    To get them that nice and/or very fine and higher is tough and very underrated. Most should command a premium.

    Ranks at #6 all time for all Liberty seated coinage and is an R6-7 in xf-au and the PCGS population in MS is 1!
    It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.

    I think the 42-O SD is over-rated in terms of rarity as I have seen way too many for the current rarity assessment. That said, this is the nicest piece I have seen in G-VF from an aesthetics POV.

    Thanks for the info and opinions. I bought a very nice VG last year at a reasonable price compared to what I see now. For the grade, I think its a great coin. I just not sure about the value.

    Very tough variety on a common date... 1861 25c type 1 reverse. Pick up point is that the eagles eye is concave and not convex. Only a handful known.

    Here are a couple of rare Seated Half Dimes from my collection:

    First with a mintage of 88,600 a 1858 PCGS XF 45:

    I'm in the process of assembling a circulated set, but with the great number of rare ones it likely will never be complete. Oh well.

    The Seated Half Dime series is amazingly under appreciated. Thanks for the kind comments. I love the history behind coins like this- they all have stories I wish we could reveal. Is there an APP for that?

    Here is my latest pick up from ebay - no major dings for the grade, rich in color, and from the New Orleans mint. Just the way I like them. You can still find some good coins on ebay at a not too unreasonable price. But once listed, they go quick. BTW, I try to not juice my images, these colors are accurate, but perhaps more lively in the right light. And, uploading to PB and downloading these has a tendency to reduce the vibrancy of the colors - my original images are a touch more rich. Also, this XF40 still has a cartwheel luster when rotating under a strong light. image
