A weekend of yet more firsts. On Friday it was the first early commemorative coin (1936D and 1935S California-Pacific International Exposition), and today at the local coin shop was my first proof coin purchase from the 1936-1942 era. This one is a PR65.

The Nickel (Type1) and Quarter proof issues have been added to my brand new 1942 Proof Set. The first three are PR65 and these two are PR66:
This makes five of the six issues, all PCGS and all with Gold Shield. A focus does help when looking for these, all starting with one in my local coin shop, the half-dollar.
I posted this in the world coin forum, but I’ll share here as well. I assembled a Canadian PCGS graded matte specimen set from 1937. I’ve been wanting this set for ages, and it came together rather quickly with some luck.

Not a new purchase, but a new grade! This coin used to be graded MS65RB. It went back under reconsideration and got the RD designation. I did lose the CAC sticker, but hopefully I will get that back to when I get a chance to send it in. I was puzzled how it was RB to begin with!
PCGS took the old true view and made it the plate coin on the RED page for the variety.
Took an $85 gamble on this common Morgan with the hopes it looked just as good in hand as the TrueView portrays. Mission accomplished. Perfect example of “buy the coin not the holder”. Nice cheek and reflective fields.

Thank you @asheland…. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I prefer coins of the early “pre-fire” mint era, some of my favorites in my holdings are lower grade, choice and scarce original coins like a chain cent, 1799 cent, ‘02 half cent, ‘99 dollar etc… the coins of the founders, I guess you could say. I’m a history buff, and the history draws me in. This dime is right in line, and was an obvious pick up. Thanks again.
Other passions include golf, Moto Guzzi motorcycles, and Euro motorcycles in general.

The 1942 United States Proof Set has been completed and all six coins are shown in their Trueview images below:
The cent, dime and half-dollar are graded PR-65 and the pair of five cent issues and quarter dollar are graded PR-66.
