The sad part for me that I think about when seeing this...is that people are paying a premium for an item from the US Mint and I wonder about the Mint's Quality Control when you see high quality pictures of their coins. The amount of imperfections, debris, and other flaws in something that is supposed to be "Proof Quality" is rather sad to this uneducated newbie in the world of coins.
Back in the heyday of baseball card collecting, could you imagine if a card company put out "Proof" cards and went to the effort to protect that card straight after manufacturing and then was graded at less than proof (perfect IMO)??
Maybe the US Mint is not worthy of the premium ($$$ above spot price) that they put on their "Proof" gold coins!

That is very interesting, but I’m not so sure that the game is over on these. See recent EBay sales below. I think Pinehurst caters to the graded coin crowd, and they know that 69s are not what people want. I do wonder why they’re not cracking these out and making money on EBay, though.

Raw coins from mint are considered better than 69.
And, dealers make money on the 70s, a little loss on the 69s is nothing.

All, I tried to edit my incorrect post above that referenced MS Pinehurst pricing, when I discussed proofs. The proofs are still doing OK and are still selling well in 70 for sure.
Sorry for the confusion. FYI. I did get 3 70-s and 1 69 of the ones I needed from my 4-piece 2021 set submission. I did pay a very good flip price to then obtain the half ounce in 70, and my 69 will be for sale this weekend. Good luck to all.
I now have my complete gold eagle type 1 set at least in 69. Some 70's are just too high of a purchase price for me.
Michael Reagan attributed coins have a ~26% rate of 69's, compared to ~22% for the others.
Of note, the Michael Reagan $25 and $5 AGE's are 29% 69's.
We now have a 68 $5 AGE to go along with the $10 AGE.....what a dubious honor.
Please feel free to make your observations.

Officially at approximately 200PM ET the United States Mint will post these prices:

1/2 oz. $1,205.00
1/4 oz. $615.00
1/10 oz. $260.00
4- coin set $4,410.00
Interestingly, on the Mint's website (even though they don't have any for sale), the price of all of these coins has gone up - significantly IMO - especially when compared to the price of gold over the same period of time;

1/2 oz. $1,205 -----> $1,375 ---->13.1783% difference
1/4 oz. $615 -----> $715 ----> 5.7554% difference
1/10 oz. $260 -----> $315 ----> 19.1304% difference

Normally the United States Mint can adjust Gold pricing each Wednesday, however, occasionally the Mint changes the Entire Grid Gold pricing. On May 10th, 2021, the United States Mint changed the Grid Gold pricing for 13 Gold items. The following are the 13 items that the Mint changed the Grid Gold pricing (completely separate from weekly price adjustments):
To be posted May 10, 2021 based on U.S. Mint Grid pricing $1,700.00-$1749.99:
American Eagle Gold Proof 1 oz. coin +$225.00 ($2600.00) +9.5%
American Eagle Gold Proof 1/2 oz. coin +$120.00 ($1325.00) +10.0%
American Eagle Gold Proof 1/4 oz. coin +$75.00 ($690.00) +12.2%
American Eagle Gold Proof 1/10 oz. coin +$45.00 ($305.00) +17.3%
American Eagle 4 coin Gold Proof set +$460.00 ($4870.00) +10.4%

American Buffalo Gold 24K Gold Proof +$225.00 ($2640.00) +9.3%
American Liberty 24K Gold 1 oz. coin +$225.00 ($2665.00) +9.2%
American Liberty 24K Gold 1/10 oz. coin +$40.00 ($330.00) +13.8%
First Spouse Gold Proof coin +$120.00 ($1355.00) +9.7%
First Spouse Gold Uncirculated coin +$120.00 (1335.00) +9.9%
Mayflower Voyager Two-coin Gold Proof Set +$180.00 ($1580.00) +12.9%
Mayflower Gold Reverse Proof coin +$75.00 ($740.00) +11.3%
The Normal weekly Gold pricing moved Gold prices Up two levels After I posted this...
...Thus the previous American Eagle Gold 1 oz. proof moved from $2600.00 to $2700.00, and all the other 12 items moved up accordingly.
For some reason the Mint chose Not to raise Grid Gold pricing for the commemorative coins...
Officially at approximately 200PM ET the United States Mint will post these prices:

1/2 oz. $1,205.00

Price of Gold Per Oz:
Does the Mint's "re-pricing" of their coins ever seem to affect the secondary market pricing for coins?
...especially when they no longer even have them in stock?
Now, I know that the price paid for a coin(s) on the secondary market is based upon the agreed-upon sales price, that day, between a buyer and seller but I'm really curious if the Mint's change in price has had any historic effects on the secondary market prices?
Somehow, I don't think it's gonna sell anywhere near that $4,300 price....it's got a ways to go...and I believe it will easily top $5k & beyond once it's all said and done!
Edited:
Originally said that I could not find a great deal of press elsewhere about the price increases.
I was wrong.
A little more searching, and I found this.
@HoneyMarket said:
...also, does this price increase percentage match other typical US Mint increase percentages in the price?
For example, in this case, the 1/10 oz has increased in price 19% in just over 60 days.
Is a 19% increase an outlier or that's just par for the course and mint pricing?
Changing the Grid Gold doesn’t happen very often. That’s where the bulk of the 19% increase comes from. A $10 move in the 1/10 oz. would be exceptional because that would be a $100 Gold price movement…

5/19/2021 - $1,864 = 7.63% difference
5/26/2021 - $1,896 = 9.33% difference
The price increase gives me more comfort with my proof fractional’s.
If the price of gold stays up then yes I would assume it is going to discourage buyers depending on the minted number. This is certainly been the case with palladium (I know, different animal).
I am pretty excited for the new design, though. So we will see.

So, even if the price of gold fell drastically, the grid price on these would not change?

The Normal weekly Gold pricing moved Gold prices Up two levels After I posted this...
...Thus the previous American Eagle Gold 1 oz. proof moved from $2600.00 to $2700.00, and all the other 12 items moved up accordingly.
For some reason the Mint chose Not to raise Grid Gold pricing for the commemorative coins...

Interestingly, on the Mint's website (even though they don't have any for sale), the price of all of these coins has gone up - significantly IMO - especially when compared to the price of gold over the same period of time;
1 oz. $2,375 -----> $2,700 ----> 12.8079% difference
1/2 oz. $1,205 -----> $1,375 ---->13.1783% difference
1/4 oz. $615 -----> $715 ----> 5.7554% difference
1/10 oz. $260 -----> $315 ----> 19.1304% difference
4- coin set $4,410 -----> $5,055 ----> 13.6292% difference
Price of Gold Per Oz:
3/10/2021 - $1,727
5/19/2021 - $1,864 = 7.63019% difference
Thanks for the update.
Didn't you mean PCGS?
Does the Mint's "re-pricing" of their coins ever seem to affect the secondary market pricing for coins?
...especially when they no longer even have them in stock?
Now, I know that the price paid for a coin(s) on the secondary market is based upon the agreed-upon sales price, that day, between a buyer and seller but I'm really curious if the Mint's change in price has had any historic effects on the secondary market prices?

...also, does this price increase percentage match other typical US Mint increase percentages in the price?
For example, in this case, the 1/10 oz has increased in price 19% in just over 60 days.
Is a 19% increase an outlier or that's just par for the course and mint pricing?

As Goldbully points out, "what I meant to say" was PCGS set (grade 70) at GC is listed at https://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/997928/2021-W-5-10-25-and-50-Gold-American-Eagle-Type-1-Set-First-Strike-PCGS-Proof-70-DCAM-4-Coins , but now it is up to $4,300, which substantially below the Mint's price for a raw set, if it were available for purchase.
Somehow, I don't think it's gonna sell anywhere near that $4,300 price....it's got a ways to go...and I believe it will easily top $5k & beyond once it's all said and done!

I do not recall the mint ever changing their pricing grid mid-year in the era of grids.
The announcement in the Federal Register ...

Originally said that I could not find a great deal of press elsewhere about the price increases.
I was wrong.
A little more searching, and I found this.
They changed the Grid Gold pricing mid year 2020…
ah. I wasn't buying then.
Changing the Grid Gold doesn’t happen very often. That’s where the bulk of the 19% increase comes from. A $10 move in the 1/10 oz. would be exceptional because that would be a $100 Gold price movement…
Another price increase - of course, this is a price increase on no availability...but if there was availability...it's a significant price increase nonetheless.
1 oz. $2,375 -----> $2,750 ----> 14.63% difference
1/2 oz. $1,205 -----> $1,400 ---->14.97% difference
1/4 oz. $615 -----> $727.50 ----> 16.76% difference
1/10 oz. $260 -----> $320 ----> 20.69% difference
4- coin set $4,410 -----> $5,147.50 ----> 15.42% difference
Price of Gold Per Oz:
3/10/2021 - $1,727
5/19/2021 - $1,864 = 7.63% difference
5/26/2021 - $1,896 = 9.33% difference

will this discourage type 2 collectors?
The price increase gives me more comfort with my proof fractional’s.
If the price of gold stays up then yes I would assume it is going to discourage buyers depending on the minted number. This is certainly been the case with palladium (I know, different animal).
I am pretty excited for the new design, though. So we will see.
I just hope this is not a "because we can" price increase
Today’s price change is just the normal weekly price adjustment. The same weekly price adjustment formula the Mint has employed for years …
Nothing to get excited about…
I believe it's exactly... "because we can", with the added phrase... "whatcha gonna do about it"

A Gold Grid price change is one thing.
A weekly price adjustment is something else.
A Gold Grid price change is permanently Upwards.
A weekly price adjustment can be Up or Down…
So, even if the price of gold fell drastically, the grid price on these would not change?
