victum of a brush-back pitch)

For some strange reason, that Willie McCovey was just one growing up that I really liked. I think it was because it was used in price guides as the 'show' card of the set at the top of the checklist a few times and it just stuck in my head. But, that's one that I like. I'm still debating what my favorite card is though. I love those tri-rookie cards though. Always have and always will.

By the way, I am now in sole possession of 17th place and within .04 of Dan Markel's set at #16. So, when Frank's former cards arrive, I should move past him easily and get back on Dave's tail!

I've always like the Pete Rose #559 and the Frank Robinson Traded #654 - not sure why.

And the whole 5th and 6th series seems to have a much brighter or "sunnier" look to them than the first 4 series.

Funny as it sounds - I do't believe that its too bad a price.

Although cello's can be so tightly packed sometimes that the corners take more of a hit than in wax. But rack packs were always my favorite.

Nice jump Arny! You guys have a pretty clear path to #12 - but catching lostdart is going to be a much tougher jump. With him actively working on his set and there already being a huge chasm between #12 and #11, you better figure on looking at progress on Set Rating rather than position for a while.

I have to keep my set in a spreasheet in order to measure progress. Each lower series upgrade from PSA 9 to PSA 10 raises the Set rating .0007.

    Arny,

No ...there was nothing for me to bid on last night. I will only bid on 9's up to about $17. ( although i do make exceptions) I have bid on a couple of '10s" just for chits and giggles, never expecting to win one. The two I have in my set were bought after too many adult beverages.

Congrats on moving up the registry ladder. I thought I had moved up the ladder fairly rapidly but you have out performed me.......Of course the bad news is that you are about to hit the wall..........once you pass the present #12 on the list ....it is a long and expensive move up to the next spot as i am finding out.............................I am still about 60 cards behind joemaggio and I have been "chasing" him for almost two months
.....Consider this: in the last nine days I have purchased only 4 new cards on ebay. ( I did buy a 13 card lot off-ebay though)

I'm expecting to have a long haul to the top. But, with Dave around, it gives me someone to keep competing with and challenge myself. The problem is when/if others get involved (such as myself and Dave) and it slows the process for others like Jami. It also generates some good interest and excitement about the set, so the good with the bad.

This competition has been fun, but this has never been my highest priority set. Because of the little competition with Arny I have almost completely abandoned my other projects. I wish another horse would emerge in this race to buy me out. My set is in great shape for a run because I have a lot of the low pops and I most often pass on the high ones. Even with the low pops, my average price paid is very good so I could make someone a very fair deal.

Arny, do you have any doubles yet? I have a bunch of extra low pops and a few stars that you need. I know you won't buy them from me for my prices but maybe we can make a trade?

Anyone have any 8s available off of ebay? If I am staying in this race I might as well keep working on completing my set.

Well there were four cards up tonight that I needed.......I won none of them. I realy wanted the Archie Reynolds card....(the last card i need for the California Angels team set)...........so i made a stupidly high bid..........but NOOOOOO, Mr Barcus had already made an even higher and in my opinion over inflated bid!!!!.......

Jami, good call on being patient. I've been doing very well and have ended up saving A LOT of money by setting spend limits and seeing those cards coming back around a second or third time and getting a great deal on them. I think that with the August special, a few more 72 commons will make their way out into the market and will make it just a little easier for us to reach 100%.

Oh, and I might be making a little jump in the ranks soon! image

The Reynolds card is a high number and is among the 100 toughest from the set to find in PSA 8 or better. I only paid $22 for it. I am willing to pay premium prices to finish off the 100 toughest cards. At the same time I pay really low prices for the easy ones.

I just got my submission results for 171 1972 Topps I sent in from a set I purchased. Overall, mostly 8s. I was definately expecting more 9s and even some 10s.

On the bright side, The Nolan Ryan is a PSA 9 and the Aaron and Clemente are boths 8s. Also, there are some really low pop 8s too. Could have been better could have been worse....

Picked up a Joe Morgan Traded card tonight. I really like that card.

At any rate, that brings me to within .01 of Dave! image 4.54 to 4.55...Woo hoo!

Hopefully Dave doesn't have any more of those big 'lots' of cards coming his way. I've got one pretty good sized one that should arrive approximately Thursday. So, we'll see how that moves my rating. image
