This thread is too low on the list - let's bring it to the top again.
Have five trades going. To Ben, Andy, John, Jeff, Jim, and Craig - your cards are in the mail this morning. Sorry for the delay as I was away from home for two weeks and needed to catch up on a few things when I returned.
Received cards from Andy, Ben, and John. Many thanks for the help in completing this set. Almost there - still need chromes and light backs.
I just got finished putting all my set in pages..WOW, this set is huge! Anyone put it in a binder yet? Im thinking that even a 3 inch binder will be too small, I would rather not use two...any suggestions?
Just a thought for the guys who have not yet attempted putting this set in a binder.
I just did an extended base set. ONE of every card 1-400 (I just rounded up to 400 to include Jeter), then I have the Flashbacks, NAPs and TNs. It looks really cool because it includes stars and some SPs, but still does not cost a whole lot of money. I have mine in a 3" binder and that is way too big. A 2" binder should work well.

I just thought I'd share my experiences on returning 2005 Topps Heritage cards for replacement. I'm certainly seeing a lot of cards come out of the pack with dinged corners, very often on the 7th or 8th cards in the pack.
About 3 weeks ago, I sent out 6 lots of 25 for card-for-card replacement. Each lot of 25 was mailed separately (but at the same time) in its own team set bag and bubble envelope. Topps very promptly sent back replacements packed in team set bags. Although each lot of 25 was mailed separately, all six lots came back packed in the same cardboard box. Maybe 3 or 4 cards out of the 150 were dinged, but overall I was very pleased with the turnaround and quality of the cards received. Topps did send a couple snippy little notes back with the cards. One note said that they showed my cards to Quality Assurance and that they met their tolerances. The second one said I'd need to send back box bottoms or wrappers next time. For those who didn't know, Topps will replace up to 25 cards per mailing on a card-for-card basis. I don't send back anything for card-for-card replacement unless it is a star card or SP.
Unfortunately, my second experience in sending cards back was not as good. Last week, I sent back four lots of 25, packed and mailed the same way. The replacements arrived this afternoon. This time all 100 cards came back packed in team set bags all in one bubble envelope. About half the cards have significant corner dings and are probably worse than the ones I sent in for replacement. Particularly frustrating was the fact that an entire lot of 25 SP's came back dinged. I don't know if these cards were damaged in transit, or if they had dings when they left Topps, but the cards really weren't packed properly to protect against this type of damage. They are going to get them back in the next round. Again, this time I got a note about the cards being within their QA tolerances, but as a courtesy they would be replacing them one time only.
Based on my experiences, I guess if there is one thing I could recommend is that if you are going to send back multiple lots of the more valuable cards from the set, make sure you don't send back all the best cards in one lot of 25. If I get back a bunch of beat up cards next round, I'll be calling Topps Customer Relations. I think in 2005, getting LOTS of cards out of the pack that look about PSA 6 or low-end 7 is ridiculous.
Is Topps Heritage the most popular set for collectors? It's the only set I collect, being mainly a vintage collector. But I'm starting to get the itch to try something else. I like the fact that I can buy tons of Topps Heritage, and not have to worry about selling the extras for a huge loss, I can make a little profit or at least break even. Are there any other sets like this out there?
Have been reading this thread from the beginning , and really enjoy the Topps Heritage ! I am about 60 to 80 cards short of completing the set ( minus the white- backs , which I probably have about half of them ) ! My question for you Heritage experts is this : Is there a premium on getting a Refractor Numbered 1 0f 556 or Card # 556 of 556 and the same with #1 0f 1956 or #1956 of 1956......anyway , you get the idea ! I have never gotten a #1 or the last numbered card , but would you put a premium on it as being a desirable card to own ? I have no idea on E-Bay results , or if sellers even mention it ? ............................Robbie

As far as other sets which you can break even on...no , there really aren't any today. Most sets are just too expensive to put together and you have to settle with a base set. Actually Fleer puts out a tradition product and UD a vintage product , but those pale in comparision to the topps history.
Robby....those specially numbered cards do carry a premium, especially to player collectors. I have collected a huge amount of chromes every year since heritage has been out and have only gotten lucky once...that was pulling a Jason Kendell numbered to his jersey #...I sold it on ebay for 7 times high book!
You have to be patient, you could be sitting on a jersey # of a rookie and not even know it.
Kevin ..........Thanks for the info ..........will have to check my Chromes to see if any match a Jersey number ! Ken , thanks for the generous offer of cards ........will probably still buy a couple more box's to whittle the total down , sort'em , and find out what I really need ! Keep the Big Finds stories coming , really enjoy reading what everyone is scoring !...................Robbie

Guys, I am MEASLEY 24 SP's awayfrom a complete master set and then some which includes the base set, light backs, then & now, flash backs, new age performers, and flashback relic sets.
Well I bought a 3" binder at wally world tonight and the set barely fits, this is by far the most massive set of them all, if you have nailed this one you really can be proud. Im still about 25 cards short but they will come. Thanks topps!
I just got back from Aruba, a well needed vacation and I highly recommend it BTW and when I got home I had to go to Wal-Mart for "household items"....Since I had taken the plunge into Heritage, I saw another "booster" box....the Wife was not around so it made perfect sense for me to grab it...the results:
#7 311 Finley, 155 Chavez Blue A's Hat, 141 Park, 170 Morris, 237 Batista, 143 Iringhausen, 158 Eaton, 96 Valdez
#8 157 Olerud, 471 Strayhorn, 155 Chavez Green A's Hat, 212 Denorfia, 248 Glavine, 56 Lee, 71 Tadano, 217 Ibanez
I welcome all comments as I am not an expert on Heritage.

I don't have either of those, actually no one has #340, topps didn't make it! So you are down to only one card now!
Kevin >>
Kevin - are you sure? My 2005 SCD annual indeed shows that there is no #340, but here's one on eBay.
I also did a search on Beckett and came up with six different hits. In looking at the SCD list, both Williams and Tim Wakefield are listed as card #345. Rechecked my set and I only have the Wakefield. So is Williams really #345 too?
I can't let this thread sink into oblivion just yet. I am just too close to finishing my sets. PM or email me with trade offers. I also have a bunch of Chromes and refractors, but the only one I want is Jason Bay THC48.
I think I have about four of every other base card.
Thanks - Jim

wow after 4 years I realize Im actually missing the Mike Williams heritage set! Do me a favor and pick me up one and Ill trade you some cards for it.
Kevin
yes both are numbered 345...I guess if you only look at the numbers when you are putting together a set then you might miss this..I wonder if I actually had that card at one time and traded it!
Regarding the Heritage baseball product in the past...what's everyone's experience in terms of when it starts drying up on the retailer's shelves? Has it pretty much been available all season? I'm just curious, as this is the first "new" set I've played with in 12 years and a lot of what I've bought comes from retailers.
The first three years dried up big time, last years is still around and it looks like this year is drying up too. There should be some retail reloads still but Im questioning if those are worth it this year!
Hopefully I will get my 2nd batch from Topps this week and I can reveal my findings.
Note:...nothing earth shattering.
Right now I'm picking up centered refractors of cards I already own !!! I think one is addicted when they are buying duplicates to upgrade !!! I maybe a little OCD when it comes to Heritage !!
It sucks going to a Target and seeing 2 fresh retail boxes and 3 blasters. I still want to buy them ALL...but I have every card already in the packs (except for the black refractors and autos).
Way to go on the ink pull, Keith (and thanks for the trade...I'm almost done with my set). I got lucky today myself....I ran out to Target at lunch and bought an 8-pack booster box. Right there in the second pack was a Yogi blue ink autograph.
Guys, I am MEASLEY 14 SP's away from a complete master set and then some which includes the base set, light backs, then & now, flash backs, new age performers, and flashback relic sets.
SP's I need !!! ---- 5, 30, 130, 135 (Batting), 273, 399, 400, 402, 409, 410, 440, 444, 452, 468
Box 1: Nothing special, right number of Sps, chromes, inserts, GU Larsen, no autos.
Box 2: 13 Sps including Arod and Pujols, right number of chromes and inserts, no GU or auto
Box 3: 13 Sps, right number of chromes, inserts, GU Feller, Black Refractor Giambi 51/56. Anyone know what I can get for the Giambi right now, I know his cards aren't selling for too much these days.
3 total boxes, no autos. 2 more on the way that I will get this weekend.
Been doing the set for the last 2 years, its the only boxes I buy these days. Should be about 30 chromes and 20 Sps away as of right now.
The Schiavo thing is ridiculous, the whole topps chronicles idea is complete BS. It isn't an etopps related thing though, it's the same as the Bush card that Topps did a while back. I know how much you hate etopps but it's still going strong and luckily for me I got in at the ideal time and have been fortunate to make a very good profit which is tough to do when buying cardboard these days.
post 500!!! I just wanted to thank everyone for a great year of heritage. It been great to see old friends and make new ones. I look forward to reading in this thread that everyone has got their sets! Congrats to everyone and lets meet back here in a year for the 06/57 set!

trade you some cards for it.
Kevin
yes both are numbered 345...I guess if you only look at the numbers when you are putting together a set then you might
miss this..I wonder if I actually had that card at one time and traded it!
Thanks,
Todd
The first three years dried up big time, last years is still around and it looks like this year is drying up too. There should be
some retail reloads still but Im questioning if those are worth it this year!
Kevin
SPs - ARod batting, Jeter, Beltran Batting, Jose Vaquedano, Hee Seop Choi
TN - Livan Hernandez/Ronin Roberts
Chromes - Pat Burrell /1956, Matt DeSalvo refractor /556
Not too shabby.
I still want to buy them ALL...but I have every card already in the packs (except for the black refractors and autos).
do I need help?
yep, get the help ASAP

doing the set?
I emailed topps about the sick idea of making money on Terry Schiavo but they never responded.
JS
The Schiavo thing is ridiculous, the whole topps chronicles idea is complete BS. It isn't an etopps related thing though, it's the same as the Bush card that Topps did a while back. I know how much you hate etopps but it's still going strong and luckily for me I got in at the ideal time and have been fortunate to make a very good profit which is tough to do when buying cardboard these days.
