I only caught the last 8 innings of that crazy game. The one thing I noticed was that the 3b & ss bats were pretty waek pitching around Papi has'nt been working out for the other guys lately and Iggy comes in and bats in the 14th and somehow finds himself on base again, but maybe he needed a rest and hopefully he starts tommorrow.
Iggy came in as a pinch runner for Ortiz who was intentionally walked.
He should be playing every day as Drew and Middlebrooks are not hitting that well and his defense is much superior but that will work itself out shortly.
He at least is on the team now.
They are going to have to do something today in the way of pitching as they are very shorthanded right now.
Bailey should not be allowed to close any more games. Maybe they need to be move himto middle relief untill he gets it figured out and let Uehara to be the closer.
Thier starting to look like the sox of old and cant close out a win.
Lackey pitched a great game the other night and should have been allowed to pitch the 9th but got nothing for his efforts because of Bailey.
Edited: just saw the ESPN scroll ticker Bailey has been removed as closer 5 minutes after posting.
I think they should look into trading for Papelbon. I wouldn't want them to give away any of the top prospects but maybe a guy like Almanzar at AA and another player would suffice.
<< <i>FURTHER proof, management reads this forum >>
And if they are............maybe they should leave Iggy at 3rd and have Drew & Middlebrooks share short cause neither one of them are hitting very well.
It's nice to have another guy that plays as hard as Pedroia in the infield.

If they can get him that be great.......They can get rid of Hanrahan,Kalish and Bailey.
They seem to have a pretty low salary and getting rid of those three and spend alittle more they could probally get him.
Webster is pitching today, we shall see how he is progressing. If he does as well as I think he will we will not need to give away some of our prize talent for a guy like Cliff Lee.
Middlebrooks seem to be coming around down in Pawtucket too.
Call me what you will but Im still extremely upset over the BS during Franconas last year, that really pi$$ed me off then to follow it with another garbage season with Valentine got me reeling mad. Bottom line Lackey and a few others were heavily involved in all that crap and to me it was so unaceptable I refuse to believe in these guys and will not get emotionaly involved until playoff time ( If they keep it up ) .
The only one left from the problem team is Lackey. Beckett was the biggest problem. This is a different team with mostly different players that really have a desire to win. I am excited from what I have seen this year so far.
Hard to believe the Sox can have the best record in the AL, and are a distant 4th in the Boston sports landscape....especially for an extremely likeable team.
Their staff is absolutely good enough to get hot and win a World Series. Their bullpen isn't though, so I'm hoping they address that at the deadline.
BoSox coming to town for a three game series against my team, the Oakland Athletics. Could be a postseason preview, and the games should be intense, for July baseball that is.
Red Sox pulling some impressive wins lately and with Ortiz on fire, enjoyable to watch...unless of course you live on the East Coast. I think you West Coast guys should have a mandatory time delay of 3 hours so you can suffer with us with the 10PM starts. I'm generally toast by the 3rd inning...so in the morning I talk to my Galazy S4 to get the score...sweet little voice says "the Red Sox beat the Athletics 4-2"...nice.
Still not liking Lackluster...he has a long way to go to get off my S&%T list. Time will tell. Does Reddick think that beard is really cool? Almost like having a reunion out there with Coco, Jed and the bearded one.
Hope everybody is doing well. We are water logged in GA, but it's better than having a drought for sure.
The 10 PM starts is 8 PM for me but 3 hours later it is still tough keeping my eyes open but I manage.
Lackey is still a lot better than Dempster for sure.
We are not water logged for sure but at least we do get a shower now an again with the monsoon season starting this year. We had not had any rainfall at all this year until last week.
Well, today begins the second half. The Red Sox have the best record in baseball at almost a .600 clip. As I look at the schedule, they may ge a bit of breather in the middle of August, but September could be a tough hill to climb with Baltimore, Yankees galore. Tampa Bay always the lurker is in the mix as well.
I for one was a HUGE pessimist early on and said so. The team has amazed me, but has still let some close games get away, which could have easily padded the lead a bit more. Haven't been up on injuries, but anything can happen. I'm definitely on the band wagon and hope they take it all...seems like the potential is certainly there to go all the way.
Anybody wanna guess where the team ends up and post season thoughts?

It really was not a bad game, it was a well pitched game from the Rays staff but not the Red Sox.
They have to keep beating the so-so teams and split with the good teams.

One can only hope and together we could have a repeat of 2004.
<< <i>Lester looking like a #4 or #5 starter lately. Yuck >>
Could'nt agree more..........mabye they should have him skip his next start when bucholtz gets back.

Good thing we have a good closer now.
Three saves in a row.
His fastball is now up to 95 mph and he is pitching well and now we finally have a decent closer.
Can we all get on board yet.
I am there !
<< <i>I am really starting to become a believer in Lackey.

Agreed hes got it together.
I think Napoli needs to improve his hit's to K's ratio or he needs to sit down and let Carp play.
But other than that I have no complaints............Onward to 100+ W's
Middlebrooks seem to be coming around down in Pawtucket too.
<< <i>who would have predicted that Lackey would be the best and most consistent pitcher on the team this year? Not I! >>
I still dislike this guy, obviously I want him to win the Sox games but he seriously annoys me.
In other news Im still not a believer that we have a championship team.
But GO SOX!

But again...GO SOX! ( Still love 'em )
My source - someone who's in there everyday and has been since 1978
Some of the players have more talent than others but they all have the desire to win and they are winning.
Lackey is one of the reasons why they are winning.
I don't care what he was involved in 2 years ago, we all get caught up in stuff during our lives and all handle our problems in different ways.
We all need to just move on from the old and grab on to the new.
I know I have and am enjoying our new RED SOX.
Their staff is absolutely good enough to get hot and win a World Series. Their bullpen isn't though, so I'm hoping they address that at the deadline.
Lester and Doubront need more time with some other club preferably in the National league.
We need Buckkolz back and another ace pitcher ( how about Cliff Lee) to go along with him and Lackey.
