I mean no offense but these kinds of offerings, IMHO, are reflective of sheer madness. They are modern widgets. It's the quick buck and out of the coiin market, it seems to me. If you are smart/lucky enough to hit...good for you. However, at some point, down the road, folks are going to be left, I think, holding the bags on these kinds of issues.
Oh gawd, them is some fonky coins there. Now why did they have to make them in Gold? If they had made them in Silver, the price would be more reasonable. More collectors could get on board. Speculators could buy em by the hundreds.
I just got off the phone and I got the usual Mint run-a-round. I called twice. The first time I called, I got transferred twice and the final person I talked too said there was no 46 coin box. It was a typo.
I called back. The person I talked to this time (no transfers) said flatly, the 46 coin box is only available with the proof coins.
I'm wondering if I should try and again and see if I get another answer?
But seriously, who does one contact to "suggest" that the 46 coin box should be available to the unc buyers as well. Mint Customer service in Plano? There's only a $76 difference between the uncs and proofs this year, spread that out over 10 years and that box gets pretty pricy.

I go back and forth playing the guessing game with the mint so I usually just order one of each. (proof/unc coins) However, this offering for most, is a very pricey undertaking. For a flipper, this could be the best thing going, as First Strikes go.
I'll bet two rolls of toilet paper that these pieces will be one of the best FS™ deals since First Strike's inception. I only see $10 gold half ouncers from the WIVE's CLUB as being inclusive for women into numismatics with something more than a widget. After all, women are the true consumers in our country, no ? I say these are going up, up, and away. That's how I see it. Now with the Buffalo Run and Platinum anniversary sets, the mint is ensuring that all men and women remain equally confused this year.
What if you buy all you can of these, with the expectation that they increase dramatically in a few years, and miss the 10th Anniversary Platinum later this year?
Is there going to be a 10th anniversary platinum set... one designated and marketed as such? Or is this speculation?

Speculation based on a Mint survey that asked customers about whether the set should include 2 half oz coins or 3 half oz. coins. Questions like that.
I had a subscription for 3 sets of proofs. I canceled. They may have potential to flip but I have no desire to collect them.
They look like interesting coins but for some reason I'm just not "feeling it". Perhaps if they were Silver or if there was a silver version then they would fit in with the rest of my collection.
Question. If I buy a subscription for two sets, can I then decide at a leter point to only cancel, or return one set, or do I have to return both sets? If so, I would need to order one subsription twice.

If I were you, I'd cancle my order for two sets, then put in two separate orders for one set.

Good point. On the otherhand, once your items from a subscription are shipped you get a new order number just as if it was a regular order so I would assume our previous experience would hold.
I stand corrected. I misunderstood the definition of partial returns.

I don't believe that that hapened before & I also believe the subscription may be sold out, but the issue is not. I'm sure if that is the case, the Mint will put them up for sale for the general public to get a shot at them.............

I tried the link at the beginning of the thread, thinking maybe that would work. No dice; the sets are shown as "Not Available", so I assume the subscription limit has been reached. I doubt that that's the total mintage of 40,000, though; probably just 10,000 or 20,000 sets were reserved for subscriptions.
Bob Lecce just told me that the Mint told him that they are cancelling all orders and starting over. Sheeeesh! TD

It probably cost the Mint too much to provide the cases for all of the sets sold by subscription.
Now we'll have a popularity contest. Martha Washington, Dolley Madison, and the Jefferson coins will be big sellers, but who's interested in most of the 19th century first ladies? The interesting twist to it is this: you would expect the coin for Millard Fillmore's wife to be a low demand coin, but the very fact that people expect it to be a scarcer coin may have just the opposite effect. There could also be some types that are much scarcer in either proof or MS format than others.
I think these coins have some investment potential, more for their gold content than anything else. Mintages of 40,000 per coin make them more common than most classic commems (and some modern gold commems) . I'll be interested in seeing if the program is completed, so that all of the first ladies are honored. Ditto with the presidential dollar program. If the paper dollar continues to be printed, dollar coins will never circulate, and will be little more than tokens sold only to collectors like the Kennedy halves and Sacagawea dollars of recent years.
This, my friends is how the US Mint goes about killing the Goose that lays a golden egg! Couldn't get the details right at the beginning, so they rushed the product out with a subscription that most likely was ordered in droves, and THEN started to see the implications of their action. I'm almost sure the small pricing difference between the proof set and Uncirculated set did the subscription in. The presentation display box alone would have gobbled up the $70 some odd price difference. So they got it wrong, are now in the process of cancelling 1000's of orders, and are about to have 1000's of disgruntled Mint customers that will not reorder this program. Like a fool, I'll still be there when the single options are offered, but I sure was looking forward to the complete box sets!
