Went to a couple of coin shops today and found nothing! So I stopped by a small local pawn shop to see if they got any silver in. Looking around and they have nothing, but the pawn broker says he bought a year set and I can have it for $150. Well needless to say I jumped on it!! Here is the Walker and the Merc...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Oh, did I mention?................
YOU SUCK!
I'm looking for a 1939 Jeff with some frost on the devices, how does yours look? I'm paying retail+ for 1939, 1941 and 1942 T1 Jeffs with some cameo contrast because I am working on a set of pre 1950 Jeffs for my personal collection.
Looks like a 67CAM to me. If that coin doesn't hit CAM, then no Walker will.
The dime is a little suspect on the CAM, but still nice.
Way to go!!!

<< <i>Your luck is better than mine has been with pawnbrokers. Most of these guys I run into about as friendly as a junkyard dog and about half as intelligent. Their response to a simple a question, “Do you have any coins for sale?” is to growl and act like I just shot their dog.

First let me say You Suck
And now let me say
Nice find buddy

WOW!!
<< <i>BTW, is this the same pawnbroker where you got the 1893-S for $8?

That's exactly what I was wondering!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
i have no idea of the value, but they appear to be keepers.

This just serves to support the notion that "If you spend time looking for coins, you never know what you will find". Some people do not put in the time hunting for coins and thus miss out on opportunities like this.
Is the Walker going to NGC or PCGS?

Hell, I'll give him 5X.
My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.

any rightful owner of a 1939 proof set would know what it was
<< <i>That's awful close to cameo, and the obv is strong. Did the pawn broker think this was a 1939 mint set? Any chance that the coin has been frosted as it looks almost too good...like something from the mint today.

Yes, it's rare to see this much contrast frosting on a Walker and a Mercury dime. AND it's unusual for the coins to come in the same lot. The think the services will take on long hard look to make sure the frosting is real.
AND before we wax too romantic about these coins, both have been dipped. These coins are of more interest to advanced collectors when they are original. The dime especially shows signs of it. As a result the PCGS grade won't go any higher than PR-66 for Walker IMO. The Dime might go as low as PR-64. But if they get a cameo, that would offset the dipping from a price perspective.
traditional venues. If they ask too much you can actually counteroffer and they won't
be insulted if it's a fraction of their asking price. If they ask too little you can just pay it.
<< <i>great deal Marty but I have bad vibes about the pawnbroker and where that coin came from. And whose missing it. >>
do tell
<< <i>AND before we wax too romantic about these coins, both have been dipped. >>
Of course they have. The vast majority of these are hazed over crap. You "advanced" collectors can have that "original", (that's a crackup since they sure as hell didn't look like that when first minted), look. I'll take ones like this that look fresh from the die.

But are there free lunches in coins? In other words if a deal seems to good to be true... I think what another poster alluded to is the coins may have been hot. And if they are not then....
...in the past we have talked about dealers ripping buyers but is this a case in reverse? And I reiterate I would have done the same by buying and thinking about it later.
<< <i>But are there free lunches in coins? >>
Free lunches? No. Rewards for those who bust their ass hunting and seeking opportunity? Hell yes.
<< <i>...in the past we have talked about dealers ripping buyers but is this a case in reverse? >>
Yes, Marty hosed this dumbass pawnbroker - twice! He's my hero!!!!!
