Re: Options and change ARE a good thing in this hobby
@Jacques_Loungecoque: enjoyed reading your post. This is turning into a great thread! Elsewhere, I posted as to why I collect slabs rather than raw (although I do have a handful of those) - it’s for my heirs (my grandkids). At this point, I have no way of knowing how much interest they will have, if any. But, there are… -
Re: Marilyn Monroe cards
PA, I have the raw sets myself and plenty of extras. Marilyn died at the age of 36 in 1962 and will never age as the rest of will do. We will all remember her as she last was. I was 18 when she left us. Just like these cards for the sentimental value. I know they never will be worth anything except to me. I have 11 graded… -
Re: Your Greatest Auction...
An estate auction (live, not Internet) in Texas. Among my purchases were 5 1979 proof sets for about $30. All were type 2s! Internt, a seller listing "flawed" 1959 proof sets. The halves were spotted. But the quarters were frosty! Asked if he had more.... 17 more sets. 20 of the 22 quarters went into CAM holders, most 67… -
Re: DO YOU COLLECT MODERN PCGS PR69DCAM PROOF COINS?
"This is a great way for new collectors to start a registry and add to it over the years." Agreed. PR69DC Lincolns start getting "tough" at 1976(s) and earlier. 1977(s) is a bit tougher and from my experience many "date run" of PR69DC Lincolns I have seen in the marketplace begin with 1978(s) as a result. Since PCGS… -
Re: What do you guys think of this wild rainbow toned 1983 Kennedy?
<< <i>You have a good eye, Jom. >> Hardly....just experience. I've had my raw set in a Dansco holder for about 11 years so you can guess what some of the coins look like now. You'll also note that it will be the copper-nickel ones that do this type of toning. I've never had any of the 40% silver or the 1964's tone at all.… -
Re: I am at a Crossroad...Lincoln Wheatbacks
Well, the good stuff was pretty pricey relatively speaking even a decade ago. Slabbed post-1940 coins are pretty overpriced across the board in this series, although you can still find decent stuff raw if you have the time to look. Our only hope is that prices will "crash" (relative to the recent ridiculous run-up of the… -
Re: If you were starting a TPG . . .
Tougher grading, along the lines of ICCS. Good images of raw coin and slabbed coin with cert number so won't have to worry about fakes. 20-point grading scale, 1-10 for the circ grades, 11-20 corresponding to 61-70. Slab like 1st gen pcgs with clear ring around the coin. Shows scratches but so what, looks like the coin is… -
Re: Another Ike question for the Ike Masters
I see why now! Its titled a Type 11 . My searches are on Type 2. Thats probably why non of the heavy hitters spotted it as well! Nice Score! Any Type 2, regardless of grade if a very nice Score! I remember bidding on an XF-45 and getting outbid at $160! It seems like the middle of the grade's offer the best buys when they… -
Re: Can someone please tell me the PCGS census for this DDO Quarter
PCGS Does NOT recognize FS-016.5 (Die 5) as its own variety (thus no pop numbers). The numbers Keyrock mentions are for Die 11; a much stronger DDO and the only one recognized as a variety by PCGS. The other Roger recently sold a PCGS AU50 and I know of one other in higher grade PCGS plastic as well as a handful of raw MS… -
Re: Who Likes War Nickels?
There are very nice sets of the 11 silver War Dates already in holders in Gem BU condition for around $125 (there maybe a mix of 64/65/66 in the really good sets, expect to pay dearly for all MS-66's and the uber grade 67's. I picked mine out of individual coins from here and there, it was a lot of fun marking them off the…
