i Just Love Cards -

Nice! I got a brown box from Topps a couple of days ago- I had sent in some dinged and o/c Bowman heritage base cards - about 80 of them for random replacement. I got... the same 80 cards back, no SPs. Not complaining, but I was surprised that they went back and pulled all the cards I had sent. Needless to say, there will be some Heritage going out sometime soon, along with EVERY blaster box top I have.

I just ripped a hobby box last night and am EXTREMELY disappointed in the cards from a quality control standpoint. Fully 75% of the cards have serious condition issues. The vast majority of those with problems have horrible print smears and "snow", two things I'd expect to rarely see in modern cards. I swear it looks like someone took sandpaper to the card fronts. Also, on about 25 different cards, there is a very noticeable, heavy "straight-line" crease going through the middle of the card. There were also the normal amount of dinged corners that I tend to notice, especially on the 7th card in a pack.

To date, I have about 500 2005 Heritage cards set aside that have significant issues. I intend to return these to Topps for random replacement. Can anyone tell me if I'm going to need to list every card individually in the "explanation" letter Topps requires? I've separated out the stars and SP's for card for card replacement, which I know has a limit of 25 cards per mailed request. Also, I don't see where Topps requires Proofs of Purchase in their website instructions for replacements, but is this just a good idea to send them in anyway? I've saved most of my boxes, so they are available if needed. I'd appreciate anyone's insight, as I've been out of the new card market and mostly playing with pre-'75 stuff since about 1992.

There has been a lot of talk about trying to find heritage and possible shorting this year. I have gone back and revisited my production
numbers. For anyone interested I will leave the total production numbers below. These are checked against at least two numbered
sets which have stated odds across the entire run (both hobby and retail)

2001:

1,476,000 packs or 61,500... 24-count boxes

2002:

1,605,000 packs or 66,875...24 count boxes

2003:

1,563,000 packs

2004:

1,505,350 packs

2005:

1,520,000 packs

As it appears above, it seems like the first year was slightly limited and the second year a bit more produced. For the most part
heritage has an annual print run of 1.5 millon packs, which by todays standard is pretty limited, especially for a 2.99/pack
product.

A funny fact is this:

In 2001 10,000 packs would of netted you 3 original 1952 cards, 70 real one autographs and 18 red autos.

Today in 2005 10,000 packs gets you 30 real one autographs, 8 red autos and no original cards.

Also keep in mind that 21 of the autographed cards in 2001 booked over 80 dollars and included 7 HOF'ers and 5 soon to be HOF'ers

Today in 2005, there will be 4 autographed cards worth over 80 dollars and that list includes 5 HOF'ers and no soon to bees.

As long as they have the real one autos in they have to keep the number around where it has been. I don't like the
shift to the topps team legends autos, this is just old stock sitting on the shelf, it doesn't belong in heritage.

Its too bad that topps has made this so easy this year. This has not been the case in 2002 or in 2003, lately they have
gotten slack and need to change this to give everyone a shot. Of course so little of what happens at the printer is under
the control of the company that puts their name on the front of the product.

Alright I need some help now. I just opened my first 2 boxes, they were the 8x3 boxes, hobby I believe. I got the expected number of chromes, refractors, and inserts, and a ton of white backs. What I was really suprised about is that in one box I only had 4 Sps and the other box I only had 5 Sps. I even double checked the list from basilone. I remember last year from the 29.99 boxes I was pulling an average of an Sp per pack, what is the deal this year, did I just get a couple of bad boxes? Any expert advice would be appreciated.

All of the retail Blaster Boxes (19.99) that Ive opened had approx 4 SPs per box.

JS- are you referring to the auto pack...how can they prove that one is in there. There are no guarenteed auto odds per box or case.

I know the blaster boxes have decent odds but I only got 4 Sps out of 24 packs on the hobby boxes and then 5 sps in the other box, is this normal?

No it is not normal..you should get 12 SPs from a sealed 24ct hobby or retal box.

A Small Victory Over Pack Searchers

Leaving Columbus, OH tomorrow and returning home after a business trip. Had a few things to take care of and visited a local Wal Mart.

They had one 12X2 box with 20 packs left. Randomly picked five packs just for grins.

Pulled one Feller Relic and a Ivan Rodriguez refractor. The refractor will be on my trade page in the next few days. May keep the Feller. Debating on going for the full Relic set.

At least one box was out there that hadn't been molested. Maybe I should have bought the whole box.

Ok...this is really freaky. In a desperate attempt to finish off my master set, I bought a 2x12 box at Walmart yesterday, 2 zipper boxes at K-Mart tonight, and 2 booster boxes at Target tonight. I ended up with the Podres cards below....one from each store. I know this isn't the best possible pull, but I find this an incredible coincidence. Two of the serial numbers are even in sequence: 0227568 and 0227569. Maybe I should go buy lottery tickets from 3 different stores tomorrow...

Hey guys,

Can anyone send me the nice checklist spreadsheet that Basilone (or maybe it was someone else) put together? I would really appreciate it. Busted a hobby box tonight....really really disappointed with the quality control on these cards. About 60 packs busted of this product thus far and I have over 50 cards that look like they have been run over. I could handle a touched corner maybe, but these are ridiculous. Anyway, the box had a nice haul of whitebacks and a Harmon Killewbrew Senators GU bat card as well as the usual mix of SPs, chrome, and refractors. Will post my tradelist once I figure out what I need:>}. Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

NAP5 - Vlad
NAP11 - Helton
NAP12 - Ortiz

I have the following inserts to trade

NAP1, NAP6, NAP8, NAP9, NAP14, NAP13

Actually, I haven't been to Walmart
I'm pissed at my luck - especially with autos - none! I'm the "Buffalo Bills" of Heritage Auto Pullers!!
I have had good luck with other Topps products but this is rediculous! Last year I pulled a Cliff Floyd and this year NADA!!!

If anyone would like to trade chromes, please PM me - I have about 20 and need a ton. I will also trade SP's for chromes.
