No need to defuse. Once you get your white balance set with a (Grey Card) you can now adjust your aperture and shutter speed. I shoot in manual mode because it gives me total control over what my camera does. I get good results and it’s not as tough as it sounds. The trick is to have an (SLR) a Single Lens reflex camera box and attach it to a macro lens. This is how I shoot.

Here’s a picture of my setup. I use a copystand that has the most rigidity of any other model out there. It has a 4”column the camera can slide up and down on. This one is 5’ tall as I also photograph larger items from time to time.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on equipment and imaging, Joe. My setup is similar, and I use manual too. ( I have to as my lens is a 105mm manual Micro-Nikkor!).

I bought one silver and one copper of The 2022 Eureka Springs Art Medal. I have a 1904 $20 Liberty Head which
I sent in for him to overstrike. I had to tilt it ever so lightly to show the under type........It sure came out beautiful!.

I originally bought this in 2015 or 2016 at FUN in an NGC 68 holder for my 1950-1964 Toned Proof Registry Set. I did not think it was a 68 so I was happy to cross it over to PCGS to get a True View. In 2018, I sold all of my toned proofs. Fast forward a few years and there are a few I wouldn't mind having back. This one became available last week and I picked it up.

Way way overpaid but I wanted at least one coin in my collection with the Simpson Pedigree on the label. Received the coin today and I like it. The true view is accurate for color but does not reflect the luster.

She's cleaned, I paid too much... (not really but still the most i've ever spent on a cleaned coin)
And damn am I happy I finaly found and won one i really like....
