    Okay,

the 84 Donruss Box Bust is FULL:

    1. Blindflyer
    2. Spahnfan
    3. ArnyVee
    4. Al Navman

I'm not positive on exact cost, but when Arny put it together last time it was $50 per person.

If you want to pay via paypal and not use a credit card, I have a personal paypal account that won't charge fees. I'm going to order the box in the next day or so. Hold off on paying me until I get the exact cost and figure it all out.

If you want to pay with a check, PM me and i'll shoot over my address.

    Looking forward to this!

I wish I could do the box thing, but I am on a tight budget. Let us know how it goes. Did that ebayer win all of larryvan's auctions??

thanks for winning my auctions guys!

i noticed that larryvan's auctions of the same cards as mine went for more $$$, the friggin staub went for $61.00, but mine sold for half that!

is the person who was paying the premiums for those cards from larryvan a cu member?

everybody's cards went out today, except arny, who hasn't paid yet.

I do not believe this smillsap or whatever his/her name is that won those is a member of CU. I was hoping to win that Lansford too, but was out bid on that one. Oh well, I did get another 10 for the the set!! I see you have some others out there for auction. But you have to be quick or Arny will beat you to the punch on bidding.image

Larry's stuff was seemingly shilled. It just doesn't seem right that those cards went for those prices and all of us were outbid by one guy with questionable feedback. You'd think that he'd want his stuff to sell rather than get a reputations as a 'shiller'.

Kirk, I bid quick on those puppies! LOL

That was my thought, if you are going to shill, why not bid them up to a point where we still might think on bidding on them and not making them out of range of what these cards typically sell for??

I recently won a box on ebay for $103 including shipping and am waiting patiently for its arrival.

Good luck with that box from eBay Piman!

I'm also pretty leery about buying from eBay with regards to wax boxes. Too many horror stories for my blood. I'd rather pay another $20 or $30 to Steve and ensure that I have a solid and unsearched product on my hands.

But, I have to say that I have bought one box in the past from eBay and the results were decent. So, it's not all bad.

I bought the box from cgalbsgo. Feedback was 23 and 96%.
All prior feedback was from before mid-July 2006.

Yes I am a gambler. The box has arrived and is in very good condition.
The packs are also in good condition. I am a novice at being able to identify
if a pack has been resealed, so the break will tell me if the packs have been
    searched or not.

I will be breaking tonight and will post results as well as scans of all the
Mattinglys, Ripkens, Carters, and Gwynns I pull.

Are their any commons I should be looking for that are tough to find in a 10?

Here are some numerical results from the box break.

Not including the 36 built-in wax stained cards there are 504 cards.

    There were 28 HOFs. (5.6%)
On a quick sort of L-R centering 140 appeared to be close to 50/50 witht he naked eye. (27.8%)
Another 192 fell into the range 60/40 to 70/30 range for L-R. (38.1%)

The break brought 2 each of Mattingly, Gwynn, Seaver, and Smith.
Ryan, Rose, Brett, Palmer, Jackson, Ripken, Molitor, Boggs, Carew, and Carlton also were in the break.

    Scans will follow later tonight.

    2 mattinglys in one box?

yes, i pulled 3 from 2 boxes as well (each box came from different sources). the box that yielded 2 were pulled within 4 packs of each other at the end of my box rip. the box that had 2 were centered fairly well, the other was not but the corners were sweet. the 2 better ones have been submitted.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

    *** 84 Box Bust Update ***

All 3 packages are packed and ready for Monday shipment. I plan on shipping priority mail (from California) -- you guys should get them on Wed!

It's 5:00 AM out here and I've been up all night --- mostly organizing cards.

When I cracked our box and began packing your packages, my complete lack of self control kicked in. In a flurry of madness, I had 9 pack wrappers and stale gum scattered all over my living room floor. My portion of the bust is complete.

    Some obversations:
    1. A few packs had some cards with corner dings. I didn't count them specifically, and it could have just been my brick.
    2. Centering overall is really fantastic. Pleasantly surprised here.
    3. I didn't pull hardly any star power --- so you guys are in luck!
    4. I'm in love with '84 Donruss. Is there a cure for this disease?

    GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Here was the "Star Power" from my 9 packs...

    image

The Carter and Chicken were actually both fun pulls --- but both are O/C and not gradeable. Very few stars overall in my 9 packs. That likely means that the other 27 packs are LOADED.

    Lucky ba$tards!

Gwynn, and Ryan both 10's, and Rose and Ripken were both 9's. Cards were mailed out on Friday, the 26th., so hopefully will receive in a couple of days. Will attempt to post pics of the first 5 when they arrive. 86nova--- Craig

Craig, great job on those 10s! Wow!

Kirk, I like the fact that there are lots of buyers for the '84 Donruss, but it sucks when you try and get a card that you think you have all sewn up to only get outbid at the last second by an unknown or inconsistent buyer. image

Had it happen with me on the Milt Wilcox PSA 9 card recently. I needed that card outright and someone took it from me image

I saw you bidding on that Wilcox card. There seems to be quite a few low pops in PSA 10 out there, but I am leary about paying high prices for a 1 of 1 or 1 of 2 when there is still some unopened material out there. Not sure the premium on these low pop cards are justified??
  • Options

    gentleman,

i noticed there are lots of low pop psa 10's out there on e-bay. do you guys think in a year from now there will be NO 1/1 psa 10's for any card in this set? seems like saturation is setting in for this set and there is obviuosly a really HIGH demand for these cards right now.

if i were collecting this set, i would consider tracking and patience, versus jumping into a bidding war w/ some yahoo over a card that may not be 1/1 in a year from now?

regardless, you guys rock & i am sending your cards out today kirk!

Thanks, I did not get a chance to check my winnings or I would have paid earlier. I am sure not going to go bid crazy for a low pop 10 at this point. There are too many cards that I need and I just does not make sense.
  • Options
    ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,246
Unless it's a card that I need outright for my set, I definitely go with the 'wait and see' approach on most of these 10s. If I pick up a few under or at around $20, I'll take 'em as upgrades to my set. But, it makes sense to wait and have patience because even though there isn't a ton of this product out there, there is still unopened product. And, still a chance that more of these 1/1s or 1/2s will pop another 2 or 3 of each.

    We'll see, I guess. image
