Only problem with that is that $3 is too much for a dime or nickel and they won't sell any and $3 is way too cheap for the half and the cent and they'll sell out in 2 minutes. If they put cents up at $3 each, I'd by all 25,000.

I'd also point out that splitting up the sets and repackaging the coins as singles again drives up costs and causes the Mint to lose even more money.

It won't happen, but the only alternative that actually allows the Mint to recoup money at little cost is to sell the pile of returns, as is, to re-seller. The same option every retailer from Nordstrom's to Walmart uses, by the way. You can buy truckloads of returned merchandise: everything from panties to TVs because the retailer wants to just recoup what they can and not sink any more money into rehab/resale.

Now, Overdate makes the best point about reputation. Nordstrom's will often cut the tags off their returns before they sell the truckload so you don't know it's their garbage. And that is not an objection to be taken lightly. But, it's not an objection that exists in the non-collectible market. Have you ever been mad at a retailer for having an end -of -season sale on a shirt you bought 3 months ago at full price?

The prices these went for on Ebay over the weekend are pretty ugly. A graded 70 quarter set closed at $42.

The set prices seem to have stabilized at $130-140 NGC and $180-$200 PCGS. Frankly, there's soooo many 70s in these sets, I would expect that the set price and the box price will get closer over time. [That's why I'm not "investing" in any sets. Just my opinion.]

You didn't say, but the quarter set is NGC, probably. PCGS quarter sets are more than that. The full set of NGC 70s are trending at about $130. But the cent is $40 and the half is $25-30. The quarter sets aren't worth more than $40-$50 and unlikely ever to be. They aren't the key to this set. IMHO.

Prices of raw sets are fairly firm at around $35. Price-wise, I consider them better values than graded sets at the moment.

When will we see the new Mint numbers for this set? Tomorrow?

My last strike sets finally shipped yesterday. Interestingly, there's a map on my FedEx tracking page, showing the destination, and where the package is now. It'll be interesting to see how often the map gets updated. (I doubt it's real time, but it'll be interesting to find out...)

We'll learn more when the sales report comes out this afternoon.

But frankly, if they reappear, I expect 25,000 of them to reappear not the dribs and drabs. JMHO.

that's because I think they sold most or all of the 225,000 and the mint is still confused, will remain confused until the audit, then the numispress will get wind of the change the same way we do, and finally we'll all know at the same time through the same method.

I'm going to guess 201k...but no official sell out for WEEKS.

That's going to be close just based on last week's numbers. Obviously, the fewer the better. But until the Mint actually tells us whether they are going to sell to 225,000 or not, it's kind of academic. And I'm 99.99% sure we will learn nothing about that today.

UPS has a truck tracker which is absolutely real time - in case you want to rob the truck. I could watch the package all the way to my door. I saw the truck on my street and 15 seconds later the doorbell rang.

Kind of fun. Especially if you have other things to do and want to know how long you have.

UPS truck tracking is not available for all service levels. Only for the top fastest levels. I wish it was available...for FedX too. I guess they want it as a reason to purchase their more expensive service. But UPS, and FedX, know where all their trucks are at all times. They just aren't telling you unless you pay. "Between Noon and 5:30" will have to suffice for us unwashed masses.
