Justin- you were correct. I contacted the Reristry folks and received very detailed instructions on how to get a coin that should fit into a Registry slot to become eligeable. It worked!
Thinking of my mentor MFH I purchased a few colorful raw Barber Dimes at FUN last month. They came back from grading over the weekend. First up a Crayola 64 1892 MS 63:

Mike, on your 1893-S AU58 CAC, at first glance the mintmark looked backwards, but after taking in some coffee, the lower portion looks stronger than the upper and almost looked like the bottom of the "S" touched the "D" in DOLLAR. It might be too early for a Tuesday for me.

I got my recent raw submission back from PCGS grading room; only one Barber, the 1907-S Quarter in UNC details ( "92" ) that I picked up from Paesan - at the Ft Myers Fall Coin Show. I knew it wouldn't straight grade, I didn't care, the reverse was an MS 64. The obverse was wiped. If it were an AU 58, it's price would have been prohibitive. Still...you never know, another raw example could be lurking out there, I just need to find it before Jeff takes another "Leap of Faith". That guy's real quick !!
If any one is looking for a 1910 Half in PCGS 58 CAC - there is one Listed in Legends sale ( lot 232 ) .... Also listed are some others that will make all our mouths water.... Not just Justin's ! Knock out Nickels, Dimes and Quarters too. Too many to discuss here.

A couple of weeks ago, I submitted 43 coins to CAC and yesterday, I received the results:
26 Passed 0. Exceeded 17. Did not CAC
Biggest disappointment was my new 1909 Half in PCGS 65 and the 1894-P Half in PCGS 58 as well as the Surf City 1898-S also in PCGS 58, that did not Pass.
Come to think of it, only XF's & lower end AU's passed, none of the 58's in the Halves. A consolation was my newest 01-S Half in PCGS 53 did pass - if it didn't I would have thrown up my hands in disgust. Justin will be happy to learn that my 1905-O Half in 45 did pass as did the 04-O in 40.
Paesan will be glad to hear the 12-D Half I bought from him in PC 55 did pass. Thanks, Lenny. My Dime from Glenn - 02-S in 58 also passed. No surprise, but my 1901 Philadelphia Quarter in PC 63+ passed ... It's a gorgeous coin for sure.
Lots of others, but time constraint this morning. My female red Doberman has to have an MRI this morning, as she's developed a serious walking problem. I adopted her a year and a half ago. We estimate her age at 5 yrs old .... Hard to tell....she was found in the mountains of Wyoming and brought to Boca Raton where her new adopter died of a stroke after having her for only a few months. Yup, I'm her third owner (or 4th but who's counting ? ) and she is the sweetest gal !! Sticks to me like glue. She adores my black male Dobie, and until recently, would rough house play with him during the day and our daily trips to the dog park. It saddens me no end to see her like this. We'll see what the MRI shows. Her surgeon is well known in Naples, and I am hoping that the eventual spinal operation is a success !
The only new coins on the horizon will be pretty, just not expensive. That's if I ever find any nice ones !!

You've taught me more than you'll know over the last 5 years of our friendship. You're a wealth of knowledge and a great guy to boot! ANYONE would be lucky to have you as a friend and mentor; I can see the line forming......
As an example, you've turned this entire herd onto some great coins available in the market tonight. Most would bid silently hoping for a lot of steals, but you choose to share you're knowledge. You're a better man than you give yourself credit for.

Jeff, Thanks for the compliments, however you are an apt and fast learner. My contributions to this thread ( and you by default ) have been for the pure joy of numismatics. Locating a choice coin - especially if I already have a nice one of that date & MM - and notifying my fellow collectors gives me almost as much pleasure as locating one for myself. Lenny has mentioned numerous times, it's not the coin in collecting, it's the friendships we make along the way.
Sharing our hobby with others of the same ilk is what collecting is all about. The people we meet in this hobby are a wide and diverse group of individuals who, under normal circumstances would otherwise have little in common with. The time I have spent here, and at shows, has been enjoyable. If anyone has the opportunity to go to either or the two Summer Seminars at the ANA in Colorado Springs, I strongly encourage you to do so. My friend, Glenn Holsonbake was responsible for me to be a Co-instructor for the Coinage of Charles Barber in 2012 & 2013. It was an experience that I won't soon forget. The "love of coins" permeates thru out the whole campus ( Colorado College ) and I see impromptu gatherings of YN's ( and a few of us Old Timers too ) gathering after dinner and discussing coins, die varieties, grading, and a wide variety of numismatic subjects.
Update on my dog, Ginja ( for those interested ). Her MRI went smoothly and she had no adverse reaction to the anathesia - the results were she has a pinched nerve at C-6 and C-7 in her spine. I am waiting for the surgeons to consult on her case and get back to me. It's either remove a disc or fuse the two .... I have no opinion as I am not a doctor. I have to leave this to the professionals. I'll abide by their decision. In the meantime, she has to keep it easy and no rough housing with her male Doberman companion.
Nothing new to report. Another submission to CAC to resticker eight coins that I had reholdered at PCGS.

Went to the Charlotte Coin Club's annual show yesterday. Nice, well run show that I would recommend to anyone in the area. John Frost had a Barber Coin Collector's Society Table there, where I was able to spend considerable time with John and Walt K. Also met Ken from Texas, and Robert, who had his raw set of barber quarters with him. Was glad to see Darrell and his amazing inventory of barber halves, as well as his latest + graded half. Congratulations Darrell.

Quiet down here, still trying to get warmed up since the abnormally cold weather we've had.... Quess we are much more fortunate than most of the country. My family in Boston has gone thru some tough weather. Moving to Florida for me was due to the Snow, pure and simple. I never want to deal with that stuff, ever again !

I don't know that I see the third strike either, but my up close eyesight isn't the best. Is there such a thing as a '92 DDR?
Mike - Wasn't such a long drive. Been in Greenville, SC, avoiding the cold of northern Illinois. Walt is starting to get back in the swing of things with his seated quarters. It'll be good to have him active in coins, he always livens things up.

I also wondered what ever happened to Scott. We did some horse trading here and on eBay. I know he had a Livery business in greater Boston ( not Uber ) and during the Winters, he vacationed in Florida, not far from me. He disappeared and have not heard anything from him in ages.
As far as Walt is concerned - he's like the Whirlwind.... Glad to hear he's still working on the Seated Quarters .... There are too many tough coins in that series, which is why I only played in that field a very short time. I knew i would never complete the set to my satisfaction.
Thx, Darrell. She came thru the MRI with flying colors. She's been scheduled for a disc removal to remove pressure on her nerves. ( a nerve is slipping in and out between two discs which is the cause of the symptoms. )

Well after mulling if over for months, I decided to free my Barber Quarter set from their PCGS holders since I never plan on selling them. I saved all of the certification slabs, so I'll still be in the registry under Tohmba. I decided to go the Dansco route, and my initial reaction is I think it was a great decision. Looks so much nicer and I can view it all at once. Here is my pic to share with ya'll! No 1916's in the pic, since they're on their own page.
Ouch! That's a bunch a plastic gone the wayside! I understand your feelings. Did you consider doing a photo album on the registry set? I am pleased with mine and is a very good substitute to visiting them in the bank! Looks like your set has come along nicely!
Nice job... I love seeing coins in albums, but as Darrell mentioned, having the coins in a virtual album is also a good way of displaying them as well.
Dr. Pete once advised me against cracking out my TPG Holders, and I was glad to have listened to him. I was not going to keep the coins "forever" as you mentioned.
I picked up a couple of nice Dimes today - nothing earth shattering, just a few minor "upgrades" { in some cases, downgrades }....

Thanks for the kind words. Nah, I'm cool with cracking all of mine. The 1901-S is a solid VG that was CAC'd and all of the rest are VF's. They arent AU58's or premium grades that are tougher to recreate from a third party. A VF is a VF. And many are premium VF35's, that if were submitted...might go as high as XF45. I appreciate them for what they are and being able to physically look at them in the same spot. A digital album does nothing for me personally.
I like the dansco quarter set. I've been playing with a couple dansco albums and cracking coins out. The enjoyment I get from the album is worth whatever money I could potentially loose by selling. Fun isn't free. This might be the the only hobby out there where you can consider it a failure when you loose money! Interesting.
I'm a PC 53 on the 1892 50c, Jeff. Might go 55 at NGC where details trump luster/surfaces. But it's harder to get higher AU grades at PC even with just little rub when the surfaces are so dull. Different standards, not one necessarily inferior to the other.
I love the 1892 50c in 58 that barberkeys posted.
MFH, better slow down with buying or else it'll take all my vacation days to be able to photograph all the NEWPS. And best wishes to Ginja, Mike. You know I adore that dog. Interesting to me that C6 and C7 affect same limb function in a dog as a human. Evolution is cool.
Steve - What a beautiful set, and I understand completely the joy of seeing them all in an album (or board for us old folks), instead of in all that plastic. And then there's also the pleasure of putting them in the album. Ahhh, the good old days.

As much as I like album collecting, there's still a lot to be said for virtual albums given the financial realities of coins today. I know I really enjoyed putting together my virtual albums, and viewing them still gives me pleasure.

Really sweet 01-o. Has the perfect look. On the Dansco topic, a lot of us still feel great buying raw mid grade barbers so plugging them in the holes is fine. Augmented with a few crack outs never hurts- you'll rarely loose a bunch in freeing a pop 20, $200 coin from its holder. Recently I've been getting some PC 66 Washington .25's as a gift to my 22 year old self, and would love to see them in retro form in an album, but would seriously throw away money doing so, as a pop 500 coin would automatically loose about 75% of its value. But I could do a Dansco set of VG/F junk silver washies to check that list if need be. It's all just stuff in a box!
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
Vern.... You mentioned yesterday that the images of that beautiful 1901-O Quarter - which seem to be showing an AU 58 - are from Doug's collection.
Does Doug still has this coin - or - do you - or - El Paesan - have it ? I picked up a decent one last month at HA's FUN auction - but it doesn't hold a candle to the one you posted.
This morning, I received the Fed-Ex delivery from Sweden of my new 1908-S Dime (PC62) and it's really sweet. Looks much nicer than the grade would lead you to believe. Considering that I bought the coin on Sunday ( Valentines Day ) and having it arrive this morning at 10:30, I think our postal system leaves a lot to be desired. My new 1909 Dime (previously imaged ) has not arrived - I guess because of the holiday - and the great distance it has to travel ( Tampa ). This is the second time I have dealt with this Swedish company and I am very pleased with their coins as well as their service. Oh, they only ship Express Fed-Ex and they charge $19.00 per shipment. However, they take best offer bids too. If you spend over $500, there is no shipping fee.
Yesterday, I also received my new 1896 Nickel in PCGS 63. Looks a point higher, IMHO, and I also received back my 43 coin submission from CAC.
A point of interest when submitting to CAC - while at FUN, I submitted back to PCGS a group of coins that I had bought over the last 5 yrs. these coins were part of my collection which I sold in August, 2011 at Heritage / ANA Chicago. All of these coins ( mostly Dimes in OGH's ) were CAC and I decided to get them reholdered at PCGS with new serial numbers ( minimal reholder charge ). Well, last week, the coins were returned and I in turn, resubmitted them to CAC for restickering.
I supplied xeroxs of the PCGS submission and the a cross reference of the old and the new PCGS serial numbers, along with a cover letter as to why I was doing this. Made no difference to CAC, once the coin is entombed in a new serial numbered holder, all bets are off, it's no longer a simple restickering submission at $3.00 per coin, but is treated as a new submission at $12.50 per coin. ( Collectors do get a small discount at CAC - whereas dealers pay $15 for the same submission whether or not the coin stickers.)
I plan on having the newps and the balance of my Halves sent to CAC for stickering. I figured, "In for a Penny, in for a Pound".
Spotted a nice Quarter in the Legend Vegas Sale this week. I placed a bid and this box appeared, showing who I am bidding against: my old friend, Irv Reichel. I don't think he posts here any longer. He had a nice set of Quarters, but sold them off on eBay....and, I have a few of his coins in my set now. I was surprised to see his bidder name attached to the lot I was bidding on. It's a very small world.

Vern, I agree, that's much nicer than the grade given. I have had my fair share of disappointments with getting my Dimes grades. Coin is too small for an accurate 3 second grade in the grading room. That is a 55 all day long. Nice coin & great date, IMHO

I was at a nice coin show in Spartanburg, SC, yesterday and was pleased to run into collector friend Don R from Knoxville. We've known each other for a long time as Indian Cent collectors, and he is now about finished with his VF barber half set. He's a good guy to sit and talk coins with. It was a successful show from an acquisition standpoint, as I came home with a nice (IMO) 13-S half in 45 from Darrell. Pics will follow when I get back to where my camera is. Thanks again Darrell.

He had it on his website for 31 or 32K before he ran it through the auction. Wonder what kindda deal he had with Heritage.
Mike/Darrell - Harry's micro O is a sign of the market for coins (even for rare keys) that don't have a good look for the grade/price, IMO.

A couple of weeks ago, I submitted 43 coins to CAC and yesterday, I received
the results:
26 Passed
0. Exceeded
17. Did not CAC
Biggest disappointment was my new 1909 Half in PCGS 65 and the 1894-P Half in PCGS 58
as well as the Surf City 1898-S also in PCGS 58, that did not Pass.
Come to think of it, only XF's & lower end AU's passed, none of the 58's in the Halves. A consolation
was my newest 01-S Half in PCGS 53 did pass - if it didn't I would have thrown up my hands in disgust.
Justin will be happy to learn that my 1905-O Half in 45 did pass as did the 04-O in 40.
Paesan will be glad to hear the 12-D Half I bought from him in PC 55 did pass. Thanks, Lenny.
My Dime from Glenn - 02-S in 58 also passed. No surprise, but my 1901 Philadelphia Quarter
in PC 63+ passed ... It's a gorgeous coin for sure.
Lots of others, but time constraint this morning. My female red Doberman has to have an MRI this morning, as
she's developed a serious walking problem. I adopted her a year and a half ago. We estimate her
age at 5 yrs old .... Hard to tell....she was found in the mountains of Wyoming and brought to
Boca Raton where her new adopter died of a stroke after having her for only a few months. Yup, I'm her
third owner (or 4th but who's counting ? ) and she is the sweetest gal !! Sticks to me like glue. She
adores my black male Dobie, and until recently, would rough house play with him during the day and
our daily trips to the dog park. It saddens me no end to see her like this. We'll see what the MRI shows.
Her surgeon is well known in Naples, and I am hoping that the eventual spinal operation is a success !
The only new coins on the horizon will be pretty, just not expensive. That's if I ever find any nice ones !!

Jeff, Thanks for the compliments, however you are an apt and fast learner. My contributions
to this thread ( and you by default ) have been for the pure joy of numismatics. Locating a
choice coin - especially if I already have a nice one of that date & MM - and notifying my fellow
collectors gives me almost as much pleasure as locating one for myself. Lenny has mentioned
numerous times, it's not the coin in collecting, it's the friendships we make along the way.
Sharing our hobby with others of the same ilk is what collecting is all about. The people we
meet in this hobby are a wide and diverse group of individuals who, under normal circumstances
would otherwise have little in common with. The time I have spent here, and at shows, has
been enjoyable. If anyone has the opportunity to go to either or the two Summer Seminars
at the ANA in Colorado Springs, I strongly encourage you to do so. My friend, Glenn Holsonbake
was responsible for me to be a Co-instructor for the Coinage of Charles Barber in 2012 &
2013. It was an experience that I won't soon forget. The "love of coins" permeates thru out the
whole campus ( Colorado College ) and I see impromptu gatherings of YN's ( and a few of us Old
Timers too ) gathering after dinner and discussing coins, die varieties, grading, and a wide variety
of numismatic subjects.
Update on my dog, Ginja ( for those interested ).
Her MRI went smoothly and she had no adverse
reaction to the anathesia - the results were she
has a pinched nerve at C-6 and C-7 in her spine.
I am waiting for the surgeons to consult on her case
and get back to me. It's either remove a disc or fuse
the two .... I have no opinion as I am not a doctor. I
have to leave this to the professionals. I'll abide by
their decision. In the meantime, she has to keep it
easy and no rough housing with her male Doberman
companion.
Nothing new to report. Another submission to CAC to
resticker eight coins that I had reholdered at PCGS.

New Barber Purchases
Went to the Charlotte Coin Club's annual show yesterday. Nice, well run show that I would recommend to anyone in the area. John Frost had a Barber Coin Collector's Society Table there, where I was able to spend considerable time with John and Walt K. Also met Ken from Texas, and Robert, who had his raw set of barber quarters with him. Was glad to see Darrell and his amazing inventory of barber halves, as well as his latest + graded half. Congratulations Darrell.

Quiet down here, still trying to get warmed up since the abnormally cold weather we've
had.... Quess we are much more fortunate than most of the country. My family in Boston
has gone thru some tough weather. Moving to Florida for me was due to the Snow, pure
and simple. I never want to deal with that stuff, ever again !

I don't know that I see the third strike either, but my up close eyesight isn't the best. Is there such a thing as a '92 DDR?
Mike - Wasn't such a long drive. Been in Greenville, SC, avoiding the cold of northern Illinois. Walt is starting to get back in the swing of things with his seated quarters. It'll be good to have him active in coins, he always livens things up.

Jeff, I have seen them graded just a double die, not sure if it's the same or not. Good looking half!
Vern, I'm babysitting Scott's TDR, and I'd like to see him return as well.
I also wondered what ever happened to Scott. We did some horse trading
here and on eBay. I know he had a Livery business in greater Boston ( not
Uber ) and during the Winters, he vacationed in Florida, not far from me.
He disappeared and have not heard anything from him in ages.
As far as Walt is concerned - he's like the Whirlwind.... Glad to hear he's still
working on the Seated Quarters .... There are too many tough coins in that
series, which is why I only played in that field a very short time. I knew i would
never complete the set to my satisfaction.
Thx, Darrell. She came thru the MRI with flying colors. She's been scheduled
for a disc removal to remove pressure on her nerves. ( a nerve is slipping in and out
between two discs which is the cause of the symptoms. )

Nice job... I love seeing coins in albums, but as Darrell mentioned,
having the coins in a virtual album is also a good way of displaying
them as well.
Dr. Pete once advised me against cracking out my TPG Holders, and
I was glad to have listened to him. I was not going to keep the coins
"forever" as you mentioned.
I picked up a couple of nice Dimes today - nothing earth shattering,
just a few minor "upgrades" { in some cases, downgrades }....

Spotted a neat 1908-S Dime in PCGS 62 to upgrade my 58...again, this coin is in Sweden.

I'm a PC 53 on the 1892 50c, Jeff. Might go 55 at NGC where details trump luster/surfaces. But it's harder to get higher AU grades at PC even with just little rub when the surfaces are so dull. Different standards, not one necessarily inferior to the other.

On the Dansco topic, a lot of us still feel great buying raw mid grade barbers so plugging them in the holes is fine. Augmented with a few crack outs never hurts- you'll rarely loose a bunch in freeing a pop 20, $200 coin from its holder.
Recently I've been getting some PC 66 Washington .25's as a gift to my 22 year old self, and would love to see them in retro form in an album, but would seriously throw away money doing so, as a pop 500 coin would automatically loose about 75% of its value. But I could do a Dansco set of VG/F junk silver washies to check that list if need be. It's all just stuff in a box!

Vern.... You mentioned yesterday that the images of that beautiful 1901-O Quarter -
which seem to be showing an AU 58 - are from Doug's collection.
Does Doug still has this coin - or - do you - or - El Paesan - have it ? I picked up a decent
one last month at HA's FUN auction - but it doesn't hold a candle to the one you posted.
This morning, I received the Fed-Ex delivery from Sweden of my new 1908-S Dime (PC62)
and it's really sweet. Looks much nicer than the grade would lead you to believe. Considering
that I bought the coin on Sunday ( Valentines Day ) and having it arrive this morning at 10:30,
I think our postal system leaves a lot to be desired. My new 1909 Dime (previously imaged ) has
not arrived - I guess because of the holiday - and the great distance it has to travel ( Tampa ).
This is the second time I have dealt with this Swedish company and I am very pleased with their
coins as well as their service. Oh, they only ship Express Fed-Ex and they charge $19.00 per
shipment. However, they take best offer bids too. If you spend over $500, there is no shipping fee.
Yesterday, I also received my new 1896 Nickel in PCGS 63. Looks a point higher, IMHO, and
I also received back my 43 coin submission from CAC.
A point of interest when submitting to CAC - while at FUN, I submitted back to PCGS a group of
coins that I had bought over the last 5 yrs. these coins were part of my collection which I sold in
August, 2011 at Heritage / ANA Chicago. All of these coins ( mostly Dimes in OGH's ) were CAC
and I decided to get them reholdered at PCGS with new serial numbers ( minimal reholder charge ).
Well, last week, the coins were returned and I in turn, resubmitted them to CAC for restickering.
I supplied xeroxs of the PCGS submission and the a cross reference of the old and the new PCGS
serial numbers, along with a cover letter as to why I was doing this. Made no difference to CAC,
once the coin is entombed in a new serial numbered holder, all bets are off, it's no longer a simple
restickering submission at $3.00 per coin, but is treated as a new submission at $12.50 per coin.
( Collectors do get a small discount at CAC - whereas dealers pay $15 for the same submission
whether or not the coin stickers.)
I plan on having the newps and the balance of my Halves sent to CAC for stickering. I figured,
"In for a Penny, in for a Pound".
Spotted a nice Quarter in the Legend Vegas Sale this week. I placed a bid and this box appeared,
showing who I am bidding against: my old friend, Irv Reichel. I don't think he posts here any longer.
He had a nice set of Quarters, but sold them off on eBay....and, I have a few of his coins in my set now.
I was surprised to see his bidder name attached to the lot I was bidding on. It's a very small world.

That dime looks much nicer than a 53; I would have guessed a 58. Great color on it.
Vern, I agree, that's much nicer than the grade given.
I have had my fair share of disappointments with getting
my Dimes grades. Coin is too small for an accurate 3 second
grade in the grading room. That is a 55 all day long. Nice coin
& great date, IMHO
I spotted this at Legend - was looking for coins for Srotag's sets,
and came upon a coin that I could actually afford...LOL
This upgrades a nice AU 55 ....

I was at a nice coin show in Spartanburg, SC, yesterday and was pleased to run into collector friend Don R from Knoxville. We've known each other for a long time as Indian Cent collectors, and he is now about finished with his VF barber half set. He's a good guy to sit and talk coins with. It was a successful show from an acquisition standpoint, as I came home with a nice (IMO) 13-S half in 45 from Darrell. Pics will follow when I get back to where my camera is. Thanks again Darrell.
