I have a dealer close to me who is fairly new. He asks me for opinions fairly frequently as he doesn’t have the exposure I’ve had over my 40+ years of collecting.
Today I walked into his shop and noticed he had 2 1/4oz Platinum Proof eagles in original boxes. Something I’ve never seen in his cases. I inquired about them and said how metals were down today. He said if I take them both he would give me a good deal. I walked out with both purchased at 35% back of spot. $150 each.
It was a good day.

Congrats to you, but when I see this I feel sad for whoever sold it to them and got ripped off.
@JWP said: @PerryHall I don't think so. I believe it is caused by my shaky hand when I took the photo. I have a cell phone photo set-up sys in the mail and that should improve my problem. thanks, Jon
This is the best I can do with the cell phone and the poor lighting.

For my PCGS Tye Set, I figure modern coins are common and boring so I am trying something different. My modem series coins are all varieties. This speared bison, Kennedy Half is no FG, Roosevelt dime is no "P", Lincoln Shield is VDB-"V", presidential dollars are missing edge lettering, Sacagawea is the Wounded Eagle.
Silver R7 Highest Graded Example, Once I receive it I'll try to cross it to PCGS.
Its a rare coin with an estimated 6 known in silver, it was also minted in copper and aluminum, I think they are all R7.
Same coin sold in 1999 then in 2009 and then this month(me). it sold for approximately the same price at each auction, so a horrible investment but a coin that I like and fully expect to enjoy having in my collection, its not always about money and return on investment.
Nice standard silver price. Heritage had a BUNCH of standard silver patterns slabbed by NGC (and one slabbed by PCGS, which I was the underbidder on). I thought the coin you won was by far the nicest--very well struck and just quite pretty. Congratulations on acquiring it! I hope it crosses. And if it does, I hope the TrueView shows its beauty.

Hey Ken, thanks for asking.
Few thoughts:
1) I’m frustrated with my photos and haven’t jumped into getting a proper setup. My general feeling is my photos are not doing the coins justice. Recently picked up a very nice toned proof 1883 trade dollar but my photos aren’t good so no photos.
2) there’s a forum member here that finally has gotten under my skin. Frankly I prefer to like everyone but sometimes it can be a challenge and it’s not right for me to feel like I need to be an ass on here due to one person, right or wrong.
3) my march to complete an all CAC Morgan complete* set of rattlers has slowed way down…finding the last 17 or so coins is a feat in itself. Many upgrades secured which also need proper photos.
To answer your coin question, no my newp is not a 1.0 white label gold CAC mechanical error 😎, but I do have an active offer out on the coin. I believe my find is actually much better and I look forward to sharing soon.
Thrilled with this beauty. So incredibly tough to find with full date, proper centering, this color and lack of planchet flaws. Definite upgrade of my existing set piece.
Here’s my newest member to the rattler collection. Was very pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful 1795. You can see the red coming through nicely on the back.
I’m told there was another buyer who planned to crack, clean with alcohol to bring out the reds and attempt to get the coin into a 2/3 holder graded RB of which there are only 3 CAC examples known.
Thankfully, I was able to acquire the coin and preserve as is.

The grade on the 1937 (P) is MS-65, as is the grade on this 1935 (P).
And for cross reference or to complete the run, the following is my 1936 (P) in MS 66, this one from NGC:
