and since steady eddie is so respected and well known on these boards, we know he wouldnt do that ala Gary....
I just finished my top 30 with the addition of the 1968 Nolan Ryan rookie. I am very pleased with the appearance of this card. It is a strong 5. Here is where I stand now:
1956 - 10/30 - I thought I had 11, but actually have 10. 1957 - 1/30 1958 - 14/30 1959 - 30/30 1960 - 2/30 1961 - 30/30 1962 - 16/30 1963 - 26/30 - Need Clemente, Aaron, Fox and Cepeda 1964 - 30/30 1965 - 7/30 1966 - 28/30 - Only need Perry and McCovey 1967 - 29/30 - The prices on the Seaver are going up and up. I would like to get one soon. 1968-1980 - 30/30 1981 - 28/30 - Still need Niekro and Stargell 1982 - 29/30 - Only need Yaz. 1983-1985 - 30/30
I just knocked off my top 30 for 1966 Topps. I needed the two tough high numbers Willie McCovey (PSA 7) and Gaylord Perry (PSA 6). I am pleased with both cards.
Here is where I stand now:
1956 - 11/30 - Just picked up a PSA 6 Ford. 1957 - 1/30 1958 - 14/30 1959 - 30/30 1960 - 2/30 1961 - 30/30 1962 - 16/30 1963 - 27/30 - Need Aaron, Fox and Cepeda 1964 - 30/30 1965 - 7/30 1966 - 30/30 - 1967 - 29/30 - Just Need Seaver 1968-1980 - 30/30 1981 - 28/30 - Still need Niekro and Stargell 1982 - 29/30 - Only need Yaz. 1983-1985 - 30/30
How are you displaying these, is each year in one of the 30 card frames? If so, that's a lot of dollars and wall space... but, damn, that would look killer once completed!
HOFer's from the 50's and 60's, cant go wrong there. You also get lot more bang for the buck with PSA 6 cards that are just as presentable as an PSA 8. I think i'll be going your route very soon. Thanks for the scans.
Thanks Ladder. I am quite pleased with the collection I have amassed and enjoy sharing them with others. What good is collecting if you can't share it with others who appreciate it.
Snorto, I wish I had enough cases and wall space to display every year from 1956-1985. That would be a beautiful presenation. However, I have only 4 cases right now and rotate years out periodically. I have room for a few more and will eventually put one up from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and create a couple misc cases of PSA graded rookies and high dollar cards.
Mike, I agree about collecting PSA 5, 6, & 7's they present well and are an affordable way to find presentable examples of Hofers and Superstars.
Took the family to our 1st Dodger game in 06. Martin hit his 1st HR so as soon as I got back I found his 2005 Bowman Draft card had many variations so I went after them, and stuff related to the card/day.
Futures jersey (not game worn),program and UDA ball signed and inscribed 1st HR and date.
<< <i>Nice Marin stuff. I can't believe there are that many variations of one card. Which one is the rarest? >>
Thanks.
I have 8 1/1 patches,2 Red 1/1's and 4 printing plate 1/1's.
The rarest I would say is the one I need. The Superfractor. It's a 1/1 and Superfractors are though of as "the card". Hoping it's not in someones collection I hunt for it alot and recently began buying boxes to look for it. Since there are other bigger names in the set the boxes cost between $160-180. Ugh.
The second to last row, with the autos, are 2006 Bowman Originals buyback autos and there is a /2 and according to Beckett, there is another colored jersey auto as well.
There's 4 plates I need and I think around 10 more of those tag cards.
The "big" auto one is a IP (not by me) and all the rest were avail. in packs.
I decided not to post most of the more common ones, but I wanted to show off some of the cooler ones I have: If anyone can help me to improve my collection, PLEASE contact me.
Nice Garvey collection, he was one of my favorite players as a kid! I was looking at the Garvey player registry and the #1 guy seems to have a solid hold on that spot.
Great looking Garvey collection. He was one of my favorites growing up too. I always think he has a lot of great photos on his cards especially the 1972, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980 Topps.
I just started a new collecting project to go along with my 30 PSA graded baseball cards from 1956-1985. I am now going to do 18 PSA football cards of stars and HOFers from 1957-1979. I am starting with the 70's. I
I am uploading these into my photobucket and thought I would share them. I started about a month and a half ago. bought the Jim Brown as part of a lot of other cards. I could not resist the price for a PSA 7. I am still buying baseball too, but wanted to branch out into another area.
I just saw McGwire in Huntington Beach earlier this week. I was in the Starbucks getting a latte, and he came in and was right behind me, I said hello, told him he was a heck of a player, and asked if I could buy him a coffee. He declined, but ordered a white milk. Was on his way to play golf! Anyway, Nice guy, great player, I hope he isn't stained by that congressional testimony of a few years ago.
MBMiller, cool story. Dont be surprised if he pops up on the Senior PGA Tour...he is very good at golf as well. That was his main passion in High School before his Junior year
I have only been a member of these boards since August of this year, but I took the time tonight to read every post on this thread. This is a cool thread that I have thoroughly enjoyed, just wish some of the pictures of guys collections, had not been removed from their photobucket accounts. Thanks to everyone for showing your collections, I really enjoyed looking at them.
Jason, the US mint also put out commemorative Robinson coins in 1997, $5 gold and $1 silver. They also put out a collector set with a card, patch, and pin. By the way, his wife was at the first strike ceremony as well. In addition, he was awarded a congressional gold medal in 2005 (presented to his wife), of which you can buy bronze duplicates from the Mint, or on ebay of course. Here are some pics.

That is one nice (and expensive) set! I wish I would have bought that when it came out. I would love to get my hands on those one day. Thanks for sharing!
<< <i>Jasoneggert, that's what I'm looking to do. Two black curio cabinets. Nice!!!! Where'd you get those? >>
I bought the first one at a local furniture store, cost about $600, I then did a search online and found one for like $400. I can't remember where online I got it, but do remember they took FOREVER to get it to me. I think like 7 weeks.
If you do a search for Pulaski 20819 you can find them online, prices are all over the map.
I highly recommend these cases. The door slides to either direction and there are lights at the top, and they lock.
Here's a pic of all of my raw Ripkens (in top loaders) and PSA Ripkens. I realize it's not very exciting to see just a bunch of boxes with the top edge of the cards showing, but at the time I thought it was cool to see them all together. It's over 3400 raws, and almost 300 PSAs.
Wow, great looking collections. Perk thanks for the compliment. I was careful to be well rounded in my player selection, but I have a tendency to go towards QB's and running backs. Those 52's look great! I am not real familiar with that era of football, but when I was researching what players to pick for my collection, I had the opportunity to read about some of those guys on the Sporting News Top 100 NFL Players.
I really like the Hockey collection. The 71-72's are one of my favorite sets. I also like the Basketball from that year. Too bad they didn't make a football and baseball set with that design.
I would never have the discipline to amass a collection of one player. However, Cal Ripken is a good choice. His cards should always be popular.
Great looking Robinson collection. That 52 Topps would be the highlight of most collections.
<< <i> Great looking Robinson collection. That 52 Topps would be the highlight of most collections. >>
Thanks! I was lucky to get it about 2 years ago for $650, a steal at that price. I could not believe my wife told me to go for it. At that point I had never bought a card for more than $250!
Mike, i love the auto Cowboy helmets . From what i can see you have Aikman , Irvin , Ware , Waters , and TO . Whats the one under Ware with the big B ?
I dont care for Hockey at all and dont even follow the sport but always thought the 54-55 Topps Hockey set is one of the most beautifull sets made- very nice collection and great looking cards.

my sets
I am not a hockey guy, but if the 54 topps baseball looked like that hockey set I would rival the 52 topps!
That's an awesome display you have. Very well done.
For anyone that's interested, IKEA has these display cabinets available for $59.95.

Nice Robinson collection.
I'm not big on football, but those older cards are wonderfully colorful and artistic.
