    Great coins everybody!

@joeykoins: thanks for posting! I’m not sure about the crackout - do you intend to flip it? First of all, I like the rev, even though the pic is small. I’m sure a lot of the noise on the obv are slab hits, but what about the scratch in front of the ear to the jawline? If that’s on the coin, I’m afraid it will come back as “details”. JMO….

Just picked this up from Chicago's ANA.
    Larry Briggs, SEGS
    1888/88 VF RPD

Also has slight rotation and doubling on the reverse in the leaves! On the left. Plus, mine has the protruding 1, sticking out of the Pearl.

Sorry, bad photos. Better Pics coming!

I think the seller may have tried CAC; waiting to hear back from him. But Rick? Definitely yes; he’s seen it in hand & will give it the EEPS! Thanks for the nice comment too!
    Ken
Update: 8/19: the seller did not try CAC; felt there was too much toning/color for them to bean it. I tend to agree with that assessment, but I’m happy with the EEPS for this one.

You’d lose your bet, lol. I don’t know. But if you call them up, chances are you’ll get an accurate answer if you describe your question clearly, with an example.

OK Steve - I have an answer. They don’t. But, they do have an arrangement with EERC for his submissions. He tells them ahead of time what variety the coin is & they include it on the label.

    Going CACG…..

With a few more obscure, non FS varieties. Here’s the first one, including a description:

I like their strict grading standards - value added!

That’s a first for me! I haven’t seen an IHC in the CACG holder with the eagle eye sticker, that is super cool!

I value the Eagle Eye sticker highly!

@redraider: congratulations Jonathan - that’s quite a lineup! Curious question: did they put the planchet metrics on the slab?
    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Ken! The Newman specimen has the metrics on the slab. Interestingly, the original envelope that came with the Newman Specimen indicates he thought this coin was pure Nickel. I am guessing an XRF determined otherwise. I work for a company that makes XRF guns, I need to inquire about seeing what kind of discount I can get!

I need an 1857 FEC and 1858 LL to complete the whole run of Copper Nickel proofs. Might be a ways off from getting those.

I am now just down to 1860 to complete a Copper-Nickel Indian Cent proof collection from 1858-1866!

Here is the 1865 (Plain 5), recently acquired. 77%CU 33%NI, giving it more of a white look. Ex Newman.

    The 1858, 1865 "Plain 5", 1865 "Fancy 5" and 1866 are patterns.
    Grades are as follows:
    1858: PR64
    1859: PR64
    1860:
    1861: PR65
    1862: PR65CAM
    1863: PR64CAM
    1864: PF64CAM
1865 Fancy 5: MS65 (non-proof graded, but appears proof like)
    1865 Plain 5: PF65
    1866: PR64

    @redraider
You had me going there, Copper Nickel 1865,1866???............
Then I saw your note saying that they were patterns.........whoa, I thought O was losing it
Great set , keep it going

If the slab says 77% Cu 33% Ni then it is wrong.

This thread gets buried so quickly I’m “forced” to post & bring it back to page 1:

The 1882 S-2 broken 2 is one of my fave IHC varieties, as it’s one that’s naked eye visible. Visually appealing, it’s also a tough 3* variety as shown in the description included.
