<< <i>I would be furious if I pulled that McCarver as my case hit. It's bad enough that someone at Topps had the balls to not only produce a card of one of the most loathed broadcasters in the history of the game, but then topped it off by putting a crooked Fleer card in the frame. >>

This is how you create an expensive/ultra rare issue. Stir up a controversy combined with media hype. Brings attention to the product/hobby. Someone out there would love to have this card now that it's caused a controversy. Therein lies it's value. It's called marketing.

Here's the thing. Before fb and twitter we would never have even seen a pic of these 1/1s. Has anyone even seen Pics of prior years heritage 1/1s? I for sure cannot recall seeing any from prior to 2010. But they are out there presumably. I think they are shocked it was a big reaction. 1/1 possibilities are not what drive interest in this product. I don't care if it's josh Gibson or Ruth or George Washington. That possibility is so slim it's not a factor in most peoples buying patterns with heritage. Now maybe on triple threads of other super high end products the 1:1 possibilities drive sales.

Now releasing a cut version of Alex Gordon in 2006 is clearly a ploy. I am not a topps apologist. I know they do it.
  • Mick65Mick65 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭

Sounds like Mickey Mantle and George Bush on the Jeter card all over again.... those crazy kids over there. Gotta love those Gimmicks

Heritage is not immune to the marketing, it just doesn't play to it's core consumer.....does it?
  • Heres a nice non-gimmick card.

Hope to have several of these in my cases!

Did I see there is a Will Clark autograph this year? Is that confirmed? (I know the checklist can change, on occasion.) As you may have guessed, I'd be very interested in acquiring one, should someone be lucky enough to pull a copy in their box/case/truckload.

  • Brentbecca tweeted that the embossed inserts will fall 1:14,667 and only 7 of the 15 will be found in hobby! Some added value to retail.

Sounds similar to last year. Which means basically the Embossed, Logo & Uniforms are not collectible as a complete set and are basically a one-off like the auto relic, oh well.

Craig. Based on your numbers for the minis that's 2.2 million packs. Are the minis hobby only?

If so the. The presses really ran for this. 2.2 mullion is about 400k more than previous years entire run.

    Ouch!

It seems this years Heritage release has a little more flare for the dramatic than previous years, everything from delays to the last minute odds, presale fails and news that embossed cards will be darned impossible to pull.

What does this all entail? More demand or fizzle?

I can't find the mini's as hobby exclusive in the hobby box write ups so far. The Gold Refractors #5, Dual Auto Relics #10, Real One Dual Autos #25, Real One Triple Autos #5 & Embossed #25 are hobby only. I tested those, and if I did it correctly, hobby packs are 846,500

  • Topps Heritage is now live on eBay! Chromes are numbered to 999 again this year - refractors are numbered to 565.

    Craig from Texas
  • If my calculations are correct, then Uniform throwback print run is only 35 cards per player, Logo Variations is 250 per player and Action Image is about 1,475 per player…Hobby print run for the limited #'s is a formula to test the amount of packs released…that's why it's not an exact amount.

    Total Cards Cards/Player
    # of Cards Odds 1: Produced or #d to Exclusivity Print Run
    Minis 100 220 10,000 100 2,200,000
    Uniform Throwback 20 3,175 693 35 2,200,000
    Gold Refractors 100 1,695 500 5 Hobby 847,500
    Dual Autographed Relics 5 16,864 50 10 Hobby 843,200
    Dual Autographs 10 3,386 250 25 Hobby 846,500
    Triple Autographs 5 33,728 25 5 Hobby 843,200

Which is in line for ONE redemption card:

1965 Topps Complete Set Redemption Card 1:809,472

  • Nice work! Remember that none of the odds are going to be exact because Topps holds back some of the product for replacement purposes I'm sure. However, this does give us a great idea of how much product is out there and what to expect.

Based on the Embossed odds, I would think there is zero chance that Brent honors this sale, even assuming he can get them all.

    Embossed set presale

So does this years Heritage print run about equal to past years?
or we looking at a shorter value added run?

how much should single embossed cards sell for?

Just talked to my LCS owner. He doesn't think he is going to get Heritage in tomorrow as it has not been sent. Or at least he didn't get notification. So this puts me in a bad spot. If I don't get hobby tomorrow I will be out of town until the following Sunday. Which means I will not be able to crack any hobby heritage until 3/24. Unless I find a shop where I will be traveling but still I don't want to haul back 4 boxes of heritage in a suitcase.

And found 2 boxes of Leaf Pete Rose Living Legend blasters in the discount bin. 2 more Rose auto's to add to my stuff to sell next weekend at my local show. Not to hijack the thread, but I love the series 1 retail patches this year. There's some really nice ones in there.

The Draft odds are strange. I thought it was a 4 card set, with two per box ?? Twenty four per case, (six sets), couldn't use that slot on some of the other interesting variations or subsets ?? oh well.
