1945-2017. RIP

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭

My mother passed away, with me by her, Friday morning....due to complications from COPD and Chemo treatments for cancer.
She was strong, opinionated, and loyal to friends and family. It's been hard.

I was going to stay off the board, as I have been dealing with her issues for awhile now, as a few forum members knew, but she was also one of the ones who encouraged me to be involved in numismatics.

We never had money growing up. Grandma and Mom would use the old Whitman books and collect from change (working in small retail places or just in change in general). Sometimes, that change/collection went to feed us and it would be started again, later.

When she was better, she liked the Walking Liberty design. It was also on the SAE, obviously, and she liked that.
I used to get her yearly SAEs as she liked the weight, that it was silver, and she loved the design.

While she was never military herself, all the males in her family were at one time or another (her father and those before him, husbands, sons, her brothers, brother in laws, etc). She also served in every elected role in the local branch of the ladies Auxillary unit for the American Legion, including being a past president. She took it very seriously as the role was to support veterans.

I am working on her memorial for later this month, but would appreciate seeing posts of 1945 WLHs and also a 2017 SAE or two thrown in, if anyone would be so kind.

I just can't do it myself at this moment.

I did, thanks to a forum member here years ago, put together a customer holder to have the birth year halves for her, her children, and her grandchildren. I will be picking that up as I handle her estate. I just couldn't do it the last few days, after I lost her.

Thank you for letting me get this out....it is cathartic, and thank you to anyone who posts 1945 coins (particularly the halves) and 2017 coins (particularly SAEs).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Ron,

I am so very sorry to hear that you lost your dear mother. We have some similarities as I just lost my mother 2 years ago in May, 4hrs before my own birthday. Safe to say I do not celebrate birthdays anymore...or at least for a while as it's too hard. My mother was also the one who started me in numismatics, and I cannot thank her enough. It has turned into a lifelong passion.

I hope you find some comfort knowing that the coin collecting bug your mother gave you is now one you are installing into Ronnie Jr. I get a sense that you are great father, because you had a great mom.

    Many condolences my friend.

    Later, Paul.

@Bochiman I am so sorry to read of your loss. Losing your Mother is a just awful. Keep your memories of her close. Every time you look at a SAE or Walking Liberty half dollar, think of her.

So sorry, for you and your family. Never is easy and memories will always be there. Here's a dime from '45, likely she spent this one in her childhood.
