I might as well show the Joe Louis. I have been looking for an African Tobacco that was affordable for a while. It's banged up a little, but it's pretty rare, and it's the Brown Bomber, so what the heck.
Great card. I need to add a J. Louis to my collection since I have spent the majority of my life in the Detroit area. I don't own any boxing cards but if I pull the trigger on one it most likely will be J.L. Congrats on a great addition to your collection.
Thank you. Yes, Joe Louis in my opinion is the greatest of all time. Ebay has a lot of Joe Louis cards you might like, check them out sometime. I practically live in the Joe Louis card section on Ebay!

May pickup, just home from Newport Beach. The 22nd copy to appear in a PSA slab, this example is incredibly beautiful in hand and once again looks quite aesthetically pleasing in the PSA flip. I know these are interesting times in the collector’s universe (PUN!), but this is a fun find that any hobbyist - coins or cards - can appreciate for both its rarity and it’s significance. After all, he is a top ten all time baseball player and this is the first card he every appeared on as an MLB player, making this a true rookie card. A very proud addition to my collection...

PSA mail day! Thanks you @cefy1 for the sub, several Pop 1 and Pop 2 cards for my Roy collection. Overall very happy with the sub, despite some misses on the rest of the sub, and a bit disappointed by the Orr:

Just got in another oddball Jordan card,it's 4x6 and from a 1989 redemption promotion through Mobil & Coca-Cola. Buy 12 multi-packs of Coke products at Mobil, fill out the form on the back of the card and mail along with your receipts to get a free Come Fly With Me VHS Video. The card itself looks to be in great condition and both BGS & SGC grade them if I go that route.
That's awesome! I've never seen that one before.

Thanks Abe. I've seen it mentioned that these were given out at Mobil stations and also in 12pk/cases of Coke products so there must have been tons of these around back then. I love MJ's 80s stuff so I had to grab one.
Here are the cards that I picked up so far this month. I started the 1961 Nu-Card Scoops a couple years ago but stopped working on it for a while. I recently started picking up cards to try and finish the set. I currently have 2/3 of the set.

Love those Cowboys cards! That 1967 Rose is fantastic!
A little background on this item. In 1924, the Anthracite League champion Pottsville Maroons traveled to Atlantic City on November 9, 1924 to play the Atlantic City Roses. The Pottsville Maroons were attempting to enter the NFL for the 1925 season and a strong showing by their team (they won the game 22-0) and by their fans (the away side stands were packed as you can see in the photo) persuaded the NFL to grant the Pottsville Maroons entry to the NFL for the 1925 season.
In 1925 the Pottsville Maroons would go 10-1-1 on the season including 7 shutouts. They gave up a total of 6 touchdowns their first year in the NFL and outscored their opponents 270-45. After beating the Chicago Cardinals 21-7, papers nation wide printed the Maroons as champions of the NFL. The next week they did the unthinkable and beat the 4 horsemen and 7 mules of Notre Dame, the 1924 college champions, 9-7 legitimizing the NFL. However, a territorial dispute with the Frankfurt Yellow Jackets lead to their suspension from the league and cost them the NFL championship.
This Type 1 panoramic photo shows the Pottsville Maroons bench and stands on November 9, 1924 when they proved they had the fan support and quality as a team to be admitted into the NFL. This particular copy is believed to be that of Doc Striegel, the owner of the Pottsville Maroons. The photo is mounted to a board that carries his name on the reverse.
The Maroons starters were on the field at the time of the photo, but a couple of important players for the 1925 team were being recruited during this game, their future captain Charlie Berry and quarterback Jack Ernst. Doc Striegel is visible in photo as well as long time Pottsville Maroons supporter Joseph Zacko.
You can see the amazing clarity of the photo, the Pottsville boosters are wearing ribbons with dangling footballs on their lapels, some are wearing Pottsville sashes made from pennants, etc. The train that day added 6 extra cars to transport fans from Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Atlantic City, New Jersey for the game.
The Maroons played their home games in the NFL about 12 miles from where I grew up, so I'm really excited to have this item in my collection.
Just picked this up and ran it through the scanner.... #142/221 on the basic set.. I could not get this card to go to the bottom of the holder. I settled for the top.
I'm as pissed as anybody about the latest scandal in our hobby, but after weeks of us all sleuthing and ranting, I figured I'd like to share some cards I've picked up recently. I'll start with a couple of Andre Tippett additions. As a lot of you know, I'm a Tippett super collector. As such, there aren't many of his playing-years cards left that have eluded me. Imagine my surprise when I checked two off the wish list in the same week! First, this 1988 Ace FACT game card completes the decade of the 1980s for me!
Next, the 1991 Stadium Club - Super Bowl embossed. The embossment is hard to see in pics, but it's there.
I have almost 300 unique playing era Tippett cards in my collection, and only a handful left on my wish list. Here is that list:
1990 British Petroleum (BP)
1990 Knudsen/Sealtest bookmark
1992 Wild Card - 1,000 stripe
1993 Action Packed - mint parallel
1993 Coke Monsters of the Gridiron - gold parallel
1993 Wild Card - any stripes higher than 5
If any of you can help with any of these cards, PLEASE let me know!
I knew Tippett probably wouldn't move the meter, and probably 1980's Donruss won't either, but here's a recent Yaz pickup. Please excuse dust on the scanner.
I broke up my cc renewal sub into 3 portions. Here are the results of portion 2 of 3:
A little background: I hit an Austin Hays red ink auto in 2018 Heritage and traded it for thirteen low grade 1941 Play Ball commons. These were the 3 from that batch that I decided to sub.
Portion 3 of 3 of that renewal sub was PSA/DNA autographs. Here are the results, starting with my favorite of the bunch, and with notes on each.
As many of you know, I'm obsessed with Yaz cards, but many don't know that Dwight Evans is easily my 2nd favorite player of all time. I personally don't like RC's with 3 or more players on them, so I've always preferred Dewey's 1974 "first solo" card much more than his 73 RC. Even unsigned, the 74 Topps Dewey has never garnered a PSA 10, so I was thrilled when this PSA 9 crackout got autographed and remained a 9. Pop 1, none higher! An absolute monster for my PC!
I've been working on an autographed 74 Topps Red Sox team set. Here is a link to my showcase:
In that same submission, I also added these 2 cards to that project:
Both Guerrero and Beniquez were PSA 9 crackouts that lost a point, which is to be expected.
This Kaline is the oldest card in this batch and I think it's the best looking one. PSA 7 crackout, TTM sig. Given its age and all that handling, I'm not disappointed in the grade. Like I said, I personally think the eye appeal is off the charts.
The Carlton was a PSA 8 crackout, which I had him sign in person last November. Kind of a weird experience, as the entire interaction was Carlton ranting at my 12 year old about "new math."
Perez was a PSA 8 crackout that kept its grade. Another in-person signing. Took 2 tries to pass PSA/DNA despite the fact that I watched him sign it.
I believe Mr. Craig should be in the HOF. The signed card was a gift from a friend and I just wanted it slabbed.
This pickup is a great get well aligned with my core passion of collecting. While the grade would certainly be lower, the eye appeal is incredible on this one. I would say that's almost become the theme of my collection, in an unintended way. I'm completely unbothered by this - I could never afford the high end stuff, anyway. But I like when the item sits in the slab in total defiance of the number. If I send this west one day (I'm hoping for some relief in the price of Jumbos), this new Mantle pickup will join my pile of tremendous looking Commerce Comet treasures...
