Alright who is smillsap?? Outbid me on some cards!! Oh well, next time.

Edit: Looks like he is bidding on all those 10s??
  • Options
smillsap has pretty much outbid everyone on those 10s. He/she is all over those 10s. New buyer?

Well, if they want to bid, bid, bid then they can have em.....eventually more will show up.....at least for the one's I've seen...maybe not 10's but nice looking 9's that would make fine additions to each of our sets....now if it was that Fitzgerald card, that is another story.....Great hit Arny on that one!!!

Thanks Al! I really thought that the Fitzgerald had an outside shot at a 9, so I sent it as a gamble. The gamble paid off. I pulled that one and a couple of others out of a box that I picked up about a year ago and the Guidry and a couple of others were from the '84 Donruss one box rip that we had a couple of months ago.

You know, I'm not sure about this "new" bidder to the '84 Donruss 10s. I don't know....just a little suspicious that I would have every card that I'm bidding on outbid and that his feedback has some questionable things about it.

I'm steering clear of these and hope that we actually have a new competitor in the '84 race rather than a buyer/seller doing some questionable things.

Arny... you raise an interesting question ... he certainly seems to have come out of nowhere --- and only for Larryvan's auctions ....

in the last 30 days, he has only bid on 35 items ---- ALL Larryvan auctions in the past few days.

something fishy might be going on here.

honestly... the more I think of this, the more I'm convinced we're looking at some sort of shill/pre-arrangement.

If he was a new buyer, why wouldn't he have bid on any of the other 10's from other sellers in the past few days. PSARegistryGems and others have been selling 10's this week ..... but no interest from smillsap.

    I'm definitely confused.

A few questions for you 84ers.
How much does an unopened 84 Donruss wax box run?
What type of results can I expect from a rip of a box?

    Thanks for any comments.

Yes, this is getting weird, some of those PSA 10s are going for $25+ I don't get it though if he wanted to run up the prices why not let someone else win them at some of the higher prices and not just have the shill bidder win everything??

I don't think this is too far out of the ordinary..........when Larryvan jumped in last year, he was paying very strong prices out the gate. Same with Steveooo(?) and Bobbisoxer years ago. When a decision is comfortably made to take on a set, some collectors hit it extremely hard, at least in the beginning. I'll bet if you could review all years of cards with someone long term in the corresponding set, you'd find the same thing - some newbies into these respective sets will undoubtably 'nail' all cards.

    ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,246
Kirk, the Staub card is a tough one to find even in a 9 from my experience. So, a 10 being in the $50-60 range, doesn't seem that high compared to the fact that the higher pop 10s can and do end in the $25-30 range at times.

Morty is the one that usually has them for that price. Can't remember his eBay seller ID off the bat, but it's like Morty24 or something like that.

    piman,
i busted 2 wax boxes in the last 2 weeks. i've got 100+ cards from the 2 to send in. one box was definitely better than the other. netted 3 carters (all OC btw) and 3 mattinglys (1 oc). i'll let you know the results when posted. fingers are crossed.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Idferg, look forward to seeing your grades.

That Horner card is up for auction again by Larryvan?? I myself will not bid on it. Wonder what happened?? Does this Larryvan base his shipping costs on the grade of the card?? $7.50 for a PSA 10 84 Donruss Allen.
  • Options
FYI - I have purchased some Reds items for larryvan (Jeff) in the past and his usual shipping policy a card like the Horner is that it includes the insurance on the card.
  • Options
    alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
Not sure exactly but still think $7.50 for a card would be high unless the card sold for a lot....isn't insurance about $1.30 per hundred up to about $500...just my thoughts...

    Okay.... SpahnFan, you're in ...

Thinking we get one box and split it 4 ways -- like last time.

Box is $160 + shipping to me + shipping to other participants.

Cost should be in the $43-50 range I would think for a quarter box per person.

If no one else wants in, I'd split a half box with you.
