WOW! some really beautiful coins, love the toned coins. Just got back from a fishing trip, thanks for the replies on my pvc question. I think I will leave it as is, I like the dark toning and I do think it is just toned gunk pushed up to the lettering, thanks to the auction pictures posted by PCGS I can see it's hasn't worsened in the last 5 year.

Horrible images - but I'll take care of that during my next photo session with Valente151....

Thanks for the compliment on my set. And I don't think having a matched set is everything, it's about being happy with the coins you have.
Vern- nice 99 O I guess your imaging all of Keith's coins, I do need to get back to work on my raw set. I just learned to use my Canon camera setup and bought Adobe Lightroom 6, so I plan to begin reimaging all of my coins, an ominous task to say the least.
What's the advantage of Adobe Lightroom 6; I just use the Canon software that came with the camers- it seems to work fine for me (but I don't do much advanced editing). For me the Canon software (especially tethering) is the best reason to use Canon equipment.
Jeff, I always used Photoshop6 to crop out the obvers and revers to make one pic, but the Lightroom6 program gives you complete control over texture, color, lighting, white balance adjustments and a host of other settings like no other program I've seen. I have a Canon XSI with a 100mm macro lens, so the pics straight from the camera are very good, but I always had trouble working with raw pics, Lightroom solved that problem for me and it files and categorizes your pics as you go along.
This is the setup I now have, the new software allows you to make the coin look exactly like it does in hand, although what I perceive it to look like may still differ from someone else.
I did something I didn't think I would do. At least not so soon. I purchased a 1892 S PCGS AU 58 Half.
The coin that started my Barber Half set was a raw 1892 S raw AU Half back in 1981. This was before the advent of Third Party Grading, and as I recall there was no numerical grading system in use at the time.
I was vey proud of that coin; for years it was the showpiece of my VG to AU set resting in a coin album. In 2012 I started submitting my set for grading to NGC; the 1892 S came back as a AU 55. It subsequently crossed at PCGS the same grade:
As I recall the coin was very white when I purchased it 35 years ago, but now it has nice colorful toning. The coin has just enough wear to keep it from being a 58.
I've always loved this coin, and vowed it would be the the last coin in my Everyman's set to upgrade to a 58. That is until last week when I purchased a AU 58 in an eBay Auction at a reasonable price:
Although a bit scruffy, it's a nice coin with PL surfaces. As an added bonus I believe this coin has a DDR (Double Die Reverse), but I can't find any records of such:
Now the tough question; do I sell the AU 55 that I was attached to for all these years? It kind of seems like asking a wife of 35 years for a divorce to find a younger woman. The angst! I really hate keeping both coins, but I may need to.

I have not had a chance to study this Quarterly issue, as 5 lbs of Stack's Bowers catalogs arrived.... If anyone is looking for a nice 1900-S Quarter in a PCGS 58 holder, S/B lot # 32306. I'll hold my tongue on some of the other Barbers I saw. Not saying that all the lots were lacking, just most of the "58" material. I saw a very special Quarter - lot # 16259 - an 1895 Philadelphia in PCGS 66 / CAC . Love it, but too nice for my collection. ( then again....hmmmm !! )

Still haven't landed completely upon a series or set to work on next. Was able to go to a small coin show in West Michigan with about 25 dealers. I hadn't been to one of these in about 2 years. Became reacquainted with some folks there and met some new dealers. Came across one dealer who had a handful of nicer circulated barber halves in VG to F+/VF and I bought some. Also found a 92-S half in G4 with some wearing into the letters on the reverse, but overall nice, original, and the price was fair. I think it would grade G4. Saw a 96-S in VG except for some 6 o'clock rim filing that ruined the coin for me. Then bought four cheap ($25 each) common uncirculated peace dollars not certified. All in all, I spent more time and had more fun than I have in a while at a small show. Once a collector, always a collector.
MFH, read your story in the BCS journal and enjoyed it. Us Barber folk can really tell stories.

A Barber Quarter came back from the grading room recently. I bought a 1914 D Quarter in an ANACS AU 58 holder and cracked it out for a raw submission. It came back as a PCGS AU 58:
The coin has a nice original look to me. My quarter set slowly grows..... Don't worry Lenny.
FINALLY, my internet service seems to be back to normal. Strange thing was, only some sites wouldn't load. HA would but PCGS wouldn't. Go figure.

Thats a great looking 07-s! Certainly has been discussed here before, but this is IMHO the 3rd toughest coin in the series in nice AU after 01-S and 09-0. Love the look on that one!

Recently, I posted a really nice ( medium toned ) 1907-S Quarter that I picked up in PCGS 45 - from our Paesan. It was the closest I could locate after 5 years of looking for an AU example. I had an AU 58 in the set I sold in 2011.... So, I can't blame JMW for buying the AU 50ish with a slight facial abrasion.
No sooner than the 45 arrived - I picked up a nice 65. Once again, the Heir and the Spare !

Nice work LogPotato. Pretty set and a good mix of looks. Esp the 07D and 14S like worn leather. That's the first I've seen columns Total Pop and Total Higher Pop, is that counting NGC and ANACS now? That's eye opening.

Yes, I'm working hard on my seated quarter collection, currently at 87% complete. It's hard being patient and waiting for just the right coins to become available. I've had to relax my standards somewhat.

I sent in 83 coins and received 33 coins with Green Beans.
90% of these coins are Barbers - I received a few good and
not so good surprises.
One coin was beaned [ previously rejected from what the seller
mentioned to me ] - a nice 1908-S Quarter - PCGS 58. No images
yet... but soon !!
Disappointed that the 1909-O Quarter in 58 did not sticker !!
Liking that 1916 Dime in 58... I have been looking for a nice one in 58 myself.

I picked up another nice raw coin this week, an 1892 Half:
Although I'm hoping this will come back as a 58 I think it as good or better chance as a 55.
I'm fairly confident this is the TDR (Triple Die Reverse) variety. Since I don't have one this is a cool find for me!
My '92 Half was graded at PCGS yesterday; it's coming back in an AU 55 TDR holder. I'm happy with that.
Jeff-Will PCGS label it a TDR or do you have to request that?
