Wow. A friend said it was "high" didn't know it was 110K. That seems insane to me

Not my series, what is the coin worth without the toning

Just sold for 110K hammer. The bid is legit, also with an underbidder. I was offered the coin at the ANA and passed at a lower number....I never guessed it would bring this!!

    BTW...a "white" 65FBL is worth $100. CU is 13,500 in 67+
Congrats to the new owner! And congrats to the consignor!

Many of us have technically nicer 1958 halves, with less or different toning.

Reminds me of the 53-S in 66FBL that hammered at 69k years ago, leaving everyone scratching their head. This one is a far, far bigger enigma. At least the 53-S was a rare pop 1/0 at the time.

58s are about the easiest date to find with stunning toning, though this one may top them all.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but this is a record price for a MS Franklin.

I love toned Frankies! I'm happy to see the wild interest. Waiting for the Paul Harvey.

Could use a dip. Other then that, nice dreck.

I saw this coin in person. It was nice, but I personally would have dropped out many $k ago. I'll take that 1824 over various dates in the same auction for far less. Bet the seller is happy though.

PCGS only prices the coin at 13,000 https://www.pcgs.com/cert/35921630
The guy overrided even with a CAC in my opinion.

Yes, I think this is a record (at auction at least). The 1958 is harder to find beautifully toned than a 1958-D but still quite available relative to other dates in the series. This coin is exceptional but that price still shocks me.

The coin reminds me a lot of this one, which now looks like a steal at $5K!

Just think what else one could purchase for $110,000. That said, there must have been at least 2 people that wanted it.

That's absurd, even for a pretty coin like that.

Super duper common date in an uncommon grade. Registry madness in play. Almost like just burning your money.

110k? Man i could really redo my bathrooms with that kind of money, i kinda like the reverse of the coin in question, the obverse is just color overload for me, imho

Looks a full point over graded to me.
Major hits on shoulder, chest and head.
Blatantly visible reed mark above the bell. Multiple hits on bell around Pass and Stow and multiple hits on bell lines.
And I didnt even need a neutron microscope to see those.

I agree. Sure appears the beautiful patina 'carried' this one.

Not everyone is getting the shaft on grades. This one jumped big and CAC likes the 67+.

Wow! I doubt this coin will be cracked to try for 68 any time soon! Thanks for the skinny, Wabbit.

Not that my opinion matters, but it would be worth $3.5k max to me. The $13k price guide value is a fantasy - there are no auction records to support that number and MS67s are selling in the low 2k range.

Well, there is one auction record at $130K so it’s hard to argue $13K is too high. Clearly that coin in that grade is hard to price. I have no idea what a white one is worth (e.g. how much of the price of this example was toning vs. registry points).

Also, “low 2K range” is inaccurate. They have sold between $2230 and $3640, with an average of about $2750 over the past 5 sales.

If the hammer price was $110,000, that means the buyer paid $129,250 with the buyers' fee. Why hasn't anyone brought that up? Is the buyers' fee just a throw away these days? At almost $20 grand that buyers' fee is close to a third of the gross income for the average American family.

If I broke that money up into 20-25 coins, heck 50 coins, a 58 Franklin wouldn't even be on the list.

But in this hobby you could have that kind of money in a sac dollar collection if you want. To each their own. I try to keep my mind out of their peoples pockets (wasted energy) and just work my own corner.

That post did not deserve a sneering response. Maybe $19,250 doesn't seem like much money to some people, but it does to me.

A sigh is not a sneer. And $19,250 is OBVIOUSLY enough money that most people are not going to ignore it when they calculate their bids.
