This actually gives me some hope for the playoffs. The Rams are NOT as good as I thought they were.

i loveeee how this is playing out. if Philly wins their last two, @stevek is going to require assistance from my team. so you better be nice to me, otherwise i'll call Matt Nagy and tell him to start Chase Daniel the final game of the season.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

You're right, it may come down to your Bears beating the Vikings, two weeks from now.

Galaxy, i sincerely mean this...you are perhaps the greatest forum poster i have ever seen on the internet, and why you haven't received the Nobel Prize yet for some category, I do not understand?

Now you'd better make sure your Bears win that game or I'm taking back my compliment. ;)

Rams, Chiefs, Saints are not as elite as I thought they were

Do we have a front runner for CU sports talk poster of the year? 🤔

Defenses have figured out some of the flaws that Ribisi has and make him look a little Wentz out there lately

It’s a long season, and teams get beat-up and burnt-out. Of all the major, football is the hardest to maintain a high level of excellence over the short and long term. At this point, I would say that the playoffs are pretty wide open.

my sarcasm detector was going bonkers when i read this, but it must simply be in need of calibration because you said sincerely and therefore must have genuinely meant every word you said. so thank you very much for acknowledging and enjoying my persistent brilliance. Marie Curie has nothing on me.

because you are being nice and are coerced to care about what i say -- otherwise i will text Matt Nagy and wake him up this morning -- here's my take on last night's game....

holistically, i couldn't care less about the Eagles. i can't emphasize that enough. but after that performance against the (supposed) big bad Rams, i have mad respect for every player on that Philadelphia roster. who saw that effort coming? anyone? anyone? bueller? anyone?

    no one of sound mind.

in fact, the public flogging picture you posted yesterday morning was exactly what i thought was going to happen. the Eagles have been floundering all season, and the water was on the verge of rising above their noses. the Cowboys were on the brink of clinching, and entering through the back door via a wild card spot seemed like a pipe dream.

then, something happened. what that something was, i don't know exactly. but here's my impartial opinion/take. there's something about Foles. i don't know what it is exactly, but i sense that he's got "it." it's just one of those inscrutable traits that certain signal caller possess.

but let's put what he did last night into the proper perspective. we're talking about a backup quarterback here. a dude who should be rustier than a nail, yet he looked cooler than a cucumber in the pocket the entire game. the equivalent of what he did is me not playing a round of golf for an entire year, then setting foot on a difficult track and shooting 75. it just couldn't and wouldn't happen. so when Foles guided that team to another improbable victory, i started having SB LII flashbacks. all things considered and with everything at stake, an unreal performance.

naturally, i don't know how the rest of the season is going to play out. the Texans may roll into Philly and put them to sleep next weekend. but if the Eagles win, then win again, and the Bears have an opportunity for a first-round bye in week 17 and go full-throttle against the Vikes, there's still a puncher's chance of them playing more than 16 games. if NF steers them into the playoffs, will he really revert to clipboard-holder once again?

as an outsider, i find it to be a fascinating dynamic.

(another game ball goes out to the much-maligned defense, and, more specifically, the decimated secondary. those guys played phenomenally well.)

I think Foles gets paid this offseason and goes to a more deserving team. The eagles stick with harry potter's pal who leads them to another playoff miss next year , well half leads them he will probably miss 8 games

Take a look at the stats of Nick Foles from the 2013 season with the Eagles. He had a Pro Bowl season with Hall of Fame stats, and it was only his second season in the league. Yet not hardly any Eagles fans at that time thought of him as a superstar, future great quarterback. Certainly the Eagles didn't think much of him. The Eagles got rid of Foles after the next season.

Foles just never seemed to have that "it" factor of being a great QB despite the great stats in that 2013 season. And the following season he basically went into the tank.

Why Foles is like this with the inconsistency is a puzzler in which probably even he can't figure it out.

Of course I wish him well if he does leave the Eagles after this season which appears likely at this point. Eagles fans will never forget as long as we live, what Nick Foles accomplished for the Eagles during the 2017 season. So Eagles fans will always have a place in their heart for Nick Foles, and he exemplified that with a terrific winning performance last night against the heavily favored Rams.

I think the book on Foles now is that he is one heckuva backup quarterback, debatably one of the best ever based on what he did last season. So Nick Foles, based on his past performance, is certainly capable of great things for a short run of time. However for various reasons, he just seems incapable of doing it on a consistent basis over an entire season. Sorry to say if some team in the off season throws a boatload of money at Foles expecting him to be the starter for the entire season and beyond, and take them to a Super Bowl, I think that team is going to wind-up very disappointed.

We shall see what the future brings for Nick Foles in the NFL. Hopefully he will further cement his legacy with the Eagles by winning some more games this season...and that I really am serious about :)

@stevek In that 2013 season Foles set the NFL record for TD:INT ratio but then Brady broke the same record in 2016.

Philly should just shutdown Wentz for the season and let Foles finish these last two games.

I think some here (particularly Grote) are beginning to understand the mistake the Giants made last season in the draft. Barkley is a stud RB, no question about it. And yes he sells tickets. But unfortunately for the Giants future, Barkley helped improve their record this season only enough so that the Giants won't have any chance of, in theory, getting the second best QB in the draft this upcoming April like they could have had in the previous draft, unless they can trade-up.

I don't know their upcoming draft position, if they have any higher picks attained from previous dealings. I don't fully know Eli's status either with his contract. But it seems the Giants might still wind-up with Eli as their QB next season, which means another season wasted on not grooming a future QB, and in the meantime, after next season there will be two years of wear and tear on Barkley.

In my opinion, the Giants front office these days are not playing the game of draft day chess very well, fully realizing that a queen (QB) is far more important than a bishop or rook (RB) in putting together a potential Super Bowl team.

With the Giants being in the same division as my Eagles, i enjoy seeing the Giants make these draft day mistakes, so that they stay out of contention for years to come.

But maybe it will somehow work out for the Giants. We shall see.

BTW: yesterday "stud RB" Barkley rushed for 31 yards on 14 carries.

The Tampa team messed up years ago when they drafted a running back, Cadillac Willions, instead of one of the good quaterbacks that were available that year. Running backs have the shortest careers of all football players overall. They get beatup every week, and most of the okay to good ones are finished after four seasons.

Williams wrecked his knee in his second season and was gone in less than four. The Giants would do well to start grooming a new quarterback, but @stevek wrote, as an Eagle's fan, I approve of all of their misteps and hope that they make more of them.

You may recall the Donovan McNabb/Ricky Williams draft day saga for the Eagles. Some Eagles fans booed the McNabb pic, instead wishing for the stud RB pick of Ricky Williams who was more highly touted than Saquon Barkley.

Yes, Williams had some good stat seasons, but his teams never accomplished much. I don't recall Williams ever being in the playoffs, but maybe he was once or twice, i'm not sure.

In any event, McNabb had a pretty good career, getting the Eagles into the Super Bowl although not winning it. But the Eagles during the time of McNabb consistently made the playoffs.

McNabb's name has been mentioned as a possible Hall of Famer, although I don't think he did quite enough. Williams will never even sniff the Hall of Fame.

I think it's safe to say that Ricky Williams is best known for his prolific marijuana use, LOL

I don't think that McNabb should be in the Hall of Fame.

Something happened to him at the end of his career. He seemed to lose all of the fire that had once been in his belly. I remember that the Eagles had to play the Cowboys two games in a row at the end and at the start of the playoff season. The Eagles lost the first game, and they had to win the second one to move on in the playoffs. If they had won the first, they might have avoided the Cowboys in the playoffs.

The second game was in Dallas, and there was a clip of McNabb headed into the locker room before the game, He had a big smile on his face ... not at the game face you might have expected. I thought right then and there that we didn't have a chance in the game. We lost it with McNabb turning in a lack luster performance.

As I remember it, McNabb never did much after that. He moved on to another team and then retired.

Anyone can say what they want about that incident with McNabb, but the Patriots were simply the much better team that season. Yes, McNabb certainly didn't play his best game that day, but if it wasn't for him, the Eagles would have never made it that far to begin with.

Anyway, we got even last season. ;)

It's funny during summer football practice in high school, our head coach who played college football, warned us about eating nasty foods before a game. But it wasn't the puking he mentioned, it was possibly crapping our pants during the game. He said he saw that happen a few times during his playing days.

Well, he didn't have to tell me twice. I envisioned doing that in front of the cheerleaders, each one of them I had the hots for, and what they might think if I did that. I made sure I never ate a damn thing the morning before a Saturday game. LOL

It was low hanging fruit lol. The first time I ever saw him play was in a game for the Syracuse basketball team back when he played two sports there. Then I started collecting his rookies once he got to Philly.
IMO he had a pretty decent NFL career and IIRC led the Eagles to four straight NFC championship games in the mid 2000's.

Most Philly fans wound up liking McNabb. There was always the various reasons why the Eagles didn't go farther, and of course McNabb being the QB has to bear some of that responsibility. Andy Reid has to bear some of that responsibility as well.

Interesting that Andy Reid is now doing with the Chiefs what he did with the Eagles. Putting together a solid football team. Reid never won a Super Bowl for the Eagles but perhaps he will with Patrick Mahomes.

I think most people probably don't equate Andy Reid with the Hall of Fame. But I think if Reid wins a Super Bowl with Mahomes, he would get strong consideration.

Brady might need some ego deflation, but I think Belichick sees the problems and be making the adjustments UNLESS he decides to retire. In that case, welcome to a re-play of the late 1970s.

Cmon Philly, how about giving us an early Xmas present with a win today.

    • signed all of New England

this pats fan wants the pats to miss the playoffs so some massive egos are forced to face reality in the off season

Well I'm not a bandwagon Pats fan,i'll stick with them till the end.

Well I think Bill needs to get his nose rubbed in what hes made of the season. Maybe he needs to go , maybe Tom needs to go. To me they both stop working towards the pursuit of a supperbowl and drifted off into managing their stupid brands and masturbating to pictures of themselves

I don't think missing the playoffs will change any of what you just said. Those egos are sticking together for probably another year or two.
I don't see no clear cut favorite in the AFC so who knows what will happen come playoff time.

You have to face facts. When you take the Cowboys out of Dallas, they turn into the Tenderfoots.

When you take the Patriots out of Foxborough, they turn into the Patsies.

too bad the cowboys and patriots weren't playing each other in London, it would either be a 0-0 tie or triple digits

They are playing at home against the Bucs and barely winning! We need a better QB! I think Aikman could come out of the booth and do better!!!!!

If you are pulling a QB from the booth you don't want that stiff go with Romo

The Tampa Bucks have some big guns on the deck (offense), but they are floating on a ship with a rotten hull filled with sea worms (defense). Have no fear. Your Cowboys are safe this week. If the chips are down, Mark Sanchez could drive for the winning touchdown against the Tampa defense.

After that first Dallas series, that “dog in the dress” is looking better all the time.

Do you remember the dog Aaron Rogers had working with him in his ads last season. That puppy was a pretty good receiver.

I REALLY hate to say it, but Dak is looking more and more like Romo. I really thought we had a great QB in the making.

We need to start looking at QB's in the draft again.

Maybe Aaron Rogers will be available. Don't look now, but the Jets are beating the Packers by two + touchdowns. That's embarrassing even if you are out of the playoffs.

Yea, but he ruffs the passer and gets Foles out of the game. Good foul.
