Well that sucks, i was looking forward to seeing Gronk,Edelman & Cooks all on the field together. With this trade happening the Gronk trade rumors are less likely to happen now. Belichick now has two 1sts & two 2nds to hopefully rebuild the defense with.
Looks like NE gets #23 & a 6th round pick, Rams get Cooks & NE's 4th round pick.
So I bet the Rams are out of the ODB discussion now? Unless they go after him too, the Rams are putting together a great team. I respect what they are doing for sure.
I bet Brady is done after this season, I think the Pats will be good but the transition is starting to take form. They have lost some big talent and haven’t made any moves that suggest they are trying to stack the team for another Super Bowl run
Unless Brady's play starts to take a huge dip i don't see him gone after this season. He's been so set on playing till he's 45 and after they just traded Garoppolo so Brady can keep playing,i don't see him just leaving BB & Kraft high & dry by retiring. The only loss that really needs replacing is Solder at left tackle and they now have an extra 1st to possibly grab a tackle.
Erik, Malcom Butler will not be easy to replace. And losing Amendola to go along with Cooks is not all that easy either, these guys know the Pats system, not all guys buy into the Patriot way nor is it guaranteed they will learn the system either.
Butler's replacement is Eric Rowe who has been in NE for two seasons already while Jason Mccourty takes over Rowe's 3rd CB spot on the depth chart. Butler is one of my favorite players but he had a pretty subpar season compared to his previous two.
Losing Amendola might hurt on 3rd down but its not like they don't have guys who aren't already great in those spots with Gronk,Edelman,White & Hogan.
Hogan was the deep threat before Cooks came to town so they're not losing much by dealing Cooks. They also have Britt & Dorsett who weren't in NE for the previous training camp to learn the system, who knows how they look with a full training camp to learn it.
In the end the Pats will still be a top 3 offense this season and they'll find players to replace the production they let leave in free agency so Its not like we haven't seen this movie before. Now if BB trades Gronk you'll see me at the front of the lynch mob heading to Foxboro.
My biggest worries with this team right now is who plays left tackle and can they find another LB to line up with Hightower & Van Noy? They have 4 picks in the first two rounds so they have a good chance of finding those two positions with them. We'll also probably see one of those picks get dealt to move back and add another mid-round pick or two. The Left Tackle is their biggest hole to fill and BB's history of drafting a left tackle was using a 1st or 2nd to get his guy(Solder & Matt Light before him)

Cooks was gone as soon as he tried to hurdle that guy near the 10 yard line in the Super Bowl instead of putting his head down and getting a first down.
Hate to say it because I am a big Gronk fan but Pats will be fine even if Gronk goes. They won a Super Bowl without him after all.

Sorry to disappoint you but Bill is going to swap all the 1stand 2nd round pics for a multitude of 5th and 6th rounders then draft the entire Rutgers squad.
Those will all be long snappers and special teams guys
Any GM who trades with Belichick in my opinion is a glutton for punishment. Belichick will always get the best of them - the guy is a stone cold genius.
The Garoppolo deal was a unique, special situation because of Brady...nothing else is, including Gronk.
All of us arm chair generals can make all the predictions we want and all of us don’t have clue #1 as to what Big Bill and the Pats are going to do. As shrewd as Belichek is he could have done better with the Jimmy G trade than he did regardless of what anyone will ever say or speculate
I like the Jordan Mathews signing, he performed really well until he landed in that disaster area called Buffalo. He will take over that slot area very well and compliment Edelman. He should rebound with Brady throwing darts to him
I'm looking forward to seeing what the dollar amounts are for Matthews & Niklas. Trading Cooks freed up just under 8.5M and if i had to guess, those two signings probably came out to roughly half of that 8.5 maybe 2/3rds at most. I'm hoping we see a few more OL/Defense additions before the draft.
Leave it to the Browns to look to screw it up. LOL
The height thing is overblown, Russell Wilson is 5-11 and Drew Brees is 6-0. If Mayfield can play thats all that matters,I was just trying to say he shouldn't go #1 when they could probably move back in the top 10 and still get him.

Yea, but ya gotta play the percentages in a situation such as this when there is no "standout'" QB.

As I was speculating earlier in this thread, it's beginning to look like the Giants will in fact take Barkey at #2. Very rare to get a 3-down back who can also catch the ball. If I'm the Giants, I'd go with the sure thing, rather than try to pick the right head out of the 4-headed monster and give Eli a couple more seasons as the starting QB before finding his replacement. And the Giants are in desperate need of a legit back.

Investing that much in a RB is foolish, they get hurt and to tie up that much money in that position is tough. RB’s are out there, the OL is far more important to a team being able to run than a 3 down back

Giants will pick a QB or Chubb at #2
The Browns will take a QB at #1 - that's a given, knowledgeable football fans all understand this by now. If it's the QB that the Giants wanted, then I think the Giants will take Chubb instead of a QB. However if in the Giants evaluation they still really like the second best QB in the draft, then it's a tougher call, and they might go QB at #2.
