PC25 is shorthand for PCGS VF25

    ...and now it's gone (What's "PC25"?)

Here's a recent purchase from Gerry Fortin. It resides in a 1989-1990 era PR64 OGH, and the two marks in the image are not on the coin. This is the first proof half dime I have acquired in about 7 years, and it's a real tough one with an original mintage of 470 pieces.

Fastfreddie noted the unusual MM on the 1873-S qtr I posted on 4/1. Here's the one from Doug's collection for comparison, PC45:

Comparing the two they appear to be the same die pair with the first from Walt shows more wear which may be distorting the 'small tapered "s" (Squat) of die pair 2-B. Interestingly, there are only two die pairs noted by Briggs but if you line up the right side of the mintmark of each to their respective denticles, Walt's example bisects them while Doug's example splits them.

    Any concurrence?

    PS. Nice proof Ron!

I don't know about "common", but should it be a recognized variety? Great conversation starter for sure!

I'll add a few more to keep the thread rolling along. This is an 1846 tall date (VF30...my grade) I purchased as part of a 2-coin set along with a nice 1853 A&R quarter in F12 off of Ebay for a steal. PCGS Coinfacts lists this at $400, but they're nuts. It's one of the whackiest values and pop estimates I've seen in Coinfacts for SLH and there are a lot of them. Can't complain because Coinfacts is very useful, overall, and now free.
