Great advice on the star cards. I usually go for the higher pop commons of a set first to move myself up on the registry... (Probably not the most sound strategy, but...) I'm also running into the "hot buyer" on almost all of the 10s from PWCC for the past few months. I tried for a nice Killebrew PSA 10 last month that just got too expensive.

Anyway, that's why I have been active on this forum, to keep my patience and interest high for this set. Agreed on 4SC too. I have found some good cards there as well for other sets so I'll keep it in mind. Feel free to PM, if you have any advice that you don't want to blast on the forum.

@Paulmaul nice hits on the submission! I have mine from my last PSA renewal that I need to send in before the end of May. Unfortunately, most of my raw cards are 1980s...

    Cheers all!

Nice nice I got 1100 raw 1990-2009 cards it kinda sucks because nobody's buying them sets anymore unless its Jose Uribe or someone special i only got one of his cards where he's holding two bats instead of one..and Mike trout i think his name is my friemd actually gots two mining babe Ruth's ill post them he only wants 300$ for both

I’m convinced it’s punishment bidding at this point.

Looks like the perfect storm for the seller, two guys running each other up. I know Matt (seller) was a member here at one time

I know RedSox cards tend to trade artificially high because of all their fanatical collectors/fans, but this is ridiculous.

This 0***y is the same guy who has been doing this for the last year. He puts excessive proxy bids in at the beginning of the auction for cards he wants and keeps sweetening them as necessary. I can only imagine this other bidder finds that annoying and is putting in punishment bids to run him up without really any fear of winning the card at these outlandish levels.

And the last three Cater 9s have averaged $45.

It’s really comical if you look at the bids. By laying down a second proxy bid before the current one is exceeded, he’s begging to be run up.

Didn’t know this thread existed. Love the 72 design..always been my favorite year since my older brother sold all of our 72s when I was 2 years old to a friend for a crisp 20 dollar bill. If anyone is looking to sell and hofers with a PSA 10, please pm me.

I have a complete run of all the "In Action" cards in PSA 9. These were my favorites from the set.

Some of those are the toughest in set to find in 9’s, besides the big $$ HOF Mays and Aaron, Blue, McRae, Schaal, and Barton come to mind

Another example why sniping instead of bidding early is a much better strategy.

He also needs to learn to hang guys out to dry once in awhile if he's going to bid early... Bid that Cater up high, but just a little short, and let someone else sit on it for $295.

The 1972 low population scene is dry as a bone out there... Someone list something interesting!

4SC has had its 1972 Topps stock whittled quite a ways down.

    Set break! Who's got one?

Yah, I haven’t bought a card in months. We just have Probstein’s overpriced 10s and the same old recycled junk that’s been on eBay for years.

What's the story with the Expos Team Card? Is it possible to find a PSA 8 without that horrible tilt? I see that there are 12 PSA 9's. I'd love to see what one of those looks like.

They are probably mostly all exactly 60/40 with varying levels of unattractiveness. That’s the problem with low pop cards....they’re low pop for a reason, and that increases the chances of marginal examples in the higher grades.

I'm with ya. I think I like low pops better than stars. But it seems to me most low pops are available with centering that's at least subpar. It's just a matter of waiting for one to come along that you can live with. I don't think I've ever seen an Expos Team card without that tilt. I think I'll take a look at VCP tonight and see if I can find a nice example.

fwiw, after looking at images on VCP, I feel that there are indeed some palatable looking 8's out there. The VCP average for a PSA 8 is at $73.90, surprisingly low for such a condition sensitive card. Interestingly, the last non-BIN closed on July 3 at $53. No offense to the winner or the seller, but it was a truly ugly copy.

This was my favorite PSA 8 shown that went for $108.39 back in 2014.

The tilt is definitely there, but minor enough that I could live with it. There were also a handful more with a little more tilt that I also liked.

Of the 12 PSA 9's, there were images of 5 of them on VCP. Some of them changed hands a time or two. Maybe one of these 9's would be too tilty for me. There hasn't been a PSA 9 on eBay (BIN or straight auction) since November of 2016. The VCP average for a PSA 9 is $288 and the last three have gone for just about the same amount. This beauty sold for $287 in June of 2016.

So I guess if one can be patient, a nice copy will surface eventually.

I can’t stand the tilt, I’d rather have worse centering without tilt. Though the above 9 is pretty nice. Having the bottom border be of uniform width seems unattainable.

Speaking of cards that are harder to find centered, that is a sharp #150 Norm Cash up for auction right now.

I take it you don't have this card in your set yet? I don't think it's possible to get this card without any trace of a tilt. Are you eventually going to bite the bullet and grab the least offensive candidate in your eyes?

I see on the other board you're looking to jump in to another set. Can I ask how close you are to finishing the 72's?

I can't say for sure... I thought I would have let go by now, but I'm still plugging along. There's a few more cards I'd like to add before I feel completely satisfied, but at some point I'll just need the money. Let's say six months.

Sorry. I meant how many cards did you need. But from your answer I'm assuming your set is complete and you're just upgrading?

This set has been a pleasure - I've enjoyed it more every year for all eleven years.

Very impressive. With an eleven year journey, it must have been a labor of love. It's got to be hard to say goodbye.

Does that mean you're ready to start the 67 set?
