I have a love/hate relationship with those grades. Obviously, I wish all my cards got a 10, but that would actually be a very bad thing for my collection since it would mean PSA is giving turd cards 10s they don't deserve. Two years ago, those cards would have gotten better grades. I'm happy to see the new stricter standards.
The "complete set" part of the Robert is a title any non-regular base card gets that comes in a Topps Factory set. Different factory sets have different "bonuses" inside them. One of the annual retail versions includes one of five Chrome photo variations for five rookies that they choose. This is the Chrome photo variation for Robert.

I feel your pain. Truly, PSA has lost my submission business. I will purchase PSA cards for sure as I know they are the most respected CGC, but will no longer waste my time submitting. Too many issues, constantly changing flips, too long, inconsistent grading, woeful customer service, and the whole Nat Turner takeover has soured me. I mean, really?, Kevin Durant is a major investor and PSA puts him on the cover of SMR? Talk about conflict of interest.

Talk about first in first out…I had a sub leapfrog one of my others. I submitted them in the same box and they were sequentially numbered. They were entered on the same day and hit grading the same day then assembly on the same day. Sub 1 hit QA1 on Sunday and is still in QA1. Sub 2 didn’t hit QA1 until yesterday and is already in QA2 and the review list has disappeared so I expect it to pop today. These subs have the same amount of cards and are the same service level. How did sub 2 fall 4 days behind and then leapfrog to the finish line in 1 day???
I don’t see the method to the madness. Oh well at least they are both close to complete!
Very nice hit on the 73 Clemente Mike, and after all these years of knowing you and your eye for grading, I can see that lots of those cards are graded incorrectly.
Mike, nice hits on the Clemente and '78 Palmer. With the '76's, some graders consider cards with the green strip at the edge on the reverse as a 'miscut' while other graders will holder them. If that was their issue, I'd try resubmitting them someday.

Sorry about your luck on some of these. I've been getting similar results lately. I call it the Clint Eastwood good the bad and the ugly time of grading. I'd love to see those Ichiro's in particular.

first thing that comes to mind for me is how the 2001 sets bricked and I believe the cards in packs had a tendency to do that as well...maybe some very tiny paper transfers from one card to another on the Ichiro rookies?
The Ichiro's were (sadly) from a sealed set case and a bonus sealed set. they just cut them poorly, making the limiited's tough. Thought it would be a seven and three sixes... so not too bad relative to expectation. They weren't even bricked... just cut poorly for the shinier stock. Can't fault PSA as much as Topps (or my poor judgement o open them).

I had all 3 sets of these at one point. I noticed the HTA cards held up best. The limited all seemed to get some sort of film on them. Though it would wipe off that green border would flake very easily.
Just happened to have this card sitting on the desk as I was typing this. See if the ichiro shows any sign of this when you get it back. The flaking could have happened when the grader took the card out of the Card Saver.
The Ichiros definitely had border flaking. You can probably blow on those cards and the green will flake off. Limited Edition seems to do it the worst.
On your second Clemente I see a print dot in the black border almost in the center of the catcher’s thigh. There is something going on with the left edge by the umpire’s head. Still don’t see that card being a 3! The back got you pretty hard but I have seen 5s and 6s worse looking than that! Nice hit on the 9 though!
I got a head scratcher myself the other day. Now this card is nothing compared to those Clemente cards, in terms of value. It is the only Russell Wilson baseball card I have ever pulled in all of the ultra modern I have opened so I thought it was cool and wanted it slabbed. Thought for sure this was a 10, as it’s pretty easy to eyeball ultra modern and pre-grade them yourself. The card got an 8.5 but I can’t see anything wrong. Maybe someone can point out what I missed

Zoom in and you can see the hazy film that I mentioned as well. It will wipe off but you really run the risk of causing even more flaking. Someone mentioned those cards bricking really bad and that was a problem with mine as well. I can’t remember which set it happened on the worst but I don’t think it was on the limited set.

That was my thought too. Maybe just a tiny bit somewhere would unfortunately be enough to kill a grade. I just thought maybe paper loss would take it to a 1, but if all other aspects of the card are so strong, maybe it brought it up to a 3? A light crease/bend wouldn't be enough to take it to a 3, it would be a 4.
Thanks for the thoughts guys - here is a closeup of the couple of ideas mentioned. It is not paper loss to the right, just some kind of paper imperfection that kept the gold/yellow color out. Not seeing any wrinkle by the 114 either, let alone a crease that would go through to the front causing a 3 (versus a 5). Am sure this one will get cracked out and sent in to someone again, but will happily keep the 9
Happy for you, and glad to see lots of 10s, but I have a value ultra modern received 12/13/20 and logged 2/17/21 but still languishing in the grading stage.

Fun times: it was just 1 year ago today that I sent my 2016 Topps group off for grading and today, still grading. By this time next year, I think we can maybe get over to assembly.
I find it frustrating that I have thousands of dollars worth of submissions there that are already over or will be well over a year at PSA and they are already opening up lower tier submissions. That coupled with grading inconsistencies has made me dabble in other grading companies. PSA is king but it may not be for much longer. Seem to be running off many loyal customers.

Sub 2 didn’t hit QA1 until yesterday and is already in QA2 and the review list has disappeared so I expect it to pop today. These subs have the same amount of cards and are the same service level. How did sub 2 fall 4 days behind and then leapfrog to the finish line in 1 day???
I don’t see the method to the madness. Oh well at least they are both close to complete!
Bah. Mixed bag. At least 35-40 “No Way” grades here. Way too many not graded too. But some decent ones. Ah well.

Very nice hit on the 73 Clemente Mike, and after all these years of knowing you and your eye for grading, I can see that lots of those cards are graded incorrectly.
Mike, nice hits on the Clemente and '78 Palmer. With the '76's, some graders consider cards with the green strip at the edge on the reverse as a 'miscut' while other graders will holder them. If that was their issue, I'd try resubmitting them someday.
Sorry about your luck on some of these. I've been getting similar results lately. I call it the Clint Eastwood good the bad and the ugly time of grading. I'd love to see those Ichiro's in particular.

first thing that comes to mind for me is how the 2001 sets bricked and I believe the cards in packs had a tendency to do that as well...maybe some very tiny paper transfers from one card to another on the Ichiro rookies?
The Ichiro's were (sadly) from a sealed set case and a bonus sealed set. they just cut them poorly, making the limiited's tough. Thought it would be a seven and three sixes... so not too bad relative to expectation. They weren't even bricked... just cut poorly for the shinier stock. Can't fault PSA as much as Topps (or my poor judgement o open them).

I had all 3 sets of these at one point. I noticed the HTA cards held up best. The limited all seemed to get some sort of film on them. Though it would wipe off that green border would flake very easily.
Just happened to have this card sitting on the desk as I was typing this. See if the ichiro shows any sign of this when you get it back. The flaking could have happened when the grader took the card out of the Card Saver.
Definitely some bombs in there (in a good way). Congrats on those!

Why did the second Clemente get a PSA 3? Is it the back? Amazing that there are still raw 50 year old cards in mint condition out there.

From the photos you sent, the corners on the 3 look sharper than those on the 9s! LOL.
There appears to be something irregular going on in the '70 to '72 stats...perhaps the card absorbed some water?
The Ichiros definitely had border flaking. You can probably blow on those cards and the green will flake off. Limited Edition seems to do it the worst.
On your second Clemente I see a print dot in the black border almost in the center of the catcher’s thigh. There is something going on with the left edge by the umpire’s head. Still don’t see that card being a 3! The back got you pretty hard but I have seen 5s and 6s worse looking than that! Nice hit on the 9 though!
I got a head scratcher myself the other day. Now this card is nothing compared to those Clemente cards, in terms of value. It is the only Russell Wilson baseball card I have ever pulled in all of the ultra modern I have opened so I thought it was cool and wanted it slabbed. Thought for sure this was a 10, as it’s pretty easy to eyeball ultra modern and pre-grade them yourself. The card got an 8.5 but I can’t see anything wrong. Maybe someone can point out what I missed
The white spots are just dust on the case
Zoom in and you can see the hazy film that I mentioned as well. It will wipe off but you really run the risk of causing even more flaking. Someone mentioned those cards bricking really bad and that was a problem with mine as well. I can’t remember which set it happened on the worst but I don’t think it was on the limited set.

1973 Clemente Clemente might have a crease on back. From stat 114 through 3rd
paper loss (if that is what it is) would do it...under "AVG"

Thanks for the thoughts guys - here is a closeup of the couple of ideas mentioned. It is not paper loss to the right, just some kind of paper imperfection that kept the gold/yellow color out. Not seeing any wrinkle by the 114 either, let alone a crease that would go through to the front causing a 3 (versus a 5). Am sure this one will get cracked out and sent in to someone again, but will happily keep the 9

Happy for you, and glad to see lots of 10s, but I have a value ultra modern received 12/13/20 and logged 2/17/21 but still languishing in the grading stage.
Ouch...absolutely should be moving soon...Mine was in Grading forever, but once it got out of there it moved along quickly...good luck!

Until they publish subgrades it's always going to be a black box result. And they won't publish subgrades, so....
I sent in (3) cards under the new $100 Regular level... they should land on Monday. It'll be interesting to see how long these take.

I sent in a 34 card Regular ($100 per card) sub, and they were logged as Received on Friday, 12/31. The wait begins...
Fun times: it was just 1 year ago today that I sent my 2016 Topps group off for grading and today, still grading. By this time next year, I think we can maybe get over to assembly.
I find it frustrating that I have thousands of dollars worth of submissions there that are already over or will be well over a year at PSA and they are already opening up lower tier submissions. That coupled with grading inconsistencies has made me dabble in other grading companies. PSA is king but it may not be for much longer. Seem to be running off many loyal customers.
