    PhilL - With dimes that nice, I wouldn't sweat the halves.

    Jeff, I forgot to mention when you brought out that '09-O I wanted to comment on how the picture you are showing is so much better than the auction picture. I can finally see the coin for what it really is... nice coin in a bit tougher grade than typically seen.

    Thanks for the kind words on the '09 O, Tim. I'm taking coin photography seriously.

    I was fortunate enough to win a Heritage Auction last week for a 1892 O Quarter:

    This upgrades the AU 55 in my set.

    My Barber Quarter sets now have 2 new 1913 P mints. First, a PCGS AU 50:

    I purchased this one at a Heritage Auction last week. It plugs a hole in the Everyman set- now down to just the Big 3.

    I also received a '13 P Quarter back from the grading room last week, a PC MS 64:

    This is the ine I purchased raw a couple of months ago with really ugly toning. I know most of you will think I ruined the coin by giving it a light MS 70 bath, but I couldn't stand the thought of the coin being holdered in such an ugly state. Miss Liberty still has a complexion problem.

    Jeff I hate to say this, but that is about the ugliest 64 I think I have ever seen. :/ Maybe it looks better in hand.

    OK, but I don't believe I'll be submitting it to CAC.

    On the other hand, in this day and age of social acceptance should a pretty lady with an obvious complexion issue be socially shunned? I say no.

    I found a 1911 S Half in a PCGS XF 45 holder at a Heritage Auction last weeek. Upon close inspection of the mintmark it looked like there might be something going on so I bid on it (low) and successfully won the auction. Here it is:


    Not a bad lloking coin except for the war paint on the cheek.

    It looks like a repunched mintmark to me. I'll be sending it off to our hosts for variety attribution.

    I’m keeping it; it’s a tougher one to find. But not as tough as the ‘92 DD; I’ve not seen one or known of anyone that had one. The only photo I can find of it is in Cherry pickers, and its so bad I have no idea what the variety looks like.

    Has anyone reading this seen the ‘92 DD Half variety?

    Jeff - From what I can recall, your '13 in MS came out pretty well from its bath. Neat RPM on the 11-S.

    Was anyone here at the Knoxville show yesterday? I signed up for the BCCS there yesterday and met lots of people. For whatever reason, I forgot to chat about the coin forum to put names/faces with avatars.

    Nothing in the Barber realm. It was really only a "sell coins" for me show. Mission accomplished and did even pick up a few odds and ends.

    Agree. the subtle crescent of color on the upper portion rim of the obverse is beautiful. Luster is awesome. Thanks Vern for sharing. Same can be said for the reverse.

    Perhaps this one will fill the bill. I purchased an 1893 O Half a few weeks back with a defective planchet, the beginning of mumps, and a very weak strike:


    Currently raw, I intend to submit it to our hosts for grading. Although it doesn't look cleaned or otherwise messed with, I suspect it will come back in a details holder due to the defective planchet.

    As many here probably know, Joe W (beancounter) is selling a good part of his collection, as it turns out, through JJTeaparty. I'm glad to say that so far, two of his halves have come my way, a 1900-O in 40 and a 1902-O in 45. I won't have any pics until I return to the cold of Illinois next month.

    Three days with no Barber posts?? Unacceptable!!! :D

    This one is slabbed by our friends across the street as a 64...

    My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.
