    Gates
    Holt
    Allen
    Woodson
    Wayne

If Wayne doesn't make it, I'll say Vinatieri instead.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Manning will get in since there is no other QB candidate but I agree he's not a first ballot player.

Adam Rank just put out his predictions for the HOF this year; Vinatieri, Holt, Kuechly, Gates and Manning.

I still think Manning waits a year and one of the OL gets in (Yanda, Anderson or Evans) and after more thought on it, I think Wayne over Holt this year. While I think Vinatieri is deserving, perhaps even as a first ballot special teamer, I don't think the voters are ready to do that just yet.

The senior list is just as interesting given Powell was on it last year and didn't make it and now isn't even a finalist. Do they put Baughan or Sharpe in? Sharpe doesn't feel like HOF to me and I know very little about Baughan. I keep waiting for @shagrotn77 to give us the leak. :)

Ha. They were great about preventing leaks for a few years in a row prior to last year. I believe all of the inductees were leaked before that dreadful awards show. I wouldn't expect any leaks until the meeting concludes tomorrow (early afternoon I assume).

0 AP1 or AP2 and 0 MVP votes according to Twitter. Does have the helmet catch and beating Brady twice in the Super Bowl.

Most important stat for Eli - Beating Brady twice in the Super Bowl

  • Other important stat = last name is "Manning"

  • shagrotn77shagrotn77 Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭✭

    Nada so far.

All I've heard so far is that Eli did NOT make it this year.

Maxie Baughan, Darren Woodson and Willie Anderson also not in. No word yet (as far as I know) on who is in. The voters are clueless to let Baughan get this close and not vote him in. He's LOOOONNNGG overdue.

Strange. They did this to Art Powell
Last year too. Holmgren must’ve got in. If no Maxie does that mean Sharpe gets in?

Only 3 of the senior finalists/coach finalist/contributor finalists can make it.

I completely forgot about Hay and Tyrer 🤦‍♂️

  • What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

No WR or OL? Just terrible.

  • shagrotn77shagrotn77 Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭✭

I don't even know if I have the energy for a rant right now...but here goes. The voting process is completely broken. It was heading in a good direction until last year when Powell and Parker made it all the way to the end, but didn't get in. And this was their fix??? Honestly, it's absurd to start with a list of (I believe?) 137 Senior finalists and continue to narrow it and narrow it and ultimately elect one. Sharpe was deserving IMO, but his wait paled in comparison to 2 equally deserving players. And the voting rules clearly state that a player is to be voted on solely for what he did on the field. Clearly that was not the case with Tyrer. He's the most decorated player not in the HOF. And to put forward just 3 Modern players? Why? I guess they love adding to the backlog. I really wish someone who knows what they're doing would fix this joke of a process. Rant over. Congrats to 4 very deserving new HOF members. It's gonna be real interesting next year when Brees, Fitzgerald and Witten are all eligible for the first time.

Any guesses on when the new inductees will be added to the set? In the meantime, I picked up these two at the local show today.

  • Envoy - Nice pick ups, congrats! I love that you posted this. It would be great to see what everyone is up to with there collection. I'll be sure to post my next big pick up too.

As for the new inductees being added...no clue. I just remember the last two years they were added well before March 1st.

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

I was looking at the BST boards and there’s basically no activity and this thread has been dead but I see tons of updates to the sets so figured I’d stir something up.
These were my pickups a couple weeks ago. The bowman’s came from the same guy I got the Otto and Ollie from yesterday.

  • Looks like you've been busy...and I wish I had a 1950 Bowman guy! I'd really like to get my Tittle, Canadeo, and Perry to 6 or preferably a 7 for the right price.

Here's my latest from a week or so ago. I took my Unitas from an ugly 4MC to a 6.

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

I love the 57’s and that is a beautiful Unitas!. I grabbed a 6 back in December or so as well. This guy does have a bunch of other 50 and 52’s both graded and raw. I only grabbed what I needed or upgraded me. Most were 5’s and a couple of 6’s. I think a Hirsch 6 and I can’t recall the rest that were 6. No 7’s that I saw. There was a really nice 52 Art Donovan but it came back min size he said. He has some 55’s that are supposedly really nice. He’s bringing those to the next show for me to look at.

  • Yeah, I'm trying to get all my cards at least one grade above the decade, and some are easier than others...if you know what I mean.

If I remember correctly, you are somewhere close to Indianapolis, do I have that right? I'm in Bloomington, IL and was just in Indy on Thursday. Maybe I need to make it out there to a show sometime.

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

@seanc80 - I am in Minnesota. I know exactly what you mean! I have been trying to get the grade for the decade and if the next grade or two up isn't a huge price increase, I try for that. Most of what I have in my set that is below that, I probably graded myself, with a few exceptions. I just tried not to get caught up in getting the card just to have it then spending more money to upgrade it later.

Those are some great pick ups, thanks for posting. The Unitas is terrific and I really like the Ollie Matson, wow, great coloring and centering on that one!!

  • shagrotn77shagrotn77 Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭✭

Great pickups, guys! Cosetta told me that the HOF RCs set will be updated any day now.

    Thanks for the update @shagrotn77
I just picked up 11 more upgrades. Should move me to #37 before the new HOF guys are added. I do have all of them and two are 10’s at least.

Anyone know if it's going to be Eric Allen's Score Supplemental that's the official card?

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

I expect it to be score supplemental for Sharpe and Eric Allen. Gates should be R&S and Jared Allen SP Authentic.

  • Copyboy1Copyboy1 Posts: 503 ✭✭✭✭

Can't wait for them to hit the set list!

  • I’ve got a few cards going into PSA on Monday and I’m hoping for some upgrades.  Some of these were liberated from SGC, while others were just picked up over the past couple of months.  I know the 1933 Badgro and the 1975 Michalske and 1975 Herber, don’t count for this set, but I collect those too.  I just wish there was a combined set with the same weighting as the registry set that included the other 75 member’s rookie or first year cards.

The new HOF cards are live in the set but did not auto-add.

@seanc80 Good luck with the sub! I've had mixed but mostly bad luck cracking SGC > PSA on vintage HOF. Every half-grade SGC card has dropped to the full grade. ie 5.5 > 5. All of them have been graded, I haven't had any that were deemed altered or min-size or anything like that and I've had a couple that dropped a grade. Namely some 6's that dropped to 5's. Given the parity of pricing on a lot of the vintage stuff, it's been a game I haven't had much luck playing and I generally do quite well looking at raw and determining grade so I must be mesmerized by the black borders making the card look better than it is. :)

  • @Envoy982 – Thanks for letting us all know about the new members being added to the list.  (and for keeping the conversation going in this group)

As for my submission, I completely know what you mean about the black boarder being deceiving!  But it looks like you haven’t lost a whole lot.  While I haven’t done a lot of crack and submit, I’ve definitely had some winners and some losers.  If I’m remember correctly, here’s my track record.

    The Winners
    51 Stautner – SGC 7 to PSA 8
    71 Greene - SGC A to PSA 6.5
    35 Edwards – SGC A to PSA 1
    51 George Young – SGC 4 to PSA 5
    04 Fitgerald – BGS 9.5 to PSA 10

    The Losers
    64 Olsen – SGC 6.5 to PSA 4
    35 Hinkle – SGC 3 to PSA 1
69 Csonka - SGC 5 to PSA Min Size
    48 Waterfield – KSA 8 to PSA 6
    98 Manning – BGS 9.5 to PSA 8

    The Wash
    63 Lilly – SGC 6 to PSA 6
    51 Weinmeister SGC 7 to PSA 7
    48 Conner – BVG 7 to PSA 7

So, I’m not sure if I’m ahead or behind.  I’m just trying to keep up with you and everyone else on the registry.  There’s been a lot of movement lately.  Just trying to look for the cards I need to improve at reasonable prices.  I know I should just save up for the big three that I still need (Thorpe, Nagurski, and Namath), but then I’d have to wait months without buying anything at all…and what fun is that!?!

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 387 ✭✭✭

True - it’s not as much fun! I’ve bought a ton off a former set registry member over the last couple of years. Everytime he gives me a list I prioritize cards I don’t have yet, then upgrades of guys with higher weighting.

Looks like you had some good luck with many of those cards. I’ve had zero luck with BGS/BVG and have given up on those.

@seanc80 and @envoy982 - not sure what you still need, but I've got some rookies from the registry for sale. Ping me if you're interested.
