That's funny JBN. I was just thinking that same thought one minute ago. If that's only a 45, it deserves at least a CAC gold sticker on it.

Jim - Don't know if it's ever been to CAC. I know it wasn't beaned when I took the pics.

Ron - That's a beautiful proof newp, congratulations.

Mike - Your grandfather must have been doing all right, to be able to keep the 50 cents during the depression. That was a lot of money then. Neat token.

Hi Fellas, it's been a few months since I've read the thread. As always, too many neat coins to comment on, but I did like the 64-S half in VF a few pages back.

Vern has been posting many of my half dollars, but sadly, I decided to sell that collection. JJ Teaparty did a fine job with that consignment. About 80% sold, and I just got the rest back.

I decided about 2 months ago to start a seated dollar collection, from F15 to XF-45, nice original coins with good surfaces and rims. So far I've found.......none.

Luckily, I have a friend named Doug, who recently sent some spare quarters, so I got my coin fix! Thanks!!!!

1859-O 50C MPD WB-102 PCGS AU50 (Unattributed - Top Pop) There are Two attributed coins listed in PCGS Coin Facts (VG-08 and VF-30).

PUP - Extra "9" is below the existing "9" in the date, partially within the denticles. A trace of an extra "1" is present to the viewers left of the existing "1".

oih8 - neat variety, the prominent 9 coming out of the denticles reminds me of one of my favorite Indian Cent varieties, the 1870 with the 0 misplaced similarly.

    Nice coin.

PCGS survival estimates are so way off for many dates that they can't be trusted.

Curious as to what you base that statement on? Is there a more accurate online source and/or what source do you personally use/trust for specific coin survival rate estimates.

Jim - It seems to me survival rates are only as good as the depth of the experience of the person making them.

Vern - I'm sure you are right. Don't you think that the PCGS graders and "survival est." analysts would have a pretty good grasp of a specific coin's availability though? If not, do you know of a better source for that info that I can check out? Thanks.

Jim - I think the population reports are the best source of information available, but they have to be tempered by the type of coin involved. Unfortunately, I do not know of any better source of information.
