Nice overstrike. Was the host 2 Centimos? Do you know the reason for the overstrike? Revaluation or a mint error?
Yeah, this is KM178 1942 5 Centimos overstrike KM144 1903 2 Centimos. Krause doesn't provide much information, but this is very likely revaluation due to the financially stressful years between 1914 and 1925. A note below KM144 reads 274,342 of this type were used as planchets for KM178 in 1942.
An inexpensive, low grade example of a rather scarce 8 reales type from the newly formed Republica de Colombia. I believe these were minted in Bogotá, the principal mint in Cundinamarca Department. Later issues would have the Ba mint mark.
I love the sunfaces! I bought this one on a total whim YEARS ago (I was walking around the Baltimore bourse with extra dollars in my pocket after not finding what I was supposed to be looking for). I would like to think I'll get more someday...maybe a sunface type set? Or, a 'sunface from every country that has one'?
As it stands now, this is what would be in my "Lord Marcovan Inspired Eclectic Box of 20". Instead it resides in "Stork's Box of Extra 50 or so".

Okay, that's odd. Did photobucket just shrink it? Is there a new photobucket setting now?
edited to try again (looks like PB decided to default to a smaller upload size...hopefully this is a bit bigger, but maybe someone can tell me who is hosting their photos (free) so they can be saved a bit bigger.
Newp and not a great looker but a scarce two year type that allows me to complete my goal of having an example from each mint that produced Charles III portrait 8 reales.
If I remember correctly, the change in mintmark from "G" (as in your example) to "NG" used in the later portrait series was due to the mint being destroyed by a series of earthquakes and the whole city relocated away from the mountains. The new name, Nueva Guatemala, is represented by the NG mint mark.
Same with me, nothing to post, but enjoying the beautiful coins!
Interesting 1 Peso, Stork. Boosibri, you sure spoil us with those fantastic CRO (and possibly Dave Wnuck coins?). (I also appreciate the 2R counterfeit). Jgenn, nice early date. I assume they are tough in that grade that nice? TwoKopeiki, always look forward to your postings and pictures.
BS collector, Please tell me more about that 1849 AMERICA Central piece. Looks very interesting....
Persuing choice countermarked coinage on 2 reales.
Enjoyed numismatic conversations with Eric P. Newman, Dave Akers, Jules Reiver, David Davis, Russ Logan, John McCloskey, Kirk Gorman, W. David Perkins...

Does this look like an over date 1743/2?

Here's a recent inexpensive addition from overseas. It's an over-assayer and a different reverse die from what I have currently in my set.

Pretty coin!

How about Central America?
Nice overstrike. Was the host 2 Centimos? Do you know the reason for the overstrike? Revaluation or a mint errror?
1824 Mexico 8 reales, Mexico City mint
Jack, awesome Hookneck! M013 / MA13 die combination, if i'm not mistaken.

Thanks Roman, I don't have a reference book for Cap and Rays issues so I really appreciate the info.

Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.

Maybe a contemporary counterfeit Mexican 2R with a Lima assayer and magic date which likely originated in New York

Boosibri - that's a beautiful sunface in great condition! Can't see the counterfeit from work (some image sites are blocked).
