Wow, Hunter missed that ball by just an inch. If he hadn't over-ran it, he might have made the catch. The question would have then bee, would he have held on after landing on his head. Ouch.
Yesterday was a good day to be a BOS sports fan. Nerves may be a tad shot but definitely worth it.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I think he makes the catch if he doesn't overrun it. He also might not have flipped over the wall, the timing and jump would have all been different.
Through seven it's 1-0 Sox. Are hitters jittery on all four playoff teams or is pitching just that good? Pitchers on all teams seem to have found a higher gear!
Peavy did fine vs. TB, but just didn't have it tonight. For some reason he was terrified to throw a fastball. If they were down 2 games to 1 as opposed to leading, Farrell would have been much quicker with the hook.
Pedroia having a tough game in the field. No errors, but those are two plays he usually makes.
I think if the Sox plated Napoli in the second inning, Peavy doesn't shake off Saltalamacchia four times per pitch in the bottom half of that inning and maybe there's a different result. If the guy doesn't have the nerves for postseason play, he should watch from the dugout.
Frustrating game, they had their chances offensively, plenty of guys in scoring position with less than 2 outs, and only got a handful of them home. I'm so tired of them watching good pitches go by early in the count. They've got to be more aggressive.
They are trying to get the Detroit starters to throw lots of pitches and get them out of the game earlier. Detroit counters by throwing lots of strikes early in the count and getting ahead of the batters with lots of strikeouts.
Now must face 3 strikeout aces in the last 3 games, and somehow beat two of them.
I'm okay with the Red Sox taking lots of pitches - that's what they did all year. But it is really frustrating when they can't seem to execute some of the fundamentals. There's no excuse for not bringing in a runner on 3rd base when you've only got one out.
Facing Sanchez, Scherzer, and Verlander means the Red Sox need some October magic. I believe it can happen but I'm nervous that it won't.

I'm generally OK with it, too....except when you swing at pitches out of the zone later in the count. Victorino's strikeout in the 9th last night might have been the worst at-bat of the post-season.
But, no time to complain when you're 1 win away from the Series...10 hits each of the last two nights, seems like the bats are coming around as they see these pitchers more. I think Buchholz throws a gem tomorrow night.
I totally agree about that Victorino at bat. That was horrible. It's okay to take pitches and be choosy, but when if all you're doing is waiting until you have 2 strikes before you swing at anything then it's probably not the best strategy. All he needed to do in that scenario was make contact and put the ball in play and at least give the runners a chance to advance.
That 9th inning was pretty frustrating actually. It started off great. Bogaerts had a good AB. Ross put down a fantastic bunt. Middlebrooks showed a lot of hustle in getting all the way to third on that bunt (something I don't recall ever seeing before). Ellsbury was intentionally walked and then stole 2nd. All of that was good. But it's aggravating to have guys on 2nd and 3rd with only one out and not being able to push across a single run. It didn't end up costing the team a win, but it very easily could have.

The Iglesias error certainly helped...is Pedroia off-the-chart good or what??? Fielder looked like a struggling walrus with the bozo-like bellyflop, waaay short of the bag.
Jumped off the recliner and probably woke up some neighbors when the Victorino bomb went off.
I'm glad the Red Sox were able to pounce early because Wainwright and the rest of the team seemed to settle down after a few innings. We can't count on the Cardinals to keep playing sloppy defense but a win is a win.
I think Lackey has the advantage over Wacha tonight but I'm growing nervous about games 3 and 4 in St. Louis with Peavy and Buchholz . . . hopefully at least one of them will be sharper than they were earlier this post season.
