You might be right...however, would a hijacked account be able to generate and submit fake positive feedback from multiple past platinum and gold Buff sales (I know they're there...I read them before hitting Buy It Now)?
And why wouldn't a PowerSeller notice all of this unauthorized activity over a prolonged period and immediately report it to eBay to have his rogue account blocked?
As others on this board have indicated...you know and have dealt with Cameron before, correct? Would he miss all of this? Would any of us?

PS...as to why he might be selling them at recent issue price...who knows? I thought he might be needing to raise cash quickly...or he borrowed the money...or he bought them earlier in the year for twice the price...or any other number of unfortunate financial issues? Who knows? But there are possible reasons why you might need to have a fire sale.
<< <i><<It could be a hijacked acct or it could be that he shipped several together and they got snatched and he's in panick trying to deal with USPS. He'd need to refund it out of what he has since a postal refund won't be fast.>>

This might be the explanation...EXCEPT that he sold the same set yesterday and another one this morning (to me). Now why would you be still selling the same item when there was a major, still unsettled screw up involving the USPS? The only explanation that MIGHT work is that the lost merchandise was recovered, he cancelled/credited some of the earlier sales (out of pocket) while the merchandise was missing, and now is trying to quickly resell the recovered platinum to recover his out-of-pocket expenses. But this is total conjecture on my part.
And yes, hearing from Cameron directly would help. >>

Interesting the two sets that sold, cheaper, back on Dec. 8th & 9th have different, "store bought", pics while these that've recently sold have what appears to be actual photos of sets that he's waiting on his "supplier" for.
I e-mailed him through eBay as this is the only method of contact I have with him...since my sale only executed about 12 hours ago.
We have had no actual two-way communication yet....only my request for an explanation to tonight's negative feedback concerning non delivery of a plat set.
The ironic thing is that I was THISCLOSE to bidding on another plat set he sold Friday...but someone beat me to it.

Also interesting is that he's cranked out quite a few Buff proofs recently...at not much over cost...and received positive feedback to boot?!?!?
Something did not seem right to me when I saw the sets on ebay at $2150 per, while I saw buyer(s) on the BST board at $2,800 at the same time for the same sets! But, let's wait and see what Cammie has to say about all of this. All of our business dealings in the past went very smoothly. I am hopeful he will have an explanation for this and ensure no one is out a penny.

I had bought a bunch of these sets at a great price months ago prior to the US Mint selling out of them. I held on to them for a few months and then platinum started dropping like a bomb. I got scared and then started listing them on ebay with a price that I thought was fair. I am not a member of facts or cce and in hindsight should have been and would have known they sell for way more than issue price at the mint even when platinum dropped alot. Mitch if I had known they were $3,000 sets I would have sold you every one! I'm serious.
I shipped the sets priority mail insured. As I figured they would get there fast and have to be signed for. I had two packages go missing last week....ok I refunded the money out of my pocket and started working on a postal claim. All of a sudden a ton of people start e-mailing and wonder where the sets are. Now I am freaking out! I stand behind my product and will give everyone refunds asap if the packages are stolen. I believe it is someone at my local post office and will be contacting the denver police and postal inspectors, not just turn in the claims at the local post office.
<< <i>Something's still up. Why would he give a refund short $85? >>
Because all I had in my paypal for a instant payment was $2,000. I didnt want him to be scared with a transfer from my checking and have to wait. I was going to paypal the rest monday when I have more money in there.
My account was not hijacked and I will make this right for everyone even if it ruins my business that I have so hard tried to make. The guy who gave a neg got a refund prior to the neg.
Well an email though Ebay is good for a second chance offer but really what difference would it make if the highjacked account has his password? He could reply with an Ebay email or another email account.
Cameron, Thanks for replying to the thread. I know you're a stand-up guy and I hope you are able to recover your losses and get this squared away. Good luck.

I can't speak for Mr Kiefer but to most in the industry it's just bullion. I know you don't want to hear that, but it is the way it is. Away from ebay and a couple of specialty modern dealers this stuff trades behind melt.
The Plat collector market is still small enough that some of them don't command a premium, but "the industry" isn't invested in them, therefore "the industry" does what it does best - when buying them, they are trash, when selling them - all of a sudden the mintages and scarcity becomes a huge issue. Let's be clear about "the industry".
The 2008 Proofs didn't have a premium until they quickly sold out and and the *recognition* seeped in that they were short-struck. Then, more *recognition* seeped in that the sales numbers represented the lowest mintage year, period. In fact, most dealers are not up on the developments in the various bullion programs - to their detriment.
The dealer syndicate is, somewhat justifiably envious and resentful of the Mint selling direct to collectors, instead of the sweet deal they got in the bullion distribution scheme. They don't like having such a large competitor for collector funds, and since they can't get in at a lower price than collectors who buy directly from the Mint, they tend to badmouth the Modern Bullion series whenever they are forced to discuss them.
It seems to me that Modern Bullion coins are quite popular, and the dealers who have taken the risk and the time to be in that market are doing fine. Perhaps some of the extra disenchantment is because there isn't as much room for the dealers to play the "upgrade resubmission game", since many of the coins are obviously 69s or 70s anyway. Much of this dissing Modern Bullion is simply sour grapes.

It only goes to proof, that prior to listing any coin on eBay, do a little research aka completed auctions, to get a feel of what they are selling for.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
I was not dissing bullion, I was simply stating realities in the market place. I actually agree with much of your post. One of the biggest reasons dealers don't get involved in these markets is because they cannot compete with the US Mint and they can not play all the traditional games. It is one of the most compelling arguments for collecting these, in that dealers are not required.
I apologize if you felt I was dissing, just stating the obvious. And, as Cameron stated above he does follow this market and bought these at a lower price and simply priced these at what seemed to be a decent profit for him. In many cases dealer ignorance can be a profit opportunity to those in the know. I am sure in the future he will do a little more homework if he ever handles this type product again.
I am just sorry that Cameron has to deal with this postal situation. I have known Cameron since he was a mere youth and unless the coin business has really hardened this young man he is simply not capable of intentionally harming anyone.
Months ago, before the Mint suspended sales, the sets sold for over $4,000 but yet he was able to purchase, resale them and make a profit at 1/2 the price? Something doesn't add up.

With no information from you (not your fault) some postings went a bit over the top. Now that you have replied, no one in their right mind can think of you as a scammer.
You need to speak to the Manager or Postmaster at the office of mailing. S/he may have some good advice for you, and might be able to track it. Of course, for anything over $500, an investment in the higher fee for Registered Mail would have protected you. In any event, it is possible that the packages are in transit. You have the right to notify the Postal Inspection Service, but you might not have to. You definitely should communicate with every buyer, before any of them goes ballistic. Good luck!

I'm not tooting my horn, I'm just establishing credibility to those that don't know me for what I am about to say:
Cameron screwed up by not doing more research. Does that make him a bad guy? H$% no! Mistakes are what enable us to grow. To add insult to injury, he has been victimized by an apparent theft. I feel sorry for this guy, and my advice Cameron is to take a deep breath and take the necessary steps one by one, to put this to rest, as you already are doing.
This year we were victimized by $100,000. in credit card fraud. If you do lots of business you will have problems.
I don't know Cameron personally, but know his reputation and will do anything I can to help him if he asks.

As a direct party to what could have turned into a real mess involving a high-priced item...let me just say I'm just extremely relieved that Cameron's account wasn't hijacked by parties unknown (along with my CC payment). As I told him privately, that was priority #1 in my mind.
I can't tell you what a sick feeling I had when I logged in and saw my own eBay purchase being discussed along with a potential hijacking...I never want a repeat of that! And let's just say that I didn't sleep very well last night as a result (my wife was wondering what I was typing at 1:30 this AM).
I guess Cameron just isn't into this whole platinum issue as deep as many on this forum...likely because we've all been fixated on it for weeks to the exclusion of much/all else. And don't forget, I don't really think the numismatic press has really put a spotlight on the recent rash of PM sellouts...so much of the collector base is still somewhat unaware of the potential rarities shaping up in 2008.
Bottom line...if Cameron says he's going to do the right thing...let's not pile on. I'm sure we've all either bought or sold items that have caused regrets down the road (in my case...there was a '9S VDB...solid MS...and a recent widow at a flea market about 5 years ago). She wanted $100 for the entire Whitman folder that her late husband had mounted it in. Instead of pulling out a C-note, I pulled her son (who wasn't a collecter) aside and told him the what the real deal was. And yes, it was solidly struck, still more red than brown, and didn't have any fingerprints on it. And many other early holes were also similarly filled with nice specimens.
Do I think of this every time I look at the corresponding hole in my own Dansco...yes. Have I been called an idiot when I tell this story to other collectors...ABSOLUTELY! Do I regret doing the right thing...truthfully...no...not usually...Ok hardly ever.
I just hope Cameron is able to sort all this out with the USPS...hopefully his packages have simply gone astray in the holiday tidalwave and will turn up.
In nearly every case where we've had a problem with the Post Office, resolutions "mysteriously" have materialized. Postal tampering is such a serious offense no one wants to be a part of it except complete idiots. We're talking serious jail time. Whenever we have started making calls (do it on both ends, your PO and the recipients) answers follow. I can't tell you how many times tracking numbers have evaporated or only been logged in at point of drop off, then two weeks later re-appear. Stay hopeful....

Whenever I send anything with a value above $400 or so, I ALWAYS send it REGISTERED. Never had a problem. I have had 4 or 5 $200 (regular insured) packages disappear inside the Post Office in the last 10 years. I did get compensated by the Post Office in each of those cases - usually took about 1 to 3 months.
I bought one of the sets on Nov. 11th. Weeks past and I never got it. I did eventually get a full refund. One of my concerns was the lack of any valid tracking number when I requested it from him.
The proof platinum market is a very, very specialized modern field. One can learn a great deal reading these boards, but certainly not everything. Cammie's actions are totally understandable, especially with 2008 product. As I said before, I am confident he will make good on his transactions the best he can.
Out of here until tomorrow.

Cameron, I'm not accusing you of anything, and I did leave you positive feedback for the refund, but why still send the sets USPS regular 1st class insured for only $400? You knew my set was lost by late Nov. early Dec.. Why not change to something more secure like registered mail with online tracking? -Tony
Cameron could end this whole debate by posting tracking numbers and I for one don't believe anyone would ship gold or platinum without a number. Also I don't believe for a minute that every shipment would be stolen. There are a lot of unanswered questions here and I don't believe we have heard the last of it.
I'm surprised you guys buying these sets didn't insist on registered insured. I notice from my dealings with the post office the clerks tend to learn who is buying and selling coins.

New issues are always volatile and the markets are always "inefficient" especially when the mintages aren't known. Nothing in this thread seems incredible to me. I'm sorry that you got nailed by the P.O. Just work through it. Regards, jmski.
I knew it would happen.
<< <i>I can't keep replying to this thread because it is making me sick to my stomach thinking how people think I am scamming anyone. >>

To add insult to injury,
he has been victimized by an apparent theft. I feel sorry for this guy, and my advice Cameron is to take a deep breath and take the necessary steps one by one, to
put this to rest, as you already are doing.

Postal tampering is such a serious offense
no one wants to be a part of it except complete idiots. We're talking serious jail time. Whenever we have started making calls (do it on both ends, your PO and the recipients)
answers follow. I can't tell you how many times tracking numbers have evaporated or only been logged in at point of drop off, then two weeks later re-appear.
Stay hopeful....

Not so safe.... I would need to compare your seven figures in transactions this past year to mine John.

I have had 4 or 5 $200 (regular insured) packages disappear inside the Post Office in the last 10 years.
I did get compensated by the Post Office in each of those cases - usually took about 1 to 3 months.
valid tracking number when I requested it from him.
<< <i>Yeah....sure >>
Coinboy,
I personally know Cameron and I believe that your insinuations are not warranted in this case.
Out of here until tomorrow.

I'm not accusing you of anything, and I did leave you positive feedback for the refund, but why still send the sets USPS regular 1st class insured for only $400? You knew my set was lost by late Nov. early Dec.. Why not change
to something more secure like registered mail with online tracking?

Hi Mitch. I knew if anyone challenged this, it would be you, but I stand my statement.

There are a lot of unanswered questions here and I don't believe we have heard the last of it.
