too bad the embossed isn't one of the ultra-rare ones.

I haven't been following all the Embossed mess - but there are 2 versions right? One as a box topper that has a description/bio on it (like what Stoney pulled). And one inserted in packs? Are the box loaders #ed to 50? The ones from the packs have a crazy hard odds right?

My case is sitting right next to me here at work...so tempting.

Someone mentioned the card-stock quality being better. Do they have the same feel of the original 65's, or is it still cheaper feeling than that?

Those purple refractors look really cool.

Awesome!! I made a picture like that a few years ago too LOL

Just started ripping my first box.

What stands out the most to me so far is how cool the backs of the cards look. Maybe I'll even put them in my binder backwards image

Still ripping my first box - nothing great yet but these all came from the same pack:

2 card #137s and 2 short prints - maybe this will be a common occurrence but seems a bit different for now

Looks like I had a bad case image Only 1 blue ink auto, no red ink... and 1 box didn't even have a hit (i.e. Game Used or Auto), but it did have an error variation (Trumbo, wrong B-Day)

Four boxes in on my first case. 4 relics. 1 black ref Matt Harvey. 3 refs and 6 chromes. 33 sp's and 3 action variations. Not sure about any other variations.

Gotta say I am not a fan of the photoshopped blurry photos. But the card stock is very solid and the backs REALLY pop. Will make sorting tolerable. Still it's looking like a good set with good collation. Will post pics later.

Not sure if this work or not so I might delete this. Here is my "shot chart" of the first box of my first case. I also made notes on the righthand side. Notice what I got in pack six. Everything is for trade except refractors. They are reserved for a certain board member. I'm only trading for vintage (want list on my web site link below) and any cards from 2014 Heritage of a Jeter and Trout.

Why did Topps use such grainy photos? The 1965 cards had better sharpness. Is it their idea of "aging" the cards? The design is awesome but the photo quality looks cheap.

Mike, what's the story on the two different #137s? Is one a so-called SSP/unannounced error of some sort?

The grainy photos have been around since 2008. Prior heritage years were much better but that's ok

Good find, I too pulled 137, A Gose. I didn't catch it, but now I have more questions. I'm pretty sure we can call 137, the WS game 6 card, the common, if any of the two are. What does card 138 look like, anyone pull one? The checklist shows two 137 cards as shown, but skips to 139, omitting 138 altogether. It's like the WS run was planned for seven cards, but since only six games were played, they just skipped what would of been a game 7. The original 1965 set doesn't do this (132-139).

To be honest, no direction, but...

Gose was supposed to be 138. 138 does not exist. Two 137's do exist. None are shortprinted, variations or intended errors. Topps made a mistake.

Maybe someone can tell me what are the odds on the purple chromes.

I seemed to have opened a box that has a purple in every pack.

Prior 4 boxes had no purples

You have what is a hot box. Every case has one box that has a purple refractor in every pack. So basically 24 purple refractors per case. Just like last year.

Thanks! Are the purple cards 426-500 still considered sp's?
Is it worth the effort to try and complete the whole set in purple?
Lastly if 24 per case what would that put the total print run at approx?

Thanks guys, I'll post trade lists as I finish my case.

I went back and checked the last few years. 2014 Definitely has a more grainy feel to the base cards. I really think it's the washed out back ground colors that's making look and feel more prominent. Some cards seem to look worse than others. I too love the backs, and would've preferred them on the 2013 set. The refractors and particularly black refractors look great!!!! Love the posts so far…really like your Hit Heat Rate Map too Craig.

    Love the backs too...

Half way through - meh some boxes have 1 Action Variation and 8 High Number SPs, a couple have had 2 Action Variations and 7 High Number SPs.

Noticed the 137 on both WS Game 6 and Gose, doesn't appear to be an error.

One ink - Frank Baumann blue ink old timer from the Cubbies. GU - all base Boggs, Posey, Dickey, Stubbs, and Werth

Highlight so far...Box Topper in Box 7 imageimageimageimage

So Kinsler will be in my Chrome Team set, but not my base team set. Vice-Versa with Fielder.... Laziness? Lack of Product Control? Or do the scramble and rush just to get the base cards updated in time for major trades....

I'm done with my first case. I think I did pretty good. :0)

    image

The first card is Andrew McCutchen. This is a SSP error card. It has "Pittsburfh" on the back. Similar to the Harper SSP last year. What's amazing is I pulled Harper last year as well. The card next to it is a Rex Brothers black back. Then I hit the red auto in my sixth pack of the 1st box. Thought that was the best hit on the box but the McCutchen trumped that. Pulled three more autos including Hall of Famer Jim Rice. Then you see a chrome Jeter, chrome Trout, chrome refractor Trout, and then on the last box.... a black chrome refractor of Jeter! 10/65!! Got a coin card of Fielder, Trout Action Image, Harvey logo variation, a Lou Brock stamp card, and a Craig Kimbrel mini numbered 072/100. Had fun with this case on to the next tomorrow. Feel free to PM offers but most of these will be going to the bay. If trading, I only trade for vintage. My vintage want list is below! Sleep time.....

Pretty happy with the collation this year. Exactly 3 boxes produced a base set. Needed every card in the 1st and 3rd boxes. Last card of 3rd box completed the set.

    So far through 3 boxes:

    1 base set
1 Action variation (that I noticed)
    27 SPs (1 dupe)
3 relics - Stubbs, Teheran, Verlander
3 refractors (1 scratched to death)
    5 chrome
7 Then & Now (no dupes)
    9 New Age (no dupes)
    6 1st Draft (3 dupes) total of 3 Bench
    5 BB Flashbacks (no dupes)
    6 News Flashbacks (no dupes)

2 ad panels - unopened but will
1 buyback - unopened but will

I did get quite a few packs with 2 "minor hits" in same pack - double SPs, SP and insert, chrome and insert, etc...
