I also recently picked up this monster. Felt like now was a good time to buy one as I noticed that prices were soaring as Spring Training was under way. They softened up a little once baseball and all other sports were postponed and so I had the opportunity to get one and so I did.
Purchased this beauty for a great discounted price at 4 sharp corners on 4/7. It took an ungodly long delivery time to get it today. But, worth the wait!
Here is my latest pack purchase. A 1962 Topps Baseball 5-cent wax pack 3rd Series (Mickey Mantle Series)!
I plan to crossover to PSA...hopefully as an 8 w/Series #3 designation. I did reach out before buying to Tim who said the pack looked good from the pics, to Steve at BBCE who said he would have to have it in hand to check roller marks, and to a rep at PSA who said it appeared likely (99.8%) that the back card is #210 Roy Face and hence a 3rd series pack (Mickey Mantle Series).
But it will be a long process to switch over to PSA and still risky in that BBCE has to give its blessing and that
the gum does not rip the wrapper...so considering the turnaround time. The leaves might be changing color or snow might be falling again in the Ohio Valley before I have it back from PSA. That is okay as long as I have the desired result and it arrives safely unripped.

Beautiful 53 Mantle. I realized that although I have about 10-15 raw versions of this card, I figured I should go ahead and pick up a graded version.
Will always be my favorite card. Congrats on the addition.
I will eventually give it some better centering, smooth edges, sharp corners and even borders as it is most certainly hand cut, it isn’t gradable and it will look so much better as a result.
Edited to add:
Yeah, I’ve got nothing better to do...
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?
I haven’t bought a card in 6 weeks. I am in a Covid hotspot (relatively speaking) and this situation has required a lot of adjustments. But I’m not letting this thing control my life so I’m back with a few pickups....
Put this Babe Ruth/Lou Gehrig display together as a fun project while indoors so much the past several weeks.
The ball was inscribed by Babe Ruth with the date and location he and Lou Gehrig signed it, namely October 21 1928, when they made a barnstorming appearance at Star Park in Syracuse, NY.
I long wanted a ball that could be traced to a specific date, if it was possible, so finding one was a thrill; that was my priority far above things like auto grade or ball condition, as I am wary of fakes. I was able to do some research and order a poster-sized blow-up of the local newspaper that covered the game and date, corroborating the Star Park location. Turns out Babe ruth ate like seventeen hot dogs at a local bar after the game, when he went out with the players and fans. What a halcyon era lost to time, when the players and fans could interact that closely!

What a great display with a great story to go with it. Congrats as that is a monster of a pickup.

First, a birthday gift from my sons for my Yaz master set. Surprisingly tough to find in high grade.
Then I also picked up the 1974 Linnett Portraits Patriots team set. I didn't scan all 9, just my 4 favorites. The Cunningham is a RC.
Dan, what a great addition!! Coming from your sons on top of it. Congrats. Not easy finding those in high grade. I am still searching for one for my Bench collection.
And another one off my baseball greats list. Guys, my wife is going to kill me. But this was the right price. I normally like my cards centered better, but I don't mind it as bad on this one. Everything else about it looks great.
Got bored enough that I grabbed this one likely with intention of collecting the whole set. One of my childhood favorites. Love watching highlights of him striding downfield.

I was the one who had this autographed and graded, if you wanted to know the history of it. It's always cool to see where things end up. I actually had a 1961 Auto HOF set going for awhile. I sold most of it off, still have the Mantle and Maris, that I don't think I'll ever part with.

Hello Justin. That is pretty cool information. I am currently working on the 61 auto set and registering them in PSA. I started with Hall of famers but now I pick up any that I can at a reasonable price. I would love to purchase the Mantle or Maris. If you ever decide to part with them let me know. Phil
These have come in over the last few days. A rookie HOF, an all timer and the greatest trio of pitchers a team has ever had. I believe I picked up the basic Topps run for these three.

A great looking Kaline rookie. One of the all-time Tiger greats. Congrats. Some serious pitching Dimes you landed.
this is more of a WTF moment than an acquisition. i managed to get out of town and visit my folks this past weekend, and while there i stumbled across an item that was collecting dust in a drawer. apparently Jack & Arnie went H2H decades ago in West Texas (my dad was there), and this ribbon serves as a relic from when they got it on. my first thought was, "hey this is pretty cool." then i flipped it over. "ok it's a little cooler now." nothing like a mid-60s Nicklaus graph being totally neglected for Lord knows how long. too bad the coolness factor wasn't ratcheted up even more with a King sig.
More focused than usual lately - these are all towards my '61 HOF set - 41 down, 39 to go. With the MVPs, All-Stars, World Series, Baseball Thrills and Leaders this set might have the most HOFer cards of any vintage Topps set. Nice to get over the half way point.

One I’ve always wanted, but just never made it back into my collection. Almost 25 years later, it’s back.
