The Official 2007 TOPPS HERITAGE Thread

Just because there's not much else going on. I was actually a little underwhelmed with the 2006 set (maybe they went a little too far with the washed out color), but I think the 2007 set, assuming they do 1958-style cards, will be unexpectedly popular, at least in my house.

So if anyone gets any news on this set, composition, release dates, etc., post here. I was disappointed there was nothing in Previews this month, which previews releases 3 months out and often has the earliest info on cards.
WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

Nothing on ebay

Would they do without the backgrounds?

I personally like backgrounds - the people in the stands, the cars...

But I too am jonesing for the 2007 set since I'm a diehard Redbirds fan. It will be my first non-vintage purchase.

Heritage baseball 2001-2006. Regarding the PSA population report, which card from those years has been submitted the most times for grading? I was mildly surprised. I would have guessed the 01 Ripken, which is not correct. 86nova

sometime in the future I believe these cards will become popular with set collectors and be graded...prolly when they complete their run...

I have only one card graded and thats a 2001 Ripken BGS 9...probably be a 9.5 now they way they grade, but I would probably damage
that card getting it out. The cards shipped so easily.

PS Craig...its good to see you around!!!

Any idea if Topps plans on "ending" the run of Heritage anytime soon. I love the product. I've collected every set since 2002 and hope to take a stab at the '07 set too.

Topps will continue this set for a long time. It costs them nothing to make and always sells well. If it was up to them they would have
all their products be like this. The only thing Im a little disappointed with is that every year the auto sets gets harder to pull and
more watered down. I could see somewhere down the road a big heritage guy like me only opening a few boxes and waiting to
purchase a full or partial set online.

I think this thread could use some real 58 scans...anyone a big 58 set builder??

    Thanks

Not a fan of 58s, no backgrounds, boring IMO!!

That's what I thought they looked like, I was wondering what backrounds jskrwin was talking about. It might be boring but I think I like it....
On the Yankee Bandwagon since April 22nd, 1979 (my first game).

This is going to be a great set. The backgrounds aren't important....I actually like the bright colors....this will be similar to the 2003 Heritage set in that respect.

And the 2008 Heritage ('59) is going to be killer too.
  • Options
Hopefully they do a good job with the poses. Looking at some of the'58's on Ebay, it is clear that a lot of the cards have boring mug shots....hopefully they mix in a lot of good batting and pitching "action" shots.

The kicker will be the dual player cards. If topps has done their homework they will be able to deliver on this. That would be awesome.

So Arod will be card #1 and Bonds #5?

    1958 had:
33 yellow & white name variations, including Aaron (Andruw Jones?), Clemente (Bay?), Kaline (Sheffield?)
team cards have checklists on back
#13 Billy Hoeft has three total variations
#37 , 188, 236 - player's names do not match the photo on the card
Braves, Tigers, Orioles and Reds have checklist variations (numerical & alphabetical)
    #433 has a spelling variation (Pancho Herrer"a")
#475-495 are All-Star cards - I would think Topps would definitely reproduce these
Felt emblems subset - possible box toppers here?

    Multiplayer cards:
#289 Series Rivals - Burdette & Shantz = Carpenter & Verlander or Rogers?
    #304 Tigers Big Bats - Kaline & Kuenn = Inge & Monroe?
    #314 Dodgers Boss & Power - Alston & Snider = Little & Kent?
    #321 Sluggers Supreme - Kluszewski & Williams = Howard & Ortiz?
    #334 Mound Aces - Friend & Pierce = Webb & Santana?
#351 Braves' Fence Busters - Aaron, Crandall & Mathews = Chipper, Andruw & Giles?
#386 Birdies' Young Sluggers - Robinson, Bailey & Tebbets (do the Orioles have an current young sluggers? Might be a different team here
    #418 World Series Foes - Mantle & Aaron = IRod & Pujols?
    #436 Rival Fence Busters - Mays & Snider = Howard & Pujols?

    Star parallels:
    #1 Williams = Ortiz (again)
#5 Mays = Bonds (if he comes back to the Giants - if not, then who?)
    #30 Aaron = A. Jones
    #52 Clemente = Bay
    #70 Kaline = Casey
    #88 Snider = Kent
#117 Frank Torre = Joe Torre
#150 Mantle = ARod or Jeter
#187 Koufax = Billingsley (young up & coming Dodger pitcher just like Koufax at that point in his career)
    #230 Ashburn = Howard
    #270 Spahn = Smoltz
    #285 F. Robinson = Griffey
    #310 Banks = Aramis Ramirez
    #370 Berra = Posada

Thoughts? Let's flesh this out and try to predict what Topps will end up with.

I can't wait for the 2037 Heritage. image

Even though the 1988 Topps cards will be 49 years old, probably a 2037 Heritage common will STILL be worth more than a 1988 Topps star card!

I do not see any SPs listed on the pre-sale sheet. Do they normally show the odds? Are they using the increased number of inserts in lieu of the SPs?

Once again, like last year - I hope those aren't the actual borders?

I hope you all allow me to voice my opinion over this info. I have talked it over with another heritage buddy of mine and
we have come to the same conclusion. This product looks weak.

I said the same thing last year and in part I was right. Topps has now gone through with my worst nightmare...

    OVERPRODUCTION

You dont need to be a Scientist to see that they have increased the number of boxes per case and decreased the number of chromes
per box..that only means more packs, which means all the other good stuff including the "amazing" autos will be even more
    hard to pull.

There are also some glaring changes. From what I see there will be 1/1 cards?? Also 9 Arod cards per box....this is 9 less cards
that we can use for the set, and if you consider the Arod set, part of the master set, then this set will get even more hard
and more expensive to put together. Do we really need all these Arod and Mantle cards, where the only difference is a number
    on the front?

......ok, so some might like that chase.....lets get on to autos....yes, you know, the real chase in this product.....even though they might
not say it, people ripping packs are looking for the ink...afterall it would be way cheaper just to buy a set a month into it on ebay.

The auto list is once again weak. There are only 3 big names on the retired side, and those three all sign plenty of cards. Wright and Howard
are nice additions, but everyone else is weak, and will be huge disappointments as they will most likely be case hits!

I would caution anyone from pre ordering this stuff. I think there will be plenty of supply here. If its anything like BDP baseball, topps will
LOAD up the retail stores. I would wait until more info is know, especially the auto pull odds.

The cuts are a slap in the face, considering no one has seen the three they put in last years product!

    Thanks
    Kevin

    JS 2006 Heritage prediction

Do the 2007 numbers mean that Topps increased production by 50% over last year? I think Kevin is right to predict that Topps will eventually beat this set into the ground. How many Mantles and ARods do you want? Anyone need a Mickey Mantle homerun #1 card?

That being said, I still intend to put this set together. When I really get sick of it (maybe 2008), I'll just buy a master set, and say nuts to the ripping and the gum.

I loved the A&G set and tried to start the 2006 Heritage Set, but I got the base set on ebay for $14 and then found it a little too hard to get ALL the SP's....

This year i might buy a box and collect just the players I want and trade the rest...there are too many SP's (if they countinue from last years number) and too many sub sets to really enjoy...3 case to build the set, ouch. Meanwhile 1 box, 2 blaster boxes and some trading and boom A&G is done!!!!!

A&G was a nice set, and easy for set builders. Heritage is a different beast. Heck the A&G set is probably easier to put together than
the New Age set in heritage, not to mention the master set! Every year I have 5 of 1 card and none of the other. Trading is the way
    to go.

Its hard to guage the production numbers and give a % increase, but I wouldn't doubt maybe 30% increase. That only means a watered
down product. We all know the value in this product comes from short prints, which hopefully will still be 1:2 packs, and GU and chromes.
In the past, I have recouped some of my money from chrome set builders..this really helps. 2 per box means less. I bet the refractors
won't even be one per box..that sucks.

Be cautious here, I am the first to understand that not everything is about money, but topps knows that this is a set builders set, and
can water it down and overproduce it and not alot of people will know. We need to stand by the fact that topps CAN make a product
thats fun AND worth the money.

it has to be one of Topps biggest money makers for sure....anyone notice a case has 4 more boxes this year???

Topps makes little in comparison on products like these. If you really want to see how topps and UD (for the longest time) makes money
on products, take a look at bowman originals....80.00 a pack for two autographed cards....90% of the cards in the auto set arn't worth
10 bucks, and probably cost topps maybe a few bucks a graph. Heck even a nice David Wright auto out of that product is only getting
    30 or so dollars!

High end is where the big money is at, Its much easier to make money on an 80 dollar product yielding mostly 10 dollar graphs, then
a 2.99 product with maybe 50 cents of production cost in it.

Ok, I'm in the big pool this year.
Just purchased two cases of 07s on pre-sell.
Not a bad price. It works out to $57.42 a box or $2.39 per pack.
1958s were the first set I collected as a kid and the first vintage set I put together as an adult.
Sixty-seven days to its release. Will be looking for traders to complete sets.
Hope the collation is better than last year. I bought three cases and couldn't put a complete master set together. Go figure.

One of the local card shop owners called me today. He is able to order '07 Heritage. I am getting a case from him for $675 plus 6% PA sales tax.

Comparing last year's pre-sell price of 2006 Topps Heritage per case ($488 a case, $61 a box) this year's edition ($689 a case, $57.42 a box) is less expensive. Distributors must be paying less. Does that mean Topps is printing more cards?

    Scott

I'm going to my local card shop on Saturday and see what he can do.

I'm guessing that all deals are gonna be with a buck or two of each other per box - which isn't that big a deal.

I've been here on the Heritage bandwagon the last two years and am seriously considering letting it pass me by this year. It's been fun to crack packs and trade and work on the set, but last year was less fun for me.

4 hobby boxes, and 12 blaster boxes left me with zero black refractors and zero auto's. And the Gordon card really sucked too, as I now will never "really" finish the set. Even with all the trades I did with you guys, I'm still about 10 cards short of my '06 set. And if the product is more watered down this year........

    Anyway, I may pass.

What cards you need? Maybe I can help. I have some left over.

Last year wasn't the same as the last few years, which were great sets. I think Topps muddied the art work too much and made what was the best set they ever issued into crap.

But my first year of collecting was '58 so I'm back. I really like the Howard and Morneau cards that have been displayed in the sell sheets. I liked the '58 set because you saw the players face to face, those portraits were the first real up close photos of many of the players. I don't like the checklist issued by Topps. I never cared for the refracs or the subsets. Now they are adding these silly A-rod cards, which I'll quickly dump on EBay. I'm not going to chase the Mantle cards, either.

Just like in 1958, there will not be a card #145 in the 2007 set. I wonder if Topps will sneak in a few #433 Adrian Beltr cards to mirror the 1958 #433 Pancho Herrer (Herrera) error. image

First I am still working on the 06 set and love the cards! I agree it is MUCH MUCH cheaper to buy a few boxes and have chasers sell you their cards for pennies on the dollar at the show(Sp's and base cards).

I will probably buy around 4 hobby boxes, 10 blaster boxes and will work on the thing for a year or so! I am still trying to finish 06 but it is fun to chase the cards.

I have NEVER EVER pulled a decent black refractor and one autograph(Joe Kloppenstein football).

I bought over two CASES of football heritage and man it is brutal to never get a card worth a crap other than SP's, chromes and refractors,

I could buy two jordan rookies for what I put into heritage football!

I was able to build just about 4 master sets from all my boxes and buying singles from guys who chase the autographs!

I am addicted to it and just buy the autos online(not the same as pulling them though).

I will build a 07 set for sure!

I sure do wish though my thousands of dollars I spend on wax would just once give me a special autograph once to keep forever!

My step mother got me the Joe Namath for 60.00 on ebay!

I do love the set though and am just addicted to it!

They(topps) got me right where they want me

That's a comfirmed price? Sounds pretty good. Man, those retail cases were sure nice for some last year.

Would you guys mind sharing who you are buying the retail cases from?

I want to know who is selling them for $359 a case, because that's an incredible price!

First, I tried to buy them from a distributor at $417.68 for an 8-box case, but you had to have a store and since I didn't, I couldn't.

So I bought them from the dealer I got them last year at $689 (for an 12-box case), which is $57.42 a box and $2.39 per pack.

That's better than last year when I paid approximately $61 per box ($2.54 per pack)

You're paying $395 for an 8-box case. That's $44.87 per box and $1.70 per pack!

First impulse is to buy more. Second impulse is to wonder how many cards is Topps printing.

His ebay user name is Lockwood I think or something like that. His name is John Lockwood. He has a website for non sport. You may want to look him up. I bought 2 cases of 07 and 12 blaster boxes of 06 (ya, still trying to finish my sets) for $13 each. GREAT PRICES and he has wonderful feedback.
