The 67 on the top row show their normal tone.
The bottom row is a different 1967 cent showing a bright yellow tone covering 99% of the coin.
Paint ?
I don't think it is, as I have another with a later date.

Newly graded. PF68.
In hand this coin's toning is a fiery, darker orange color. It also has a Cameo appearance with heavily frosted devices and mirrored fields.

On its way back to me now. Check out that grade 🔥 exceeds the next finest BN example by 4 points and is 1/1.1 -

Heck, I thought that was a proof. I didn’t look close enough. I’ve seen proofs with that same look and just assumed that’s what it was. That had to be one of the only 69BN Lincoln’s.

I too am surprised they didn’t designate it something like a MS67BN PL lol. Hey I’ll take a MS69BN any day hahaha. If you look at CoinFacts for 1969-S they made it the default pic lol.

I think that’s a mechanical error. I obviously haven’t seen the coin in hand but that looks like a proof to me. I don’t see them grading a mint state coin 69BN.

I think that’s a mechanical error. I obviously haven’t seen the coin in hand but that looks like a proof to me. I don’t see them grading a mint state coin 69BN.
I admit I didn’t even think of the mechanical error aspect. I’ve seen numerous proofs with this look. In hand it should be even easier to tell the difference between high grade proofs an MS Lincoln’s. The shine, gloss and luster is completely different, not to mention strike differences. The rims will also show a huge difference with the proof’s being sharp and square and MS being beveled or rounded.

Thank you to those who commented on my 1969-S above as being a mechanical error! It in fact was an error, and the coin was sent back to PCGS for correction. Good news however, it still came back as a PF69BN which still makes it the finest known PCGS BN graded Lincoln cent across both business and proof strikes! It’s such a stunner!

Although I would point out that, according to the Pop report (Oct 9), as a PR69BN cent it is the sole finest Type 3 proof (Copper) Lincoln Memorial proof cent. That's quite a high niche! There are, however, also two Type 4 (Zinc) Lincoln Memorial proof cents, a 1992-S and a 2004-S, both in the retired Terry's Toners Collection and to be auctioned (eventually, dates TBD) at Great Collections.
