The RedSox are my 2nd favorite team (behind the Mariners) and I believe they have a great shot to take it all this year. I don't know that I'm totally sold on Dice-K, but Schilling & Beckett s/b rock solid. They've got off to such a great start and Man-Ram hasn't even started to heat up yet. Barring injury, I think they are a shoe-in to at least take the AL. And, it looks like they may have a good shot at signing Clemens and that would just be the icing on the cake. Can you imagine a rotation of Clemens, Schilling, Beckett & Dice-K with Pappelbon closing? Man, that sounds freaking wicked!

Pap had an off night. Velocity was off about 3-4 mph, and he was not able to effectively locate his pitches. I guess he is human, but let's hope this is just a one or two time thing over the course of the season.

I agree. He can't save every game, and it seemed like he was really off last night. But you know that it was the exception, not the rule - and I'd rather get these type of losses out of the way in May rather than September.

As far as Clemens goes, I'm not so sure I want him on the team at this point. Apparently there is an article that says that if he had to choose today from one of his three choices, he would choose the Red Sox. But the Yanks will raise the price on him to such a level that you wonder if anyone is worth that much money - for half a season, in the AL East, at age 44. This isn't the weak NL Central anymore, and Clemens might be in for a surprise back in a tough division. I'd rather let Lester come back for the 5 spot (the A's are also looking to move Harden, imagine that?) and let the Yanks or Houston throw stupid money at Roger.

I wouldn't complain if Roger signed with the Red Sox. I bet Wakefield would even be willing to take on a long reliver/spot starter role when Lester comes back too. However, I feel a little put off by Roger's wait and see attitude. If it's true that he would sign with the Sox right now I think it's only because they have the best record of his three top choices. It feels pretty mercenary to me. In the end I'm sure he'll end up with the Yankees and he'll help them make it to the postseason. I think the Yankees need him more than Boston and Houston at this point. The Yanks can't catch a break with their pitching . . . unless, of course, you're talking about breaking legs.

My feelings on Clemens are simple, if he generally wants to pitch for the Sox then sign him, however if he is looking to get in a bidding war between us and New York then forget it. He is still a very capable pitcher and I would rather him than Tavares for sure.

It was nice to see Paplebon look bad image Hopefully he can't handle a full season of closing again. Too bad the first truly good night for Yankee fans was tempered by the kid Hughes pulling his hamstring after a masterful performance.

Now that's more like it! Another nice performance by Beckett also, to go to 6-0.

Also, now we are seeing how smart the non-signing of Damon really was. Last year, I kept pushing for Crisp to have a strong season, but too many nagging injuries slowed him, and Damon had the one decent year we thought he would. But, now Crisp is coming on - 8 game hitting streak, and another fantastic catch tonight, while Damon is breaking down as expected. The guy is constantly hurt, and it's doubtful he will ever be the same "idiot" we had for so long in Boston. Theo again makes the right call.

Who is Damon? Yes, it is nice to see Crisp making a contribution. I doubt he will get to the level of a 20/30 guy like I thought at first, but lets take steps here and say he is proving our "possible bust" theory wrong maybe? If he continues to stay healthy and chip in things will be fine.

    Another thing.....

Way to go SOX!! Great win tonight, Papelbon gets rested after last nights festivities and Timlin gets some confidence building work.

Do you guys find it at least a wee bit troubling that the Red Sox have to tip toe through the tulips with Paplebon when it comes to possible multiple days work? I mean, we are barely out of April and every time he does not have to pitch it seems like Sox nation breathes a sigh of relief.

A eight game hitting streak and Cocco THE BUST Crisp is hitting .250? Please, calm down on the hot air about how "smart" the Sox were with that move. Yes Damon is hurting and he had MORE then a "decent" season last year. Crisp would have to "produce" like he does for three years to match Damon's season last year image I love how you think that Crisp having the possibly best 8 games of his less then pedestrian career is somehow supposed to propel him? Not a chance ...... he stinks at the plate. So Damon is hurting recently and THAT is thought of how he will be for the future? SPIN CITY !

Through all of Damons nicks this early season he has 1 less hit then THE BUST and 1 less extra base hit then THE BUST which INCLUDES Crisps 8 game hitting streak. Crisp is awful ..... unless the AL institutes a designated FIELDER

Nah, we just dont want him overworked like last year. We will need him this year come late October.

I hear ya Paul but how old is he? When Mo was his age he was pitching two and three innings at a time and on multiple days. I know, I know, don't compare Paplebon to Mo ..... thats not fair.

Not fair to either one of them actually but I hear ya' Hey I wont lie, last years shoulder issue concerned us all, it might never be an issue again but it does cross my mind from time to time and prolly will all year. If it is not an issue this season then it might not be brought up again.

In his last seven games, Coco Crisp has hit .393 (11-for-28) - let's take another look at this at the end of the season, Dan. I know it doesn't seem possible, after all - everyone in the media has written Crisp off already - but he will have a better season than traitor Damon. You heard it here first.

Papelbon's fine, but of course there is concern over his usage due to last season. But, he started this season in spring training throwing starter's innings, and then switched back to closer duties near the end, so his arm may be adjusting to that. I want to see him out there every time there is a lead, but no smart manager will risk his reliever's health like that in 2007, not just Papelbon, but any top notch closer. You don't see Torre using Rivera for three games in a row - oops, sorry...they would actually have to be leading three games in a row for that to happen.

image you are right about that!

Jerry, I was talking about when Mo was Papelbons age. There was NEVER talk about having to rest him, don't over use him, he can't pitch three days in a row, he can't pitch more then one inning per outing, he can't, he can't, he can't. Hell Rivera used to save both ends of double headers. Now, again, I realize I shouldn't be putting PAP next to Rivera but I wondered if you guys are a bit concerned that the Sox walk on egg shells around this guy ...... already.

Even if Damon does flop out this year Jer, it won't make that wet noodle swinging BUST Crisp any better of a ballplayer. image

Whoa - its way too early to bail on Drew! Cmon, we're not like Yankee fans - let's give the guy a chance. He was the hottest hitter on the club most of April, and has only slowed down the last week, when he has been ill. He'll put up solid numbers this season.

Front page of the Boston Herald this morning I saw it after staring at Giselle for about 5 minutes then I realized the hat. No big deal, he brings us enough championships to let that slide.

Dan you are correct, 5 inning's, 6 runs, 5 bb is hardley overpowering for sure, he definately needs to show us more next outing. I am cautiously optimistic that it was just a bad outing and he caught a hot hitting Mariners team.

On another note..... LETS SEE SOME LATE INNING HEROICS!
