His wife was on the local news last night saying the Hall of Fame would call her at 12:00 today to let her know.
They were partying last night like they already knew.

McMichael, Gradishar and Powell. That last one was a surprise. Who has a nicely-centered PSA 8 or better '61 Powell for me? :)

@shagrotn77 I am also in the same boat. I have been actively looking for his card the last 6 months with no luck. My brother picked up a nice 7 a few days ago.

That is because he is on the all-time Raiders set. Everyone wants that card !!!!
For Me at 2 pro bowls, McMichael is beyond a head scratcher.

Man this is a grind! I've been chasing stuff for 3 years to build up my set again and I'm only in the 60's. I'm going to need to flip some of this modern stuff to fund this.

    Here's the new HOF list.

Edited: I didn't list them all before...

    As announced tonight:

Eric Allen, Cornerback — 1988-1994 Philadelphia Eagles, 1995-97 New Orleans Saints, 1998-2001 Oakland Raiders
Jared Allen, Defensive End — 2004-07 Kansas City Chiefs, 2008-2013 Minnesota Vikings, 2014-15 Chicago Bears, 2015 Carolina Panthers
Willie Anderson, Offensive Tackle — 1996-2007 Cincinnati Bengals, 2008 Baltimore Ravens
Jahri Evans, Guard — 2006-2016 New Orleans Saints, 2017 Green Bay Packers
Dwight Freeney, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker — 2002-2012 Indianapolis Colts, 2013-14 San Diego Chargers, 2015 Arizona Cardinals, 2016 Atlanta Falcons, 2017 Seattle Seahawks, 2017 Detroit Lions
Antonio Gates, Tight End — 2003-2018 San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers
Rodney Harrison, Safety — 1994-2002 San Diego Chargers, 2003-08 New England Patriots
Devin Hester, Punt Returner/Kick Returner/Wide Receiver — 2006-2013 Chicago Bears, 2014-15 Atlanta Falcons, 2016 Baltimore Ravens
Torry Holt, Wide Receiver — 1999-2008 St. Louis Rams, 2009 Jacksonville Jaguars
Andre Johnson, Wide Receiver — 2003-2014 Houston Texans, 2015 Indianapolis Colts, 2016 Tennessee Titans
Julius Peppers, Defensive End — 2002-09, 2017-18 Carolina Panthers, 2010-13 Chicago Bears, 2014-16 Green Bay Packers
Fred Taylor, Running back — 1998-2008 Jacksonville Jaguars, 2009-2010 New England Patriots
Reggie Wayne, Wide Receiver — 2001-2014 Indianapolis Colts
Patrick Willis, Linebacker — 2007-2014 San Francisco 49ers
Darren Woodson, Safety — 1992-2003 Dallas Cowboys

Such a tough call with so many deserving players for just 5 spots. I gotta think that Peppers and Gates will make it first time around. And I also think they'll clear some of the logjam at WR. I'll go with Wayne and Holt, but AJ is equally deserving. For the last spot, I'll go Hester, though that would make for only defensive player being inducted. Will be an interesting vote for sure!

I don’t think I’d throw a fit if any of the remaining players made it. I think it’s time they cleared some of the WR’s though. I wonder if they will start looking at the RB position differently too. Hard to put up great numbers for several years with the 2 back system in a throwing league. It also makes it more difficult to distinguish the great WR’s with the HOF WR’s, especially across multiple decades.

My best guess is peppers, gates, Willis and 2 of the WRs. I hope I’m wrong and Harrison gets in.

Given that this is Harrison's first time as a finalist, he would seem to be quite a long shot. You never know, though.

Sounds like Steve McMichael has made it.

I think clarification is needed. He's one of three finalists selected by the senior committee as a nominee for the HOF. Though most finalists eventually make it at some point, those selected still need 80% of the vote by the regular HOF selection committee. Voting takes place at the annual meeting just before the Super Bowl.

  • shawthershawther Posts: 284 ✭✭✭

I can’t imagine him not making after being selected as a finalist by the Senior Committee. It has been a long while since a finalist hasn’t received the votes from the selection committee. As always, I look forward to hearing the final results in February.

    McMichael

With just 2 pro bowls I can't imagine how he ever even gets considered. I watched FB thru the time he played and not once ever heard his name mentioned.

I think he was a poor nomination and I’m sure his health played into it. I feel there were many other qualified candidates that the nomination would’ve been better suited for.

Peppers, Gates, Willis, Holt and Wayne. But I could see Jared Allen or Freeney getting in.

Peppers and Gates are locks. I could see at the least, one of those receivers making it if not both. Willis is going in either this year or next with Kuechly coming up next year for the first time.

My condolences to anyone who was looking to pick up an Art Powell 8 for a reasonable price before he gets elected next month. This one shocked the heck out of me!

@shagrotn77 I was watching that as well and was just as shocked! I have a couple ungraded that are in the 5-7 range. I am kicking myself for not buying a 7 for $30 back in March. I thought I had time to pick one up.

I was also watching that one. I thought it might hit $400. I found a 6.5 for $12 locally back in November. I figured that would end up being a steal. I have another raw one that is borderline 6/7 that I paid a lot more for.

This question is more towards the All Time and All Pro Sets, but when a player has only 3 rookies and 2 are autos and the other is /99 which one would get selected? I know we usually go w/ the unsigned base but /99 seems very limited. Thanks in advance!

Interesting. I have a set in almost all the football sets (all time/pro bowl/hof) and the lowest numbered card I can think of is /999. I can’t think of any autos off the top of my head.

I can't think of any myself but the lowest print run I can think of is Jay Ratliff /699 and that is his only rookie.

Likely one of the autos. This will be set when someone tries to add a card first in this day in age.

Isn't Justin Tucker's only rookie card an auto? And why is it so darn expensive???

For those of you who dislike the NFL Awards shows as much as I do, the HOF leaks have started rolling in. This is a bit of a surprise because they've been super tight-lipped about who was getting in before the announcement the last years. Alas, I know that Devin Hester, Julius Peppers and Steve McMichael are in. The last 2 should come as a surprise to no one. Hester may surprise a few, but he was on my list 😉.

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Willis is in. Jared Allen is out. Continuing to track the leaks.

Extremely surprised that two from the senior nominations didn’t make it. I would’ve been less surprised if McMichael was one of them. A bit of a flop this year.

I looked at a number of sites and tweets and the senior list was different on every one. Only Powell didn’t make it. Gradishar and McMichael did. Right? 😂

I’m more surprised Gates didn’t get in. Then I was seeing “banned substances” and I don’t remember that at all.

I'm completely shocked Gates didn't get in and Andre Johnson did (also over guys like Holt).

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 370 ✭✭✭

Looks like the new HOF guys were removed from the HOF Future sets but haven't quite made it into the HOF set. Is anyone expecting anything other than a weight of 1 for these guys?

  • Below are the members of the Class of 2024:

    Dwight Freeney
    Devin Hester
    Andre Johnson
    Julius Peppers
    Patrick Willis
    Randy Gradishar (senior)
    Steve McMichael (senior)

  • shagrotn77shagrotn77 Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭✭

From what I've read, that's pretty unlikely. For some unknown reason, they lumped the contributors and coaches in with the seniors, and only 3 can make it combined. After all the work they did to help clear the backlog of senior HOF candidates, this is a real head-scratcher.
