Dwight Gooden in 1985 with a 1.53 ERA.
You got it!! it was the good doctor. what a season!
Let me throw out a side story about Gooden and the dangers of cocaine. As I often say, if these details sound off, someone please correct me.
As I recall it, Gooden missed the ticket tape parade after the Mets won in 86. I don't recall if he said he slept through it after being on a booze and coke mission or if he was off doing something else. But he missed it due to drug use. I have read him say that when they won the World Series, the only thing he could think about was when and where he would get more coke.
And sadly, if I remember correctly, his introduction to cocaine had been relatively recent to that event. I think it was the off season the year before. He was with a brother or cousin, and went somewhere to buy pot. But they didn't have any. But they had something else. The details of this might be off slightly, but I'm pretty sure it is close to accurate. I've read bits of this in different places, and then a long expose interview with him a few years ago detailing it.
Anyone who knows about Gooden knows the potential for all time greatness that existed.
PS. I really hope I didn't mix any details up with Strawberry. Don't think I did.

I did not know all 6, either.
I knew Reggie and Bench hit homeruns in the game, and was fairly certain on Killebrew and Frank Robinson. Aaron was just a guess that turned out to be correct.
My sixth player/guess was Willie Mays, which was not the correct answer.
I would have guessed Ryne Sandberg. Didn't Jeff Kent play some 1B also?

The 1971 All-Star Game, along with Game 6 of the 1975 World Series were 2 of the go to rebroadcasts during rain delays back in the early 80s. Seems that the highlights from the 69, 70, and 79 Series also were favorites of the networks to kill the time. I don't know if that was NBC Game of the Week rain delays or Royals or Cubs rain delays, but I saw those episodes many times growing up.

I think the correct / incorrect answer is Mike Schmidt is the only player to hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats on two separate occasions; first time on April 17, 1976 and second time, across two games, on July 6-7, 1979.
I say incorrect because Ralph Kiner also hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats on two separate occasions; first time, across two games, on August 15-16, 1947 and second time, also across two games, on September 11 and 13, 1949.

That was what I was going for.
I had never seen Kiner pop up before as twice, particularly the 1949.
The Baseball Almanac website provides the innings of the homeruns (Baseball Reference does not, but they do provide plate appearances). Based upon a review of the boxscores, it does appear that Kiner did hit HRs in the last two AB on the 11th and first two on the 13th.

I just saw this thread. Very enjoyable.
If I may, I will throw one out there.
Mike Schmidt has done something twice that no one else has done more than once. What is that?
I think the correct / incorrect answer is Mike Schmidt is the only player to hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats on two separate occasions; first time on April 17, 1976 and second time, across two games, on July 6-7, 1979.

good question. I truly have no idea.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
here is another calendar trivia question:

I stand corrected.
My initial guess, based upon a remembrance of one of my favorite childhood (somewhat) oddball sets, was correct.
I will wait for others to guess.
I believe it is Lefty Grove with 9 ERA titles, correct?
Lefty for the win! and he did it in one of the heaviest offensive eras in history.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Surprisingly, his WHIP was a bit high relative to his ERA. He didn't give up many homeruns, though.
Name the only two MLB players to have played at least 23 seasons for the same franchise.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
