What?! The coin doesn't come in the usual velvet style box?

It's just sitting in the cardboard box?

  • Options

it's a velvet fiber glued to a plastic insert.

    not velvet clam shell.

    thanks mint director!

When you’re proud of your work no better way to show it than crappy packaging. Did saving a dollar on packaging really provide the financing for my improved mint experience 😁the nicer boxes are available on eBay for $5-$10 each. Thanks again for my enhanced experience

So...the price increased, but they saved a few cents on the box...FOR THE FIRST COIN OF A NEW/REVISED SERIES?

    Typical.

Fortunately, I have few dozen empty clamshells in my wife's shoe closet!

That's completely understandable. Last week, in the spirit of the Mint's web site, I told my wife that she was not human. As she was about to smack me with a rolling pin, I told her that she was a goddess. Phew! Saved by some quick thinking!!

    2021 ASE TYPE 1 vs TYPE 2

Has anyone compared T-1 & T-2 Obverse. The strike on T-1 seems to shows a lot more detail on Liberty's Flag covering. The T-2 looks like a soft strike or the dress has been engraved lighter than before. I don't know what I'm saying, it just looks different.

They did remake the obverse die as well.

As a newbie its nice to see my reaction on the crappy packaging was the same as the vets around here. :#
Hoping my local dealer has some old clamshells. If not- there's always Ebay.

Just 3 weeks until the American Eagle 2021 Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set and not even a hint of any details about it. (other than they'll be from two different mints - W,S) Or have I missed something?

Has the numis-media been sworn to secrecy or is the Mint just being their normal tight-lipped selves?

    What I wrote on 7/29:

Received mine yesterday. Compared to my 2021 Type 1, The Obverse strike/details looks better on my Type 1.

I definitely like the Type 2 Reverse better, very detailed features. I like the Eagle in-flight. My biggest complaint on the Type 2 is they no longer come in the nice clam-shell velvet case. The mint got very cheap on the casing (box). Waiting for the S Mint.

Open with care spray with air carefully. Or live with it which I do cause I’m clumsy

I only use a "Bulb Air Blower". I heard that compressed air can contain moisture, and canned air can contain some oils. (I don't know if it's true tho)

Never us compressed air unless you want to see that beautiful shine vanish I know cause I did that on a gold proof once and totally ruined it! Part of my school of hard knoxs lessons.

I received my 2 Type 2's today. I like the new eagle, despite the clipped wing, but the rest of the reverse seems cluttered.

Regarding the new packaging, the mint sent out a survey a few months ago focused on the packaging, not sure if it was randomly sent it of all their customers got it. I said that I cared about the coin arriving safe but not about the appearance of the packaging as I send most of mine in to get slabbed anyways. I'm guessing this change is a result of their survey.

Everything I've sent in to our host in OGP had had the OGP returned in my shipment, even torn open congratulations set packaging.

Seeing the number of people looking for the old packaging maybe I should put mine on BST to clear out some space.

My guess is that the cheaper packaging is the new standard.

The shipping boxes are clamshell-like. Maybe more oyster, can be difficult and dangerous to open.

Mine were to arrive today August 28th, but to my surprise they arrived Monday August 26th.
    Makes me wonder what happened.
I will say I'm glad the mint is using USPS as bad as they are, instead of the UN Sure pos> @Dirt94 said:

This is how my Box showed up yesterday. I thought for sure I would be sending this one back to the mint. It looks like one wheel of something ran over half of the box. Once I got to the coin I was surprised there was no damage on it but the paperwork was all crushed too. I am glad i only ordered one coin because if it was three for sure they would have been damage. Oh well......

Now that was a close call. Glad the coin was not damaged. I've had a few packages show up similar to that, but never that bad. OGP is toast, though. Too bad.
