I can't imagine not displaying my collection. I have three displays on my walls for my 57 set and I constantly look at them while I am on the PC or just sitting at my desk. If they were in storage, then they would be just be a pile of plastic slabs. I don't have a digital camera so I can't show you what they look like.
Steve, I agree 100%. When I decided to get back into card collecting I decided to build some cases to display them in. I installed lighting, plexiglass and security for all of them (with IP camera's when the security system is activated). Even with all that I'm still nervous they will get stolen so I'm getting a separate insurance policy for them (locking them in a safe deposit seems smarted doesn't it).
Here's one of the cases. If you look closely you'll see some of the more expensive cards are copies. I'll put the real ones in once I get insurance!!

TJMAC - thanks for the reply. I feel better about missing out on the Roops albums now . The new ones are nice, I just hadn't counted on the 6 of them needing the space of 8 of my old binders .

Steve, I agree about displaying your collection. To each there own, but I would not collect if I could not display at least a portion of my collection. I did take out collectors insurance and do have an alarm system for added protection. Also, my display cases are easy to take off the wall, if I have someone coming over that I don't want to see my stuff.
Quite an empressive collection!!!!!! I really impressed with the Clemens cards!!!! I am an avid Clemens collector. I can't display my collection as 90% of it is in alblumns. With 2200 + DIFFERENT cards it would be hard to display.
Are you trading/selling any of your Clemens? I'm trying to collect every card through 1999 and have a want list for 1994-1999. These are pretty hard to find cards and I wouldn't be surprised if you have some? LMK if you'd like to look at my want list!!
Brian48, did you buy your Brady rookies before or after he became a star? I'm curious because I had the chance to buy his stuff before he became a star (after his first big game) and unfortunately (as I will forever kick myself), did not take the offer. You have an absolutely awesome collection - how much does an Orr PSA 8 like that go for? Are you cornering the market on that Clemens Desert Storm?

ps...you can put the cards on your homeowners policy and a close circuit camera system works well also! go to your local "spy" shop for the camera set up...

Keep all of them in shoeboxes (hard top loaders) with PSAs laying on top. I just love these boxes for storage: small, compact, and easy to keep organized. However, now that I have several in PSA holders, I'm kinda screwed... Sure, a couple fit great on top but that's only so many. I've been using shoeboxes for YEARS and have a routine. Now, I have to find something comparable for PSA holders. The only thing I can do is take out the divider and lay them flat (they are too tall to stand up right, if that makes sense).
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
I have camera's recording based on motion. However, I only record the entry/exit to the room. My wife and kids didn't like me recording all the activity in the room (go figure). I will check with the insurance company tomorrow. I was told that they only insure up to $2k in cards.
I took new pictures of the room today. I'll post them tomorrow.
Dan, I really like how you have your collection laid out. A great selection of prewar and 1940's and 50's stars. I also like how you have the statues mixed in. Thanks for sharing.

BCW has boxes made of exactly the same material, folded just like shoeboxes, that are tall enough to accomodate PSA graded slabs. They're a touch longer than most regular shoeboxes, and they're only a single row, rather than 2 or 3 side by side, but other than that, they're just as stackable and they would go along with all of your other shoeboxes.

Normally I have my graded coins in this display case, but my son wanted to show some of the GU and auto's that we have. Now I just need to find somewhere to hang it.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
They are double bagged and yes they are very sturdy. 2 pushes in the same hole are the max though. I have never lost one. Been up for a couple of years. It maximizes my space to every square inch of my small 9 x 12 room office/collectibles room.
Dave, I like your layout. Do you have the whole 1956 Topps set? It looks like you have quite a collection.

I picked up the Bradys right after he started to become popular, but before he became a Football GOD. Dunno about the PSA 8 Orr, but the whole set is just in beautiful condition. If I had the funds, I'd probably send the whole thing in for grading. The '73-74 set is the same way. They look like they came right out of the pack.
Regarding the Clemens Desert Shield, you betcha! I actually have a few more, but I haven't gotten around to sending them in yet for grading. It's my favorite card.
Did you do the work on that room yourself or did you have a contractor do it. Either way what was the framing specs. I am assuming that it isnt standard 2x4 but 2x6 framing instead. I would love to know some of the details as we plan on finishing the basement and plan on doing a lot of built in storage, bookcases etc.

I designed the room (I'll show the theater room next). I didn't want the basement windows to stand out so I decided to build the cases below. I did all the trim work and built the custom cases. All the cases have a alarm and video hooked up to them.
