it's going to be a beautiful day here in the Valley, but it's just getting light and trying to break through the morning cold outside, and I am enjoying coffee with one of my new girlfriends.
I found out a lot about where she's been over the last 40 years last night, which was quite interesting. She still has an open certification number from her rattler days.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
Happy Saturday!
Not moving around much today. Started feeling sick when I woke up yesterday. Feel like I got hit by a truck today. This weeks new purchase is good medicine though.
.
I've got a couple of very sweet additions today. First is a 1915-s MS-65 CAC Barber .50c Ex. Eliasberg coin, and the next is a gorgeous new 1868 Dollar PF-66 CAC. Now that's a way to start the weekend! Happy Sat gents.
Actually, here's an almost newp..
First and only attempted purchase from (large precious metals exchange), I fell victim to the old stock photo switcheroo.
The flat white (coffee joke😄) AG slick 1809 that I received instead was hardly worth the shipping and handling..
Wish this one had actually arrived..

Man, that sucks! yes, that's the coin you wanted and thought you were getting. That particular company is very deceptive in that way, knowing which coin images to use to get someone to bite, and then sending something 'similar". They have no business selling coins that way on eBay and elsewhere. They really should get penalized somehow.

I've seen them list a mislabeled coin (1855/54 50C listed as an 1855) and then charge the overdate price. What assurances does the buyer have if the auctions and coins are labeled improperly that they won't get the ol' switcheroo (send the buyer a normal date rather than the 55/54 shown mislabeled in the auction and priced as a 55/54). I notified a certain precious metals company of this labeling problem and they didn't seem to care.
Nothing new this week, with the 15/2 having taking a big hit to what wasn't left in the war chest ... but she's still tickling my fancy, so there is that!
Coffee is good. All the coins are good.
Here's a simple one in comparison. And yet, like all the others, she always draws a smile.
Later, after offering $25, "Don't disgrace me with that $25 offer! Buy me now! My rim bumps are rim-bump perfection if there ever was a perfect rim bump!"
Haven't shared this coin much in a long time, but still one of my absolute favorites.
1814 O-107a - PCGS AU58cac Condition Census (3rd finest known, highest with CAC)
A soft platinum-golden-grey patina with patches of russet and aqua-blue graces full cartwheel luster and mark-free surfaces. Affectionately called the "Mouse on Nose" for it's unusual die chip on Liberty's nose. This is the same die pairing that struck the famous 1814 Platinum Half Dollars (Judd-44), and as a later die state from that striking, is also proof that the Judd-44's were struck in 1814 at the Mint, not pieces de caprice, struck elsewhere (or later) from discarded dies.

The day you made the winning bid on that is the the day you met @habaraca and I
I asked the forum who would buy a cent counterstamped with one’s own initials. It was $48.00 and shipping. I put it on watch hoping that I would get an offer; nope.

Definitely a bit steep for a renegade, but could be one of those things that are just rare enough on a personal level to get anyway..😀

Newp 20-105. Tough to find 20s with eye appeal. Can’t put this one down today.

This fine Lady showed up last night (won at GC on Sunday - very fast service ).
Bought strictly off the GreatPhoto. I see it as an 1834-107 (P55CAC).

Okay, I give up. What is that stuff, dried coffee?

I dug this out of the ground in a park. While perhaps the least valuable coin I own, it’s on my desk right now and I appreciate it!

Inspecting "the Maginot Line" aka low mintage Philly halves from 1879 to 1890.
1879 - I was undecided about this one until @LeeroyBrown decided for me.
1880 VF30
1881 - F12 and VG10 (CAC)
1882 - VF25
1883 - VF25
1884 - VF35
1885 VF details - cleaned
1886 - ANACS VF35 - needs to be regraded to VF30, IMO.
1887 - NGC VG10 (CAC)
1888 - PR61
1889 - VF25
1890 - My notes say, "PCGS EF40 (82425468), choice coin!!" - no photo but it's a chocolate brown EF40 and a favorite.
Still need to acquire a 79 and business strike 88, replace the 85, cross-over the 86 and 87, and get Trueviews of the 90.
Few of those could use a "java dip"
Another “red eye” Sat AM. I neglected to post this one last week with my other “last” Barbers. My bad!

Happy Saturday Morning! I bought this from a board member a few years ago.

I'll post my 14-107a as well!
It's a great die pair, this one is also currently my best example of crusty gray dirt patina...🤗
