What does PCGS use to determine the weights assigned to coins in registry sets? Does the process ne
PCGS has managed to boil weights down to one rather small number for each coin in each series. We used to have some raging debates on this forum between PCGS's system and NGC's weighting system. Most people felt like NGC's system is better able to weight a specific coin for true scarcity and census condition and grade… -
Pop report/Registry weighting
After reading the thread on the 1959 variations, and how much they command on the open market, I still find it hard to believe that PSA doesn't assign weight to the truly tough-to-find cards in the Registry sets. The Pierce card #572 in '59 Topps? Shouldn't that be a 10 weight? How about the #11 Hunter? At least an 8. All… -

Set Registry Weighting?

After all the threads debating specific weightings for different sets, it looks like the 1-10 scale is coming back. I just noticed that today the 1954 Topps BB set has been re-weighted back to a 1-10 scale, instead of the previous 1-54 weighting. However, while there are many inconsistencies with the current weights, in my opinion the weighted sets are a still an improvement over the previous non weighted sets. It does not appear PCGS has a process in place to effectively evaluate and process input from collectors, the… -
weights for registry sets
Dear Mr. Hall, TDN recently brought to my attention the proposed weights for the Seated Dollar sets. I have great issue with at least two of the weights, and I've already emailed BJ with my thoughts. My question to you, however, is by what criteria did you come up with the initial proposed weights? Obviously, rarity is… -
Registry points/weights question
I am pretty new to registry and this is probably discussed here already, but couldnt find much on my question. So here goes pertaining to Mercury dimes; How is possible that my recent purchase of a 1945 P ms66+ for $56.00 has 266 points? And my 1916 d vg10 has only 100, when it is clearly worth many multiples more? I…
