Allowing Workman to bat instead of Napoli was a stunner!!!!
Earth to Farrell it's the top of the 9th with one out and you want your pitcher, who BTW has never batted b4, 2 face one of the best pitchers in the game instead of a guy who has a bazzillion percent better chance of putting the ball in play, if not out of the park????
MEMO TO RED SOX INFIELDERS....DO NOT...REPEAT, DO NOT play hero ball by throwing to ANY base in the hopes of completing a dicey double play. This memo does not apply to Dustin.
Geez, what a crappy way to lose such a pivotal game. We are now in serious "Cowboy Up" time.
both teams are capable of winning two in a row. If it weren't for sloppy play on both sides, this would be a good series judging from the two games apiece.
Huge game by Sir Lester so far. Clutch AB by Ross - hearing his interviews on MLB Network - ya can't help but like this guy!! 6 outs to go & back to Fenway with a 3 games to 2 lead.
It feels like the old days. I lost hope a few days ago and now I'm overflowing with optimism but still worried about the what ifs . . . Playoff baseball is the best.
It's awesome to see your kitties have become best buddies, zep!
As a random side note, the BoSox haven't won the deciding WS game at home since 1918. For what the community has been through over the past six months, I sincerely hope they get to celebrate in the streets and put horrific memories aside (even if just for a moment).

Barry, I did not get personally effected by the Marathon atrocity so I dont have the right to say thank you for that however I will say thank you for being such a good guy to have that in your thoughts, Im sure this series has brought some smiles to those that suffered.

Red Sox had one guy who stepped up to the spotlight and delivered his team a World Series. No team can brag that much? If I'm a red sox fan, I'd be bragging like crazy. Throw in the fact that they went from worst to first and you're damned right they have a right to brag! (and please, Cardinals fans would be bragging if they had won, too!)
I'm not saying that Boston fans don't have the right to brag about their team... they do. I'm saying that the PLAYERS on both teams (with the exception of Ortiz) can't brag much about their performance in the Series.
<< <i>I'm not saying that Boston fans don't have the right to brag about their team... they do. I'm saying that the PLAYERS on both teams (with the exception of Ortiz) can't brag much about their performance in the Series. >>
When you say PLAYERS, are you referring to pitchers as players too ?
Pitching dominated the Red Sox series against the Tigers and Cardinals. Nothing wrong with that.

I would say Gomes and Victorino had a couple key at-bats despite their low WS batting averages, which I will take over batting .300 from bases empty singles.
All I can say is that looking back at post #1 of this thread ( My post ) just tells you how unexpected this has been, it almost felt like 2004 again! Im at a loss for words on how happy I am that this scrappy bunch of guys just kicked a$$ this year and brought home the FREAKING WORLD SERIES!! Again just UNREAL!
And sure they didnt hit that well and all that but the bottom line is they are CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agreed that this was totally unexpected after the disaster that was the 2012 season. I believe NONE of the "popular sportswriters" picked the Sox to win the WS, let alone the division or even a wild card slot. Fans were likely hoping for a respectable season, I know I was. I had hopes that maybe they could have a winning record. Exceeded expectations is an understatement

Against STL I don't know that I'd call it dominant per se; The Cardinals' biggest problem was LOB. They were hitting but couldn't get the big hits when they needed them.
And all other things being equal including pitching...take Big Papi's contributions out of the equation and Boston loses the WS. Just saying. Maybe he should get to keep the WS trophy as well as the MVP award.
Yeah, it's no real accomplishment to have your pitchers dominate the team that not only finished with the best record in the NL but made it to the World Series. (sarcasm)
<< <i> Against STL I don't know that I'd call it dominant per se; The Cardinals' biggest problem was LOB. They were hitting but couldn't get the big hits when they needed them. >>
The Cardinals were hitting? They batted .224 and finished with a .273 OBP. That's not exactly 'hitting'.
<< <i>And all other things being equal including pitching...take Big Papi's contributions out of the equation and Boston loses the WS. Just saying. Maybe he should get to keep the WS trophy as well as the MVP award. >>
Right, let's take out Matt Holiday and his 5 RBI and the Cardinals get swept. Man are bitter Cardinals fans the funniest!
For an even better time check out the 'Best' Cardinals Twitter Feed. It's an unending stream of Cardinals fans showing they are indeed nothing special. Hilarious.
Winning the WS is a huge accomplishment; I never said it wasn't. What I'm saying is that neither team can honestly say they played their best (except Ortiz). I'm talking about offense btw. Both teams pitched well. I really like Boston's closer. But frankly both teams played better ball in the ALCS and NLCS than in the WS. No one's going to call this WS an offensive showcase by any means.

Who ever refers to a world series as an offensive showcase? It was about pitching and timely hitting, and Boston beat out St. Louis on both counts. The better team won the world series, and that's what matters.

I submit that after looking at the respective offensive anemia (Save for Ortiz that is) and defensive miscues shown in the WS by both teams, there are likely Tiger and Dodger fans that are saying "REALLY? These guys beat us?"

The Tigers played poorly, I will definately admit that on paper the Tigers are the better team but the Bottom line is they got beat.
The Dodgers on the other hand...Well I just hope that punk Josh Becket, that coward Carl Crawford and that laxidasical Adrien Gonzalez just realize that the the biggest reason we won is because we rid ourselves of them! Those guys can svck on that all offseason

On a somber note...we have probably seen the last of Ellsbury and perhaps Drew as well in a Red Sox uniform.
Rest of team... .169
This was a sloppy WS by both teams...Boston was simply less bad. I don't think either team can brag about their performance all that much imo.
