Early ones, that is. I picked up another nice one I need: a 1920-S PCGS MS64+. Tally is now 18/20; still need the 20-D (one of Harlan Berk’s guys told me that’s very tough) + the vaunted 21-S. That one will have to wait while I reload.
This one’s a sweetheart & checks all the boxes. In addition it’s just about all white & green CAC’d.
New Buy!
For many reasons.
1. Love that appearance of that 1944!
2. Only $20! Esp what silver goes for now. ($1.65+ × 11= $18+)
3. Some others look toned
4. Possible varieties
5. Maybe, some Laminations?
6. I might replace the coins with some higher grades?
and finally,
Just a cool historical set!
The '44 almost has that "woodie" appearance.

I wonder why they called it an obverse misaligned die, when it appears to be fully off center?
Only one side of the coin, in this case the obverse, is off center. The reverse is normal. If it was an off center strike both sides of the coin would be equally off.
Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

The reverse looks off center as well. That's why I said anything.

My first ever draped bust coin!
This is really the first draped bust coin I’ve ever examined in hand and I have to say I LOVE the design.
It is graded VF20 by NGC.
The auction house had it listed as a 1806/5 but comparing to all the photos PCGS has available the 6 on my coin is different. The 6 on my coin is more pointed than all the confirmed examples I’ve looked at online.
Regardless if it is or isn’t, I’m still very happy to own it.
On a roll, picked up another one Sunday night for my set
I put in pics from GC and PCGS, I'm guessing that the PCGS pics were taken when Phil was still around
One of several recent ones. Yes, it is holed and low grade. But it is extraordinarily rare. 1798 BB-102 (B-20), already a nice find. Try to find one without the little football break above the 79 of the date and reverse cud at 6:00 that appears like a rim bruise. This is the only one I have found or even seen in this early state. No football break and no cud. The weak crack from the 7 is present, where the little break later forms. Not even a hint of the cud. The crack through the I of AMERICA has begun, something many have thought occurred after the cud. It actually can be seen on later strikes of knob 9 BB-95, the prior use of the reverse die. The obverse was shared with BB-103 (prohibitively rare in all grades and always in low grade) and BB-107 (scarce). The state of this obverse clearly suggests this was the first use of that die.
Showed this in another thread, but for those who haven’t seen it, I’ll post it here. This is actually in a 1st gen. hard plastic enclosed and sealed ANA holder. Unusual to still house a Double Eagle.

Wow - love the variety here! @GAC - what's up with that medal? And how big is it?
Haven't had too many purchases this year, but this is on the way. 1711/2 Taler NGC 63
Its 77 MM so its a big one! This medal commemorates the Battle of Leipzig, which took place from October 16-19, 1813. This was a decisive battle during the Napoleonic Wars, known as the Battle of Nations, where the coalition of Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Sweden defeated Napoleon's forces. The surrounding figures on the medal are key leaders from these allied nations. This particular conflict was notable for being one of the largest and bloodiest battles in European history, with over 500,000 soldiers involved and around 90,000 casualties.
Also love yours as well, super nice color and great strike.
I mentioned I bought four new IHC’s @ the Tampa show today. I posted 3 of them on the toned copper thread. The fourth one is here:
MS 64BN CAC. It’s the S-8 variety & pretty rare. Not in Red Book. On the rev the upper right point of the shield is connected to the denticles by a die line. The left side is well away.
On the bottom rev, the ribbon ends & arrows are heavily polished, so they seem shorter. There’s a die chip beneath the bottom arrow point.
On the obv, all the letters show extra outlines. Cool coin!
just picked up the 1927-s to finish my peace dollar set. this is my 3rd peace dollar set but the only one that I completed. the other 2 I did not have the funds for the 1934-s but things have changed and now it was not a problem. pictures are not the best as I used my phone
The variety 1 (like this one) is more available than the variety 2. Determination is made by the positioning of the last tail feather. 1 points between the I & C; 2 is between the C & A. Really nice eye appeal for this example + it’s nice for the 64RB grade. PDS rating is (15: 5,5,5) - as good as it gets.
