    Nice!
  • My dealer says tomorrow's the day - I'm contemplating taking the afternoon off work to rip - these posts are making it harder and harder not to do just that! If the first trade list gets posted before I get my case, I may lose it!

Does anyone know if the emblems will fit in a 9 pocket sleeve?

I am almost finished with my 4th box. I decided to open one of the felt team emblems to scan, and Kaboom - my dear Pirates.

Here are my favorite base cards so far. I am guessing they are base cards due to placement in the pack.

No ink so far. I love the All Star cards. It seems that almost all of them are base cards.

The top row cards are refractors. The ones on the bottom are chrome.

Jim - I've got a PM out to you, but if anyone else who has ripped can answer this question, please: What are the Group A and Group B relics? I'd like to get those indentified and start picking them off early if I can. Thanks in advance for that info.

I got shipping confirmation on my case, but it won't be here until Wednesday. image

  • OK, just finished my ripping case. Here is the breakdown:

    Autos - 1 (Bunning) image
SPs - ???? - I haven't sorted these yet, so I'm not sure of the short print number range. The yellow player name vars are easy to find, but the yellow team vars will take some investigation.
Relics - 7 Total (6 Clubhouse Collection 3 bat, 3 JSY and 1 Flashback Relic Richie Ashburn) double of Omar Vizquel bat image
    Black Chrome - 1 (JD Drew 04/58)
    Chrome Refractors - 6
    Chrome - 27
    T&N - 17
    FB - 23
    NAP - 21
    Mantle HR -46 ugh
Arod HR - 13 Why the heck did they put these in this set? They are out of place and taking the place of a chrome.

Overall impression: I am happy w/ my case. I pulled a nice auto and the cards look sweet. I love the box toppers. They were a very nice touch. I am disappointed w/ the reuse of some player photos from the 1952 Rookies and Bowman Heritage. But overall I like what I have seen so far.

Anyone have an SP list yet?

    Very nice report beef.

Thanx for taking the time to scan and post!

I really like the all-star cards and the patches!

    Congratulations on the Bunning auto.

Now, the work - sorting all that out.

I'll be interested to see how close you come to a complete set. My biggest complaint over the years - "the odd distribution of commons!"

    Good luck

ugh - I hope someone gets a firm handle on the yellow letter variations, which I don't think are part of the 495-card set. There is speculation from a guy over on the Beckett boards that there may be as many as [i/three variations of some cards??? Yikes!

I pulled a Piazza bat as well. They will all be on the trading block. I got through 7 boxes last night. I will rip the rest this evening. I should have a complete trade list this weekend or when the SP list shows up.

If it were not for all of the Mantle and ARod cards, this set would be unbeatable.

  • Using EBay as a source for uncovering SPs, etc., it seems as if there are an exorbitant number of yellow variations. In 1958, there were several yellow/white letter variations, but not as many as are appearing on EBay this morning. If Topps holds true to copying its 1958 set, watch for card No. 13. In the 1958 set it was Detroit Tiger pitcher Billy Hoeft. THis year is it not-so coincidentally, another Tiger pitcher, Wilfredo Ledezma. The Hoeft card had THREE VARIATIONS! It was very small, just a triangle by his foot.

A question for you early rippers. . .

Where is the special card in each pack? Last year it was in the middle of deck. The year before it was the second from the end. Is there a consistency this year?

  • The 5th card in the pack seems to be the key card.
  • Also, I wouldn't use eBay to get your SP list. I have seen some auctions that list cards listed as SPs, but they don't seem to be inserted at a SP rate. Some dealer may be trying to take advantage of the lack of information about the SPs. Example, folks are listing Andrew Miller and David Ortiz as SPs, but I pulled 4 each of these cards in 1 case. Then again, maybe they are and the colation sucks.

they are some nice looking cards.
  • Ok, let's try again.
I hope I am not seeing what I am seeing. If you remember the horror of the white cards from the 2006 Bowman Heritage, I am seeing the same thing on the 2007 Topps Heritage. Does anyone else see this happening ?
    I have not yet seen any TEAM white/yellow, but I have these white/yellow NAME cards 24 30 53 60 61 70 87 98

I've always liked the '58 set. The first high end single (high end for me anyway) I ever purchased was a '58 Topps Mays. I hated to part with that card. image

  • Geordie, I'll PM you over there in a few...
Are you seeing these lighter color backgrounds on some cards ?
How about card quality ? These are almost as bad as the 2006 Bowman Heritage were with off center cuts and print splatter. Man Topps needs a Quality Control Department big time....
I came up 40 cards short of a base run after opening eight boxes [ but do not know for sure what the Var's are].
THC's are very scarce refractors almost impossible... [what a bad choice by Topps of putting Mantle & A-Rod HR's innserts instead of THC's

  • The following cards seem to be short prints and or variations, feel free to add vars you have already found:

    2 - Clemens Yellow Team
    4 - Ronny Paulino
    5 - Jeter
8 - Eckstein Yellow Player Name
    11 - Mackowiak Yellow Team
    14 Abreu
13 ledezma White and Yellow Cars seem to be SPs

I will try to update this list as I go through. Its going to be along slow process.

PS David Ortiz is NOT a SP contrary to some eBya auctions - I pulled 8 of these out of my case.

  • Ok, now I see it,
Add #35 50 and 77 for white/yellow Team... There may be more...

Great list. It provided clues on where to look. It hits about 97 % with one or two differences.
I was not able though to see any differences on the Checklist variations. Maybe I don't have enough of them to find the Var's

    Thanks for the [58] list

Well. I went to the shop today. I passed on buying a whole case, but I didn't land 5 boxes. The third yielded a Red Auto Jim
Bunning!!! I great way to start the madness. A few observations so far....granted I haven't even had much time to look
at the cards and see what I have.

    1) While odds see long, I pulled a red in just my thrid box, and most of the boxes I opened had 2 chromes AND a refractor in it.
    2) The felt box toppers are REALLY nice. I will be adding these to by set. It looks like a 12 count box gets you the set, as I opened
    5 and got no dups.
    3) The Arod set is a carry over from the 07 topps set, so these will NOT be counted in on the master set.
    4) The multi player cards, which the 58 set was famous for, are in there but they look to be photo shopped by topps....I like the effort!
    5) Centering wasn't that great so far. Hopefully it will get better.

    Kevin
  • I did get dupes of my box toppers. There are sixteen in the set, so some trading will be needed if you buy a case.

  • Looking on EBay, there are different cards for autos than the set.
I saw a Ryan Howard autograph card and he was holding a bat while his card with a head shot adorns most Heritage promo sell sheets.

Congratulations on the Red Bunning Kevin!!!!

That makes everything OK - tho if ya got the case card - the other 7 boxes left behind will go to guys like Stone193! image

    Looking for the spreadsheet guys.

No one does a better job than John Basilone in that department.

    Guys,

Ths is so exciting !! This is my first Heritage experience after watching the fun for years. My first pack (top/middle of the box), 3rd card was a Joel Zumaya Chrome (287/1958). I know it's just a chrome, but I was ecstatic. Right behind it was a Jeff Weaver Jersey. Already got a Preston Wilson Yellow team name variation.

These cards are beautiful. The A-Rod cards do seem out of place, but overall. Very pleased. I got my fingers crossed for an auto or a black.

You know I was thiking about that. My 8 box case last year only got me a red auto and a team topps. Im not sure if they
case is dead or not, but for the price I had to pay I need to move on to a fresh case.

Tons of great gum, on my 3rd piece.

Welcome! Glad you are on board. You have a great place to try for a set. There will be plenty of busters and plenty of extras!! Good
luck with the high end search!

You won't pull another auto out of that case. Move on to a fresh case.
