I can't wait for the 2008 Heritage cards, and we've not even finished the 2007 season yet! I think I need to work on another Heritage set between now and then...
I know it's early, but I am SO ready for this set. I didn't get into the 2007 product until March/April last year, but that will not be the case in 2008.
Funny that post this Nam, because I was just going through my '07 set to finish up my binder. I finally got the Swisher SP and Shane Youman, so I'm down to only needing the Jay Payton card to finish my master set. I also took one of those blank white filler cards for the missing card #145 and wrote a note on it before placing it in the binder.
Some sites are posting 2008 Topps Heritage cards for pre-sell prices of about $80 a box. One site even has a display box. It has a Feb. 27 release date. Anybody see any sell sheets?
Just purchased two cases of 2008 Topps Heritage. Presell of course, $588 each (free shipping). I figure it is 83 days until release and then I go to Heritage Heaven. Will be looking for the usual suspects to trade for relic, chromes and SPs. Thank god no Mantle insert set this year. (if they all weren't the same card, it wouldn't have been so bad).
Paul - who are you ordering from, do they have any left, and how far after release date have you typically gotten your product? I've got a local guy that was going to be around $55 per box, and I'll be able to get them a day after release. The past few years I've been buying them from Lawrence over on the Beckett boards, but they end up getting to me almost a week after release. If I can save $6 per box with your supplier, then I think I'd like to get in on that.

PS -- the release day is Feb. 28. i still might buy a case from lrcards. they are in upstate new york and has been very good. if you presell buy from them, with a check, it is under $638 a case.
Maybe you guys have seen the sell sheets. Some big changes this year:
- 425 base, only 75 sp's - 4 insert sets instead of 3 (a new flashback news 10 card subset). 6 inserts per box. - sp's are inserted 1:3 packs (not the normal 1:2) - 1 auto or relic per box - only 100 chromes (still the black, refractor, normal varieties). 2 per box. - HOBBY exclusives: 10 cut 1959 sigs, 10 real-one dual autos - Hobby box loaders: 1 advertising panel per box, 1 1959 original per 2 boxes
I sense a watered-down trend here:
In 2008 240 packs gets you: 80 sp's 60 inserts 10 relics or autos 20 chromes or refractors ~1750 base
In 2007 240 packs got you: 120 sp's 20 chromes or refractors 90 inserts (mantls, a-rods, na, tn, fb) xx relics or autos (5 to 10?) ~1685 base
In 2006 240 packs got you: 120 sp's 30 chromes or refractors 48 inserts ( na, tn, fb) 20 checklists xx relics or autos (5 to 10?) ~1700 base

The nice thing about SP's this year is that it looks like there won't be any variations to worry about. It's a straight 500-card set (425 base and 75 SP's). No color variations, no black/night, no Nick Swisher big font/small font/green logo/black logo
Yeah, that Nick Swisher SP/font card from '07 was pretty ridiculous. Thought I had it, then I didn't. Traded for one, but it was really the one I already had. Ugh. Hopefully, none of that this year. Looking forward to it.
They are starting to post cards from the '08 set on beckett sales pages, (a bob gibson auto card). I'm a little rusty at photobucket or I would have linked it.
Interestingly, HeritageAddict, in one of his phony cards, was on target with Cubs Clubbers. It is Soriano, Lee and Ramirez.
Looking at the list, Topps could have done a better job linking old cards with new. Yes, A-Rod is the same number as Mantle was. (Another good one is Red Sox rookie Clay Buchholz with Herb Score). There area only a few other individual cards that make sense. (Why didn't they match up Tim Wakefied with Hoyt Wilhelm?)
Most of the team cards are the same. So are the combo cards (my favorite is Beckett and Matsuzaka). It looks like many of the rookie cards are grouped together like they were in 1959, (they'll probably have that striped background, too) and they have Baseball Thrills late in the set, too. That gives some stars an extra card). The set looks like it finishes with all-stars as well.
I can see why it was difficult for Topps to match players of similar. Sets began expanding at this point and the '59 set was a lot bigger than this Heritage set.
As for variations, the '59 set had a couple of variations, players who were outrighted or traded. Some card had two versions. I hope they don't waste cardboard with those sort of variations.
Another good thing about the set, they got rid of baseball executives. There is no Ford Frick to start off the set and no Warren Giles, either.
Topps will -have- to put some kind of variations in this set. They've worked too well in the past to drive 'completists' (like myself) into buying WAY too many packs of Heritage cards. There will probably be some old logo variations, "traded" line vatiations, or white/grey backs.
Note on the ARod card that the Heritage logo will have to be placed in a somewhat odd location because of the angle of the names on the top. The Heritage logo seems much lower than previous years.
I just learned from Ryan that the original 59 cards will be 1:2 boxes!! That might be an easier set to put together than the 08 heritage set!! So Gibson is not in the real one set, but he has other autos here? Is it Feb yet?

The nice thing about SP's this year is that it looks like there won't be any variations to worry about. It's a straight 500-card set (425 base and 75 SP's). No color variations, no black/night, no Nick Swisher big font/small font/green logo/black logo

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully, the checklist is stronger than 2007 !!
They are starting to post cards from the '08 set on beckett sales pages, (a bob gibson auto card). I'm a little rusty at photobucket or I would have linked it.
Interestingly, HeritageAddict, in one of his phony cards, was on target with Cubs Clubbers. It is Soriano, Lee and Ramirez.
Looking at the list, Topps could have done a better job linking old cards with new. Yes, A-Rod is the same number as Mantle was. (Another good one is Red Sox rookie Clay Buchholz with Herb Score). There area only a few other individual cards that make sense. (Why didn't they match up Tim Wakefied with Hoyt Wilhelm?)
Most of the team cards are the same. So are the combo cards (my favorite is Beckett and Matsuzaka). It looks like many of the rookie cards are grouped together like they were in 1959, (they'll probably have that striped background, too) and they have Baseball Thrills late in the set, too. That gives some stars an extra card). The set looks like it finishes with all-stars as well.
I can see why it was difficult for Topps to match players of similar. Sets began expanding at this point and the '59 set was a lot bigger than this Heritage set.
As for variations, the '59 set had a couple of variations, players who were outrighted or traded. Some card had two versions. I hope they don't waste cardboard with those sort of variations.
Another good thing about the set, they got rid of baseball executives. There is no Ford Frick to start off the set and no Warren Giles, either.
