Eagles now second favorite behind the Lions to win the Super Bowl.

The NFC championship winner is likely going to be the Super Bowl winner.

You’re oddly obsessed with odds! What does that have to do with winning the NFC or SB?
You never fill us in on who is playing well on your team except for Saquon, who is playing poorly, what they need to do better…. Nothing.
I’m starting to think you don’t know any players on the Eagles except for Saquon. You used to know 2 but Jason Kelce retired. How about some actual analysis instead of the odds?

    Buffalo Bills: +425
    Philadelphia Eagles: +475
    Detroit Lions: +475
    Kansas City Chiefs: +600
    Baltimore Ravens: +800
    Minnesota Vikings: +1200
    Green Bay Packers: +1200

New odds just came out today.

I like Darin. After the Chiefs don't three-peat, in his honor, I'm gonna limit the amount of smack to under 100 posts. 😉

Maybe the Eagles will stay hot at the right time of season this year. Last year they “got the lows” at precisely the wrong time.

It’s good to have someone to root for in the playoffs. It looks like the Tampa Bay team might make it again in their weak division. Less said about the Patriots season, the better. Patriots fans have to root for draft picks.

The playoff bound, and hopefully Super Bowl bound Eagles, with a tough game on Sunday against the Steelers. After a 2-2 start, the Eagles haven't lost a game since. Let's hope that streak continues.

Saquon Barkley, MVP candidate, will have another busy day. If Hurts can play mistake free football, and Sirianni doesn't get too cute with the play calling, the Eagles should win this game.

I keep. waiting for Pittsburgh to implode but it just hasn't happened

If they win the division and get the payoff spot I say they will be one and done.

    Philly 24
    Pittsburgh 23

I keep waiting for Kansas City to implode. How many horseshoes can a team have? They remind me of the early season Eagles last year. They have piled up a bunch of wins, but most all of them were super close.

I am tired of looking at Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reed ads on TV. If I see “bundle-roooo-ski” one more time, I’ll scream.

Eagles with another tough game today. They sure are receiving a lot of accolades from the media. I'm not so sure it's all that deserved quite yet. They still need to play mistake free football, along with Sirianni not making any bonehead calls, to beat the better teams. Hopefully that will happen today.

The Eagles beat the Commanders around a month ago, but that was at home. Today the game is at Washington.

The Commanders have overachieved this season beyond most expectations. Of course a big reason for that is quarterback Jayden Daniels who is having a very good season, excellent for a rookie.

One thing that could be at play in this game. NFL players in their rookie season, particularly QB's, sometimes if not often hit a "brick wall" around this time. Mainly because they are playing a lot more games and practices than they did in college, and may not be used to it. Plus the stress and pressure can take its toll on a rookie player.

So while it's not impossible that Daniels has another good game today, don't be too surprised if he deteriorates a bit, and does not do very well, perhaps a pick or two, etc.

Concussions are tough calls. It didn’t look too bad, but you can never tell how long Hurts could be out.

You're right. But I'm more infuriated about the Hurts injury. I mean the Eagles had the lead, moving the ball well both rushing and passing, and Sirianni in all his "brilliance", calls a designed run play for Hurts. Just stupidity beyond belief.

There is always risk of QB injury especially calling a play like that right up the middle. Okay maybe ya risk it with the game on the line, if ya don't have a Saquon Barkley on the team. But never in a million years in that situation. There was some other chit in the game as well.

    Is Rich Kotite available? 😒

I recall those games whereby the Patriots blew out the opponent. Had it completely won during the 4th quarter, and yet Belichick would still leave him in there. Simply baffling.

It's not like Brady needed the work or something. Brady had the finest work ethic of probably any other QB in NFL history.

A small number of quarterbacks are like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen who seem to be made of rubber. Those two can run around can run around like show ponies. The rest will end up injured eventually, sometimes with career ending problems.

Coaches who expect their quarterbacks to do much more than scramble when they have to do it, are flirting with disaster. If Hurts is down, the Eagles’ season is over.

This Sunday’s game against the Cowboys could be an indicator for the rest of the season. The Cowboys have improved since their quarterback went down, but the Eagles have them at home and have a lot more talent on paper. If they lose this one, it could be a replay of the end of last season.

I'm still not sure what's going on with Hurts. The odds haven't plummeted, so I guess "everyone" is expecting him to play?

Even if Hurts does play, is he going to have some residual effects of the concussion during the game? Big difference between remembering your own name, and remembering the playbook and making split second decisions on a football field.

Also there's a reason why any team would get rid of a first round draft pick QB after only two seasons, and the reason usually isn't good. I'll of course be rooting for Pickett if he plays, but I have little confidence in the results.

All that being said, it's a strange line for the Eagles at -7.5 that's for sure. The Cowboys have been playing better as you stated. And did I mention Kenny Pickett? 😝

    Unfortunately, I agree with ya.

We were extremely fortunate to pick-up Saquon Barkley. I'd sure hate to see his possible MVP season go to waste because of a ridiculously stupid play call by Nick Sirianni.

I think we're going to come out of this Cowboys game either smelling like roses or smelling like a cow pasture.

If the Eagles manage to lose the Giants the week after this one, the cow pasture will turn into a pig farm.

My parent’s house, which was on farm, was down wind from a pig farm. It forced my father to buy central air for the house. An old girl friend and I called it “ode de pig.”

    https://www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-jalen-hurts-doctor-interview-news-analysis-latest-news-week-17-return-concussion-recovery-protpcol/

Should Eagles play it safe with Jalen Hurts' concussion?

"One thing is, he's gotta establish he's back to his baseline. These players do a test at the beginning of the season to establish a cognitive baseline for a test that they take after a concussion. [Hurts] can't be exhibiting any symptoms, whatever they might be — whether it's burry vision, memory problems, fogginess, fatigue, headaches — he needs to be over all of these and work through the stages of the concussion protocol, and he needs to be cleared by independent neurologist.

"The severity of the concussion will determine when he's able to do that. Sometimes it will take 5-to-7 days minimum to get through all those things. He's kind of up against the clock a little bit."

"It's always good to exercise caution. Even if it's a mild concussion, it does make you more susceptible to getting another concussion in the future, and another head injury could keep him out for a much longer time... Yes you want to get him back as soon as possible, but you do need to be a little cautious there. You don't want to necessarily let the games dictate whether the player plays or not. I would not be surprised if they exercised extra caution to keep him out of the game this week to protect him and have him fully healthy for the real important stretch."

How do QBs perform in their first game back after a concussion?

I’ve always wondered this question so I decided to evaluate what the data shows.

I have 16 different NFL quarterbacks who have suffered a concussion and all but one return to action in the same season (Tua Tagovailoa - 2022)

So what does the data show?

33% of QBs had a LARGE performance dip
20% of QBs had a MILD performance dip
13% of QBs had a mild performance boost
6% of QBs had a moderate performance boost
6% of QBs had no change in performance

The only QB whose performance significantly improved was Lamar Jackson and that was in the 2021 playoffs

Most QBs struggled in their first game back, including Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold,
Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, Kenny Pickett and Tua Tagovailoa.

The average games missed was 1, 31% missing 0 games, 44% missing 1 game and 25% missing 2 games (Tua had 50% of these).

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts was still in the NFL's concussion protocol Friday, forcing the Philadelphia Eagles to prepare to play against Dallas without their star quarterback.

“It's going to be tough for him to make it this week,” coach Nick Sirianni said Friday.

The Eagles would turn to backup Kenny Pickett on Sunday if Hurts is not cleared to play because of the lingering effects of a concussion suffered against Washington.

Hurts was injured early at Washington after his head slammed against the ground on one run and he was hit in the helmet by Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu at the end of another.

Sirianni said the Eagles would lean on the medical staff on a daily basis to know where Hurts — who threw two touchdown passes and ran for a pair of scores in the first meeting against Dallas in November — was in his recovery from the head injury.

Hurts isn't healthy enough to play just yet.

If Hurts is out just give ball to SB and let him run all day. That will keep the ball away from Dallas.

Washington found ways to stop him after Hurts was hurt. His total yardage was very impressive, but it was all in the first half.

If the Eagles are to win this game, the defense will need to show up.

Interesting that the bettors have to be handicapping this game, as though Hurts isn't playing. Yet the line today at the website I follow, moved from -7 to -7.5

Arguably, Philly may be the second largest betting market in the country, second only to New York City. Philly fans are so hungry for a Super Bowl and for the Eagles to keep doing well, they may be betting with their heart and not with their head on this game. I simply can't fathom why the line increased a half point to the Eagles with Hurts almost definitely being out. The half point increase in a key number such as 7 points, means the bookies are begging for some Cowboys money.

I guess the Eagles bettors are handicapping the game, that Pickett will improve in his second start? Don't forget though that Pickett injured his rib in the previous game. Very tough game to handicap with all the uncertainties going on here. We shall see what happens on Sunday.

"Eagles rule out QB Jalen Hurts vs. Cowboys due to concussion"

Backup Kenny Pickett will start for the Eagles in Week 17

It didn’t look like Hurts hit the ground that hard on TV. It shows how easy it is for a season to go down the drain potentially.

The Patriots lost Brady for most of a season and for a four game suspension. Mahomes has never been out for an extended period. It really makes a difference.

Barkley only had 66 yards rushing in the previous Cowboys game. I'm sure the Cowboys strategy today will be to key in on Barkley, and force Pickett to beat them with his arm.

Good start. Hopefully not a bad finish. LOL

Allright Pickett, how about no "picks" today.

Frankly, i have my doubts. Hope I'm wrong.

Aside from the pick 6, the Eagles” defense has not shown up to the game yet.

Pickett pathetic, not to my surprise.

Somebody give this boy a shot of Adderall or something?

Maybe the Eagles could score some points with another pick-6? Maybe with a safety or some 70 yard field goals. 🙄

This Eagle’s team looks like the squads I followed when I was a kid. King Hill was the quarterback, and they won four or fives games a year.

The team is flat. They are mailing it in. They won’t beat the Giants playing like this.

And the big problem is who knows if Hurts will be back for the next game?

Announcement just came over the Eagles stadium loudspeaker:

"Can anyone in the stands play quarterback?"

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,354 ✭✭✭✭✭

Attaboy Kenny, I knew you could do it. LOL

One incredible catch and the ability to hit an open receiver, and things look a little better.

Still the defensive needs to step up. When you have a team 1st and 20, you should be able to stop. It took a questionable play selection from the Dallas coach to do it.
